Is it just me, or have you noticed that it’s a bit quiet around here of late?
Have we run out of stuff to talk about?
Feel free to talk about anything here…

We had a fairly new poster called ElderlyPerson who started several interesting threads that he often attached videos or music to and they always attracted a good response. Unfortunately, he was spoken to rather unkindly and hasn't posted since.

EP has just posted on a Chat thread.

Talking of nail varnish( platypus second poster on this thread ) .......yes I know am way behind ? but does anyone remember the clear nail varnish you could buy with just a tint of pink. I loved it because it really made my nails look good. Anyway can you still buy it or something similar as I’ve looked everywhere without success.

I am on of those guilty of posting a lot about politics/EU/Brexit Mawbe because it is a subject that concerns me, I like to chat, discuss, argue the toss about it with people, maybe learn a bit as I go along, and I do not plan on stopping doing so because a few people find it a bit tedious. I find the games threads tedious; I therefore don't go on there. I certainly don't go on them to tell others they keep going on about the same thing. That would be rude, surely? I loved the film names thread and laughed out loud at a lot of them.

FannyCornforth Mon 09-Aug-21 19:10:07

Yes -the film thread is great!
I love Miaow Voyager!

This forum is so passive aggressive. If anyone has any problem with me or my posts, please tell me. I'm a big girl, I can take it. smile

I sometimes think I'm in an internet version of an episode of King Gary

Fennel Mon 09-Aug-21 19:30:04

The first thread I read on Gransnet that really got people going was about how often you wash your teatowels and dishcloths. And why.
And does your husband leave them scrunched up on the work top instead of hanging them to dry.
It got quite heated.

annodomini Mon 09-Aug-21 19:56:16

Fennel, I wonder if that was the thread in which I wrote a spoof account of my hygienic precautions with teatowels etc. It got no responses, so perhaps some thought I was being serious.

Namsnanny Mon 09-Aug-21 20:09:09

I just think everybody sounds jaded, perhaps afraid to be shot down in flames by those who regard themselves as more knowledgeable or better-educated than others. Why bother?

Not much discussion, too much preaching from the soap box.

Sometimes I'm looking for lighthearted subjects and other times I hope to learn from others contributions.
Being berated? Not so much.

Chewbacca Mon 09-Aug-21 20:32:22

I'm really pleased to hear that Calendagirl; thanks for letting me know. smile

GillT57 Mon 09-Aug-21 20:36:38

mawbe sorry for the 'rude' comment. I just get irritated when people (not necessarily yourself) come onto a political discussion and make sneery remarks about the same old people talking about the same subject.

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 20:41:00

No probs Gill - I would not dream of venturing such a comment in a political discussion or on a News and Politics thread!

It was VERY quiet and boring on here a few months ago. It seemed to have livened up a few weeks ago but I agree, we're flagging again.

I think the problem is, after a while, we've all said our piece on the things important to us, and anything after that is just repetition. I can't be bothered to argue with the same people about the same things.

Galaxy Mon 09-Aug-21 20:42:50

Now I need to watch King Gary so I can find out what that means smile

It does this, Gagajo, it goes along in peaks and troughs.

Just when we might think it's all very boring, off it goes again just like a rollercoaster and we all have to hang on to our hats!

Tena Lady, anyone?

Fennel Mon 09-Aug-21 20:53:29

annodomini could well be.
I felt like that about the subject too.
I wonder if attitudes have changed since then? About 7 years ago.

Blossoming Mon 09-Aug-21 20:59:19

I don’t understand all these arcane references to ‘shooting down in flames’. I feel like there is a whole secret Gransnet underground from which I am excluded. Though to be honest I don’t want to be included in anything like that! Whispering in the back of the classroom never ends well.

GagaJo Mon 09-Aug-21 22:32:35

There is definitely a pack mentality on here and there are posters they don't like and try to drive away. God knows why. The POINT of online forums is that it's a free for all.

I'm not bothered about getting picked on, although it's been aimed at me in the past. My exceptionally poor memory comes in handy at times. I can't remember who said what, when.
