I do feel sometimes there is an element of competition in some threads. The recent one of deep cleaning seemed to degenerate into a competitive cleaning thread.

Sort of, 'I do not need deep cleaning I wash every wall and ceiling in my house every week and scrub the floors every day.'

LOL MOnica. There was sausage competitive on here once. Everyone claiming their 'good butcher's sausages' were higher in meat content than each others.

I did snigger about it. Bl**dy sausages.

Gagajo I’m with you on the memory thing! I’d have to take notes . I know I’m more sensitive to criticism sometimes, and tend to keep away from forums then.

You should try MN for competitive dieting, its quite scary sometimes. Oh and competitive food budgeting, from one extreme to another.

Someone accused me of stalking them on here once and responding to everything they said. In my dreams only would I have that level of concentration!

Competitive ailments are another weird thing. Why would you want to be more ill than anybody else?

An OP posted cryptically i said tell us who the relative is we are all supporting you another poster said it was none of my business and i had no right to ask. I wasn't being demanding just supportive. I don't know why somebody posts anonymously on an internet forum then says they don't want people to see it - anyway the thread was removed after i invested 2 teabreaks in it.

I enjoy some of the political discussions because not many people want to talk politics in RL. And if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Now and again i have felt mildly stalked and jumped on but it could ve paranoia or hormones or the way i write something which is read differently to what i intended.

Anyway Prince Andrew has had his business raised again to give us something to churn over.

I was just thinking when i got up this morning (4.20) it was pitch black still and that felt a bit daunting. I always feel like we wait for August for summer because of the school hols but really it is the dieing days of Summer and can feel really sad. Not that i like the heat but we have the depths to battle through again before we can get to the spring. And probably because of ageing years seem to come and go quicker.

Sometimes a thread is nice for a natter without having to be in a room etc. Us grannys should be able to make our forum whatever we want and there is room for everyone.

On another local forum - there's a definite pattern to things. It runs down and becomes sparse and somewhat boring.

Next (predictably, eventually) somebody posts the 'Isn't it quiet? Where is everyone?'

Then - a massive row, extreme spitefulness and busy activity with much posting resumes. It's the same every time!

one poster maybe analyses things in a bigger way but they are quite enttiled to do that

another seems to think it is directed at them and wham the spitefulness starts

i had a glimpse of the deleted post and it was something about some posters names being red rags to bulls so there must be history involved

I compare gransnet to a shopping mall. I wander around different areas, try a few things on. Maybe linger over which article buy then change my mind. Wander into a coffee shop and stay for a while if I like it. Going for lunch I will stay longer, and linger over the cake and coffee if the place is interesting and welcoming. If one place gets too noisy, I just move on thinknthat I'll try somewhere different tomorrow

Gawd luvaduck I’ve never seen so many removed posts in one thread. Can’t imagine what they would have said, it’s not that controversial a subject! I have only come across one poster on here that I thought was foul and he/she or it seems to have gone. Good. Those on now I often disagree with but that is what makes it interesting.

I am imagine it's an acquired taste but I laughed like a drain

But I wondered what people thought about many universities refusing to return to normal lectures and tutorials? I’m horrified and bemused as to what possible reason there could be as students are otherwise free to mix ??

Lucca, I think it's terrible. My son will have had two vaccinations by the end of next week and he has had covid. He coped ok the first year (and he spent most of his time ^at university^) but I think the lack of encouragement or reassurance from tutors and lecturers takes it toll on them. When he came back home he was convinced he had failed the first year and he kept saying 'but I haven't seen anyone to speak to etc'

He spoke to his housemates obviously, he meant people who lead his course. The other thing is, he doesn't know anyone on his course!

Btw he passed with very good marks, thankfully
