Good Morning Wednesday 11th August 2021

A very good morning from a bright and sunny ?Northampton; having trouble writing this with a cat on my lap having her morning cuddle.
Washing is in the machine and it looks a good drying day.

Took a tumble yesterday on our health walk, tripped over on an uneven footpath, and fell flat on my face. Think I shall have a lovely bruised nose, and I think I have bruised ribs. Thankfully my glasses escaped without a scratch, which is more than I can say about my dignity(!), and I was more concerned about the blood and mud on my nice t shirt and jeans! My friend brought me home, where I stripped off, had a shower and put my clothes to soak in cold water. Managed to get all the stains out. Took it easy for the rest of the day and dosed up with ibuprofen.

This afternoon my friend will pick me up to go to our Wednesday afternoon activity/chat club, then afterwards we are going round a few kitchen showrooms, as she has decided she needs a new kitchen.

Must get tonight's dinner (Bolognese) out of the freezer, so very little cooking for me tonight. And must remember to update the Sainsbury's order for tomorrow.

I am late today ! Still slobbing in bed with a cuppa ( made by me for both of us - DH could sleep for Britain )
DS took me on a guided tour last night to the football field where I am collecting DGS this afternoon. He knows I am perfectly capable of not being able to find it from verbal instructions. My lack of geography skills is a family joke. When I remarked "What would I do without you ?" His response was
"Lots of very silly things "

You are rightMarydoll that it is so hard to try and remember to mention all posters in a message but that doesn't mean they are forgotten.

Have to take my cat to the vet later. He has an ongoing mouth problem that he has had from the time we got him ( rescued cat ) but the surgery is insisting that I bring him in and won't prescribe the usual meds without seeing him even though it's only a couple of months since I took him. Could have done without that trip.
The " crazy, homeless Princess" is having a couple of sleepovers at her other grandparents'. I can imagine the traveling outfit ! Sometimes it includes long lacy gloves that came free with a comic !
Oh to be six years old and totally confident in your impeccable taste .

Good morning from a bright sunny Durham. An odd day for me - I’ve no transport as my car’s in for a timing belt (??). It’s a big job, apparently. Probably a bit of housework mixed with a bit of gardening - no excuse not to today.

Good morning from the Scottish Borders. Dry outside for a change. It turned out lovely yesterday but I was mostly hunched over the computer or on the phone (waiting in queues) to try to track down, unsuccessfully, the title deeds of my house. That saga continues

Yarn group today which is always nice and I had lovely news about my DGS in NZ who has won another writing competition. He just loves writing stories.

Sounds like your Dollie has a strong personality Marydoll, managing Papa the way she does. I was pleased to hear that that tiny baby has survived the operation.

Sorry about poor OldDudders back, Ash I presume he has seen a chiropractor? Good luck at the dentist.

Good morning from the Scottish Borders. Rain forecast but currently dry. I hope all well and people with worries find some calm. I often post on here things I am going to do later in the day. And I often achieve none of them. So I will write what I have done so far.
Today I have dusted a few bookcases, sorted out some papers for recycling and made the rooms I go in a little less scruffy. Plants have been watered. Take care everyone

Hope OldUdders back makes rapid progress. Lovely news about your little GD coming home MaryDoll. GrannySomerset I must have missed something, you must be caring for someone, but I do wish you an improvement in the amounts of washing!

Yesterday we had the air con fitters in. This necessitated clearing a way through for them in the loft, which has a lot of memories up there, and easy to get sidetracked. After a while DH saw something moving in the gloom in the corner. Fortunately not a rat, but turned out to be one of our Siamese cats, Bruce, who had climbed the ladder whilst we were otherwise occupied. Trying to chase him out frightened him, and by the time DH caught him the tail was bushed in fear. I attempted to descend the ladder with furiously yowling and wriggling cat, being thoroughly sworn at for my trouble (by cat, not DH, though he wasn't in the best of tempers by now either!) Several scratches to my arms later said cat joined his housemate who proceeded to sniff him all over to find out what he had been up to. I now raise my hat to all firemen, not only burning buildings, but obstreperous cats also in the job description!

In the afternoon my name was shouted, which always worries me when workmen in the house, always bad news I find. However it was to tell me that Bruce had been seen walking across next door neighbour's building site by neighbour. (They are house cats, not safe to let them out). Set out to try and capture Mr Bushy Tail, excited and frightened in equal measures by his escape. Eventually cornered him halfway down the road. Attempting to open the front door with a key whilst wrestling a howling banshee is not an easy achievement. This is the exhausted miscreant watching dolphins on TV, whilst his pal looks at us saying 'it wasn't me, I am a good boy!'

I am hoping for a slightly less exciting day today, my thoughts with those with worries and struggles.

Good Morning everyone from the hot, blue South. 31 degrees yesterday and hotter forecast for the next 3 weeks.

Not much of a ‘health walk’ for you Blue and sounds as if, in the circumstances, you were quite lucky - no broken glasses against face, no teeth missing, no broken bones. Awful to fall down like that and always - like small children - we fall on our faces. ?‍♀️ Do hope you feel lots better today and don’t suffer any more ill effects. ?

Hope your day improves very quickly, GrannyS , and that your garage promptly deals with your disappointments, corner. Alizarin wow! I’m happiest at seeing NO faces and a distant view of the excitement way out over the sea! To me, they’re beyond clever ….. but too scary!

Do hope that young man is soon out of pain, Ash and that he’s careful with the Tramadol! Moving reluctant animals can be fraught with problems. Takes me back to some conversations with my Woolly Wardrobes - a bunch of giddy sheep who, no matter the careful instructions and a pep talk from yours truly beforehand, would get so excited skipping and jumping between fields, that strong words and my version of push me, pull you would be involved with at least one of them! And I always came off worst, although I know they really loved me! ?

If you like travel programmes with a difference, someone has already commended what I think maybe is called ‘Write Around the World?’. It’s on BBC4 telly and there are 3 marvellous programmes with Richard E Grant travelling to various parts of Italy, France and Spain to places made famous by books and authors. Wonderful scenery, very interesting background detail and the gentle voice of a presenter who can both read and speak in a way that didn’t have me reaching for the Off button. Well, in our house that’s a change!?
I thought of this today because of his Travels with a Donkey reference filmed in the Cévennes….very amusing and shows just how determined donkeys can be!

Good morning. Overcast but warm here in East Yorkshire today.
A quick check in as I have dgs here today. He’s currently playing with his cars in the bathroom sink ... as they do! We are awaiting Granddads return from the gym and a work call and then we will go off to a nice play area the other side of town.

We read Travels with a Donkey in the second form at secondary school and the delightful Richard E Grant programme has sent me to dig it out to read again. You are quite right, Grandmafrench, the whole programme was a delight - and we only watched it from inertia as there was nothing else we fancied. One of those delightful surprises more usually afforded by Radio 4.

I'm still sorting my laptop after one meddling GS had a go at it on Monday. Somehow he'd let a Malware thingamebob in which took over from Google Chrome and made all passwords invalid!!, so it's a slow process getting it back in order. We shall pick him up tomorrow after a school club.

Good morning from a sunny Essex by the sea. I'm a bit late this morning as I went to Lidl early.

DH is outside rubbing down two benches in our communal garden. He is going to re stain them and give them a new lease of life..

DD1 is on her way to visit DD2. They haven't seen each other for over a year so there will be a lot of catching up. My five granddaughters will have a lot of fun together over the next few days. I am travelling to spend the day with them tomorrow, I just hope the M25 plays ball.

Time to take DH a cup of coffee. Have a lovely Wednesday everyone xx

BlueSapphire I did that last year. Had my hands in my pockets and tripped over a tree stump. Happened so quickly that I didn't even have time to use my hands to save myself. I was lucky , though , in that only my face got the brunt ( and my pride ) but the scratches and bruises cleared up fairly quickly and I wore my mask EVERYWHERE ! I hope you recover quickly
Grandmafrench I like the sound of the travel talks and will have a look. Have been asked to collect DG at 3.15 so if I don't post tomorrow I'm still driving around Cheshire !

Good morning everyone. It’s a sunny start to the day here in Portugal and I had a very good night’s sleep with the bed to myself as DH had to be away last night. I still slept in my usual position which seems to be hanging on to the edge of the bed, despite telling my brain that I could move over if I wanted to without encountering one of DH’s bony elbows

DH has had to visit a hospital up in Evora for an early morning appointment and we though it better for him to stay up there overnight rather than make the drive in the early hours of the morning.

Ashcombe and everyone, I’m pleased to say that all wildfires in our municipality have been extinguished now although the county remains on high alert.
I’m sorry to see that Olddudders has injured his back, I’m allergic to Tramadol myself and always know when DH has taken it as he is not quite himself when he has. However it is an excellent pain killer for those who can take it and I really hope that your DH can. Our spines are so vulnerable for such an essential part of the anatomy.

We watched “Hello Dolly” the other afternoon Marydoll and I thought of you meeting up with your little Dollie, especially when they were singing the title song so joyously and Barbara Streisand sporting glorious auburn hair (a wig?) for the film. I don’t know how I’ve missed seeing it before.
How amazing and wonderful that such a tiny baby can have such vital surgery and be home again so quickly.

I finished an interesting book about three young Amish women last night and found it gave me an insight into the Amish way of life and the amazing world of quilting, which while it’s definitely beyond my sewing abilities is fascinating. I wondered if any of your quilts have hidden meanings grandMattie.

I hope to catch up on the rest of this morning’s news about the day leisurely through out my “empty” day. I’ve had three phone calls from DH already!

Good morning, Mick and everyone from grey but bright Carlisle.
Yesterday I woke from a long night's sleep feeling very tired and spent the morning feeling like I was wading through treacle. It was the excuse for an extra cup of coffee and in the afternoon I felt able to go for a stroll in the local country park. So far I'd not been there which is a shame because it's a lovely place. The lake in the middle was full of mallards and moorhens plus a pair of swans with 7 well grown cygnets. Also spotted, a large plump rat which scurried across my path. They're everywhere but you just don't like to think about them. There were plenty of folk out and about enjoying the brilliant sunshine which had succeeded the rather grey start to the day.
Today, the ironing has been done and I rewarded myself by finishing a book. Although there is a bottle of linseed oil out reminding me to get on and apply it to my oak dining table. Well, it won't be before lunch!
I hope all the invalids and poorly are progressing well and we all have the best possible day.

Good Morning from the East Neuk of Fife, a bit overcast today but I can still see over the Forth towards Edinburgh and East Lothian. There are a couple of oil rigs parked out in the river as well as a few small boats and of course the cruise liners. Enjoy today.
