Phoenix: An updated Thread.

To have a friend like that is the greatest treasure of all

Completely agree with this; and to get a friend that sticks with you, through thick and thin, right to the end, means that Phoenix must have been as good a friend to others as the friends she has around her now.

Our dear friend Phoenix slipped away peacefully this morning with her husband and closest friend, Hollie by her side.

She was a unique person who touched many of our lives and would surely have approved of these words by Joyce Grenfell -




“If I should go before the rest of you
Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone,
Nor when I'm gone speak in a Sunday voice
But be the usual selves that I have known.
Weep if you must,
Parting is hell,

My heart is breaking. It was a privilege to be in Team Phoenix and to share her journey.

We laughed, we cried, we ranted, offered advice on wigs, but most of all we comforted and supported each other.

All those months ago, for those who remember, when some of us were consigned to the “doghouse”, a group of friends formed a very special bond as a result- who would have thought that good could have come out of such malicious intentions - but as a result we have been able to grow closer as friends, to share with and support each other through joy and sadness . And enjoy Rachel’s quirky sense of humour at first hand. Marydoll mentions wig choosing - oh yes, there were laughs as well.
Phoenix appeared on Radio 4’s “You and Yours” just a few weeks ago talking about coping with major events in one’s life. She was quite upfront about her illness and what shone through impressing the presenter and I am sure all who heard her, was her firm conviction that it’s “not the hand you are dealt, but how you play the cards”.

Yes, all those who “knew” her on GN will mourn her passing and miss her input, and those who got to know her personally, all the more so.”
