Just started a thread about this, could not post it and when I went back after refreshing it had just disappeared! So let’s try again.… A few months ago I moved my bedroom downstairs so that my son and his girlfriend could have my bedroom and use their bedroom as a lounge. I invested in some French doors and 1/2 is just a window with a skylight opening and the other half is an opening door, I am a bit concerned that the spiders might find it a bit easier to get to me now that I am downstairs so I have bought some peppermint oil That is mixed with water and liberally sprayed around the curtains, I have also put some oil on a piece of cotton wool and rub that round the frame of the window. I have had encounters with spiders in the past, once felt what I thought was a moth on my face, just nodding off and brushed it off and in the morning woke up to find a big spider about 3 inches from my face, also a blockage in my shower which I removed, being very shortsighted did not realise until I got out and looked in the sink where I had thrown it that it was again a big spider! Also I now never get into my bed since on getting into bed one night turning back the duvet there was a bloody great spider galloping up the bed and disappearing down the back of the headboard so now check pillows and duvet. As it is getting cooler I am sure they will be planning their route into my bedroom…??‍♀️??‍♀️?

No, the radiator is set very close to the wall.
I have sprayed where I think it is, and am hoping it will surrender, eventually. (And shrink, hopefully!)

I think I’ve posted this up thread but can’t remember and can’t be bothered to look but I wonder how many spiders are lurking up there!!!…????And to be honest as long as they stay up there and not in my room that will be fine..?

My son-in-law has recently been bitten on the face by a spider! ?
It’s really painful for the poor lad so goodness knows what type of spider it was to elicit such a reaction, but one side of his face is swollen so badly that he looks like Quasimodo and there’s so much heat in it that my daughter got really worried. The doctor initially gave him an antihistamine, but that was ineffective so he’s now been prescribed antibiotics.

I never go to bed now without checking under the pillows (but not actually inside the pillowcase)And lifting up the “top and bottom of the duvet just to check…?????

Shinamae
Me too, plus shaking out all my clothes, looking down the back of the headboard, and under the bed.

Shinamae Thu 23-Sept-21 07:36:53

Luckily I have a divan bed and my headboard is tight against the wall!!…..? but I will start shaking out my clothes starting when I get dressed this morning…

I'm not scared of them - so became, by default, the work spider catcher, often seen trotting outside to release them (pretty sure they just came straight back in).

I was even interrupted, when teaching a class, to relocate one.

Wasps are a different matter, though. I'm pretty scared of them, especially indoors, so I'd have to send for the caretaker!

Always do this too Shinamae but have now added a quick look behind curtains and scan the walls and ceiling. Why are there so many spider emojis on here? ?

Shinamae Thu 23-Sept-21 20:52:46

I do spray the inside of the curtain that faces the skylight with a mixture of water and peppermint oil hoping that will keep the little blighters out…??????? nothing wrong with a spider emoji or 7!! ??? By the way my bedroom is downstairs in my former dining room…

Shinamae Thu 23-Sept-21 20:53:49

Mind you if I was a spider and it was freezing cold outside I would just hold my breath and get in the window never mind the peppermint oil…?

SueDonim Thu 23-Sept-21 21:18:55

Oh Grannyactivist! That confirms my claim that spiders are the devil’s horsemen. I hope your sil feels better soon.

Shinamae Thu 23-Sept-21 22:54:29

Just about to go to bed and I noticed this little bugger on the bedroom ceiling, got a cup to catch him, thought I had him but he was doing some sort of acrobatics on his thread and I think he’s dropped onto the bed and I can’t find him!!..?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️

SueDonim Thu 23-Sept-21 23:46:07

Shinamae Fri 24-Sept-21 08:51:04

No,l stayed!! ??? mind you it was quite small, if it had been one of the big buggers I would probably of slept on the couch

Sweetpeasue Fri 24-Sept-21 17:59:52

Can't believe I haven't seen any yet.
(touching wood) Got my bristle spider catcher at the ready in case DH is out.

Burning the house down is also an option, Shinamae! grin

Don't throw the spider out with the bathwater! ?

Millie22 Sat 25-Sept-21 16:17:50

Has anybody mentioned putting conkers in the corner of the room or spraying white vinegar. I use white vinegar for almost everything. Apologies if this has already been suggested. I have had to deal with 9 wasps today already so getting a bit fed up with them but no spiders ...yet.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Sept-21 16:58:35

I haven't found that cookers work.
I just ended up with a flat full of conkers and spiders.

Millie22 Sat 25-Sept-21 17:11:00

I'm having to laugh that you put cookers ?

MissAdventure Sat 25-Sept-21 17:12:09

grin
Oh, I've just seen that!
It's heavy work, heaving cookers around.

SueDonim Sat 25-Sept-21 20:14:48

Electric or gas cooker - which works best? grin
