Good Morning August Bank Holiday Monday 30th August 2021

Good morning from a drizzly NE. I’m on my last day of my holidays back to work tomorrow and could do with another few days off! Am I getting old? ? will make the most of it late breakfast and some ironing then a little bit of gardening and a look at the telly. Hope everyone is keeping spirits up and hugs to those under the weather.

It is so dull here in the East that our tomatoes are ripening very slowly Laura, even in the greenhouse. There is a huge crop but they are all green. Chutney if they don’t get a move on!

Good morning from a very grey Essex by the sea, what a miserable looking day !!!!!

DH has gone to his boat for a few hours, I've done a pile of ironing and put a load in the washing machine.

I may give the bathrooms a clean or I may not.

No other plans today, I will probably read my latest book, Rabbit Hole by Mark Billingham. I usually like his books but I'm not really getting into this one.

Good morning, Mick and all from cool grey Carlisle. I'm back wearing a sweater and the CH kicked in this morning even though it's not set high. There don't seem to be many days in the year when I can mooch about in a t-shirt or blouse and no woolly.
Yesterday I went up to Lanercost where the Abbey was hosting an exhibition of local artists. Such an array of talent! It's a good job I'm not rich or I would have come home with a car full of beautiful things. Though it's bad enough here at the moment as I've emptied my 2 large boxes of ornaments and am puzzling over where to put some of them. A few I feel I could part with but it seems the charity shops don't want them.
In spite of this, I did come away from the exhibition with one item, a beautiful painted box for jewellery. I justified it by telling myself it looked so much nicer than the plastic ex-chocolate box some of my earrings currently reside in! But actually I was keen to buy from these particular artists as decades ago I bought another painted box of theirs when they lived in our area. The husband had on display an exquisitely hand carved totem pole showing scenes from Whitehaven history. Not for sale...it should really end up in the local Museum.
As for today, it's the usual morning of laundry and housework followed by an afternoon of reading and maybe a little gentle gardening...the sun is just beginning to shine here.
Scentia, that all sounds very unpleasant, do pace yourself carefully, it's frustrating but you will probably recover faster.

Good morning all, dull damp and cloudy here too- but off to see the classic car exhibition for and hour or so on the cliff top-with a picnic and wearing our macs-just in case of a deluge -probably shall have to have the picnic in the car -no not a classic car-sadly.
Still its a bank holiday and we shall enjoy the change of scenery.

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers Lancashire coast. A quiet day today apart from looking at a new song for next folk club meeting. Yesterday after dropping my friend off, I popped into Home and Bargains, one of those shops which tells you what you want rather than what you need as someone said. I didn’t need anything but hairspray and came out with realistic fake plants and a small outdoor rug for the patio. Then I got a message to say an old friends husband had died so picked up some flowers from the garage as out and about and popped round to have a little chat without going in.
It was a pleasant surprise to find a card and chocolates in the porch last night from my neighbours for feeding their cats whilst they were away.
I posted a few postcards from my last day trip to family and old friends. I’m known as the postcard queen as I really enjoy sending them, nice way to keep in touch and I prefer it to the telephone.
I’m a regular visitor to our local joke shop and I put a piece of fake joke poo in my friend’s bedroom by the wardrobe (I have a cat myself) but he didn’t notice or knowing I am a prankster cottoned on?.

Good morning all from a cooler Glasgow where the sky is brightening up, no rain forecast so fingers crossed my washing dries and I don’t have to load it on the pulley. Still having to water the garden though as we haven’t had rain for days. Hope I haven’t jinxed it. ?

Disappointing Grand Prix yesterday in Belgium which was literally a wash out with constant heavy rain and the race was called off. I’m sure that must be a first.

Laura, you can freeze the damsons whole, and have them stewed in the winter - a lovely taste of summer. And what a shame you don't make the jam; it's so eay (I never remove the stones - people pick them out later!)

Morning everyone, weather grey here and it rained overnight which was not forecast ( not on my app anyway). Quiet day for me, enjoyed Vigil on tv last night and am looking forward to episode two tonight, plus US open tennis starts today, so will look in on

Yes, I'm fine - still coughing - thank you for your good wishes. Hope you are feeling a bit better Scentia. Been so busy this am, sorry I'm late. Have been catching up on dish-washing, after my dishwasher conked out yesterday. Got a fair bit more to do.
Also had an hour on the phone to my school friend and also my sister. Sadly I can't rush getting a new washer 'cause can't let someone in the house when I have COVID. Wouldn't want that on my conscience. I've also been looking at getting new landline phones, BT seems to be the favourite, I assume they will work with virginmedia?

Good morning Mick, Annie and all, from a dull and greyish bit of Berks.
I have had a really lazy morning, nothing new there then.

I have actually now finished knitting the cardigan that I was slaving over. Now just the worst bit, sewing up. I bought buttons for it on Saturday, and they were £1.50 each, ouch!

The car has also been taxed this morning and next on the list is insuring it. Such a lot of looking through comparison sites.
Harrigran, sorry to hear that you are under the weather. Have a restful day, and get better soonest.

I am getting envious of all the talk of damsons, one of my favourites, and damson jam is just delicious. When I was working, one of the chaps used to bring damsons from his garden and sell them for a donation to charity.

Feeling a bit down this morning. My dear husband died 5 months ago and sometimes I feel my reason for living has gone. I see friends and family regularly but feel not the same support now. There has been some lovely weather here this summer. Perhaps it’s the thought of colder days ahead that’s depressing me. We were married for 56 years and I know I should be grateful for that.

Macgran, my sympathies. Now friends and family have helped you through the immediate trauma, I guess it’s normal for them to leave you to yourself more. But 5 months is nothing as I know and it’s very hard… no one to bounce opinions off and have a laugh with. Honestly, I felt like lying on the floor and screaming some days! The pain fades and you learn to live a new sort of life in time but I still wish mine with me after 5 years. I wish you all the best, look after yourself.

Macgran I am sorry you are sad. My DH died 9 months ago and like you we were married a long time. 51 years.
I find this forum therapeutic. I walk regularly too and keep busy. There are bad days - and nights.
