Flattered or annoyed

I saw a lady today in the street and really admired the jacket she was wearing. I wanted to tell her so and maybe ask where she’d bought it but of course I did no such thing. Have you ever felt like doing something similar, or has anyone ever approached you and said how much they like what you’re wearing. Would you be flattered or annoyed?

I would be pleased but I would not say anything like that to someone I didn't know. I thought it though.

I have a pair of shoes that have resulted in so many comments!
In one day at at Trentham Village outlet 4 people asked me where I got them!!
I am happy to oblige with the information!
They are from Deichmann and cost around £25.

Someone complimented me a few weeks ago, telling me how much they liked a top I was wearing.
Likewise, during a recent hospital visit - a nurse said "ooh, you smell lovely, what perfume is that?"
Going through rather a rough patch, it really made me feel better and I wasn't offended in the least!

Always will compliment and happy to receive one too.
Never ask about prices though.

There are a range of bags I like and I once saw a lady in the city centre with a particularly unusual design. We were both stood waiting at a zebra crossing so I asked her. Sadly she’d bought it in America ?

I do that, many times. Sometimes, remember, it's the only compliment people receive, for that month... and you can see their face light up. I always say thank you, if someone says I look good, even if I'm under the weather. Also, some people have to muster up courage to talk to someone, maybe they need to speak to a human... so it's nice to thank them.

If someone asks me about my clothes (not often ;-) ) I used to be a bit irritated, but ok with that now.

I think if someone stopped specifically to say something I’d be flattered. This has happened a few times normally it’s leather boots, another time I was trying on some fluffy shoes in a shop and I was approached by husband of woman in the shop saying “you can walk around my house anytime in those” ?? I found that really funny, I decided though not to buy the shoes

I have been the recipient of kind remarks and comments on many an occasion. It’s lovely to have someone say something kind and positive and I have always thanked those folk that have commented.

I asked the girl on the car park booth where she got her bag yesterday - five years ago at TK Maxx! Pointless asking older people normally!

Madwoman11 Wed 01-Sept-21 10:43:23

I'm always happy to give a compliment.

I complimented the supermarket delivery guy on his purple hair.

He looked aghast, and was probably thinking "If this old lady likes it, I'm dyeing it a different colour tomorrow!"

flattered ? nah! complimented yes! why not! come on, life is drear enough without genuine pleasure passed on

I do it all the time, if I see something being worn on someone, they have always been flattered and pleased with the compliment, I’ve had things said to me too, there’s no way I would feel annoyed, people have said oh you’ve made my day! Nothing wrong with complimenting.

Does anyone remember a boutique called Snob?
Back in about 1981 I was walking down the street and a woman rushed up to me to say how much she liked my trousers. I was in a bit of a rush so I absentmindedly just turned and said “Snob”
Unsurprisingly she looked very taken aback so I quickly added “it’s a shop”

I sat down at an outside table of a cafe a few weeks ago and the lady on next table lent over and said her and her friend lived the way I was dressed. She was surprised when I said most was bought on Ebay for a few pounds. Yes I have commented on clothes a person was wearing in the past. It brings a smile ?

Who doesn’t want to think they’ve been admired for their ‘good taste’. Especially on a day when I don’t feel on top form it’s a real boost if someone says I look nice. I make a point of complimenting my family and friends .. it costs nothing and enriches all our lives.

Missismac Wed 01-Sept-21 10:50:34

I would definitely take it as a compliment and be delighted.

Candelle Wed 01-Sept-21 10:50:51

Mr C sometimes can't help himself and compliments complete (usually female) strangers, most often if they have wacky coloured hair or a really smart outfit.

He means well and his comments are well received but I cringe!

glammanana Wed 01-Sept-21 10:52:27

I will always comment on a nice dress/shoes and will accept compliments & give back it boosts your day when someone says something complimentary about what you are wearing

christine96777 Wed 01-Sept-21 10:52:39

I think most people would be delighted with the compliment, but if someone approached me in public and said I didn't suit something, I would be offended by that, yet its just the flipside of the coin

I've often told people I liked what they were wearing and each time they've said where it was from without me asking.

Sheilasue Wed 01-Sept-21 10:56:45

Someone remarked on my hair a few years back, but I had just come from the hairdresser ??

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 01-Sept-21 10:57:50

Not something I was wearing, but outfits I had made for my daughters, then 2 & 4. They were beige dresses with blue roses on them. I made little denim waistcoats which were laced up with metal eyelets, and denim sun bonnets, have to admit they did look stunning. Wherever we went there were ladies who asked me where I got them from - I would have made a fortune if I'd taken orders

Alioop Wed 01-Sept-21 11:03:28

It's nice to get compliments given to you. I get a lot about my red hair, although sometimes they ask if it is my real colour, yes it is. The grey's are still staying at bay for the time being.
I saw a lady one day in a lovely midi floral dress, it was beautiful, but as I didn't know her I wouldn't of asked her where she got it from. I came home and Googled and found it in M&S and now I have one hanging in my wardrobe smile
