Loved most of the 70s music but preferred Soul Music and Reggae..just think ABBA has been done and done...all about the Money Money Money?

Not a fan at all.

My partner who is a musician, but not a fan, always comments their songs are very well written.

It does seem that Abba are now cashing in because of the popularity of the Mama Mia films.

They are releasing a new album soon. The single from it was on the radio yesterday. It was a bit of a dirge IMHO.

You could hear the age in their voices - IYKWIM. Not every singer can retain their voice into old age, with the possible exception of Tom Jones.

There is also a concert tour using holograms, which is a novelty but the same as live performers.

I think it was all on the One Show last night.

Surely they don't need the money!

I have always liked Abba and will be interested to hear their latest stuff

Blossoming Fri 03-Sept-21 11:39:14

I love ABBA. Nothing wrong with making money from your talent.

greenlady102 Fri 03-Sept-21 11:40:24

I was at a festival a few years ago and 10cc was the headline act. They did Donna a cappella and their voices are still amazing

silverlining48 Fri 03-Sept-21 11:40:41

Oh I love ABBA. Their music is good and it always cheers me up, though Slipping through my Fingers brings a tear.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Sept-21 11:53:11

Another ABBA fan here, I know the two films are not the best scripts or acting but I loved the scenery and they have that feel good factor I find myself smiling and singing along (apart from slipping through my fingers which makes me cry)

Grandmadinosaur Fri 03-Sept-21 11:53:57

I love ABBA too and am with you silverlining it always cheers me up and gets me wanting to dance.

Wasn’t a fan of Mamma Mia at all, but I like their music, more so now than when it was popular, my friend and our daughters went to see a tribute act, it was great fun.

..all about the Money Money Money?

Yes, somebody said those exact words on Jeremy Vine this morning. Nonsense, of course.

As of August 2021, ABBA is worth upwards $900million, according to wealth website wealthypersons.com.

They were offered a billion some years ago to do a large world tour and turned it down.

They don't need the money

I love them. I was 15 when they won Eurovision and their songs are the background to my youth.

I was somewhat worried when I read about the films but my worries were unfounded as I loved them.

I'll be getting the album. I'll be going to the hologram tour

Zoejory Fri 03-Sept-21 12:06:57

Oh me too, GrannyGravy13. My wonderful, gorgeous, beloved youngest daughter was moving out and I thought my world was ending when I watched that scene!

What a pity that they feel the need of avatars of their younger selves to present their songs. rather than appearing as they are now.

They never liked doing live concerts. That was one of their things. I don't think they ever did a tour.

Why start now?

Atqui Fri 03-Sept-21 12:15:48

Love them, but don’t temeber slipping through my fingers. Just played it and feel v sad

silverlining48 Fri 03-Sept-21 12:25:01

I first heard slipping through my fingers in the first ABBA film.
Glad it’s not just me who finds it so very sad.
I watched an ABBA tv programme the other week which I really enjoyed and they did do tours in the early days, a very popular one in Australia and elsewhere.
I remember watching the Eurovision in 1974 with friends when they won with Waterloo. They make me smile then and still do.
They don’t need the money and I think they might even be taking a risk doing this, it could flop, but somehow I don’t think it will.

BlueSky Fri 03-Sept-21 12:25:19

Love them. Some of their songs make me cry, ‘The Day Before You Came’, ‘The Winner Takes It All’, etc. The guys used to have Scandinavian good looks but they now look like old professors. Comes to all of us I guess.

NannyJan53 Fri 03-Sept-21 12:57:32

Love ABBA and their music, some really great songs. I think it is a mistake to release an album, they can never really better or even equal their sounds from the 70's and 80's. Better to go out on a high.

The music will live on for a very long time.

MissAdventure Fri 03-Sept-21 13:25:46

They're a bit too happy for me; I tend towards miserable type music.
Their lyrics are very, very clever though. 'The day before you came' is excellent. smile

Redhead56 Fri 03-Sept-21 13:29:47

Couldn't stand them. I liked Soul my favourite of all music is Swing.

nanaK54 Fri 03-Sept-21 13:38:20

Saw this on Twitter, made me laugh grin
'They are rehearsing for the Abba tour, it is really loud, you can hear the drums from Nandos'

Whatdayisit Fri 03-Sept-21 13:46:14

I was an ABBA fan from the age of 7 when I was given a tape by my uncle as I received my brothers old cassette player for xmas but no tapes!
When I receiSuper Trooper album for Xmas 1980 my brother forbid me from playing it and scratched it all over - he was a bit of a bully. Best thing he ever did for me really. I only hope in my old age if I get dementia I don't go back to the time I was an ABBA fan!
ABBA, Take That and Michael Jackson if they come on I have to switch off can't bare any of them.
Nothing against their reunion for them as long as I don't have to hear it.
Both of the ladies were stunning looking in the days when you had to do the best for yourselves natural looks and beauty shone through.

Whatdayisit Fri 03-Sept-21 13:47:11

I did read that The Queen's favourite ever song is Dancing Queen!

Jaffacake2 Fri 03-Sept-21 14:50:20

Dancing queen is my favourite and I will always dance to it regardless of where I am !

seacliff Fri 03-Sept-21 15:08:36

I love Abba, makes me happy. They don't want to perform live apparently, hence the hologram show.. Here's one of their new songs. youtu.be/hWGWFa3jznI
