I apply a great big blob of hand cream before putting on rubber gloves and then wash up or clean using very hot water. I'm not sure if it helps much.
I have hand creams everywhere so I can apply some if my hands start to feel dry, which is quite often....
I use those disposable gloves if I am going to work with red onion, red cabbage (to prevent staining) or raw meat (hygiene). I recently bought plastic ones which are awful. Difficult to get on and don't stretch at all. I won't be making that mistake again. It'll be back to the latex ones next time. I can re-use those several times (e.g. for cleaning the bathroom, not for food).
