I’m not on Facebook

BawBee2 Tue 07-Sept-21 10:14:25

It should be a reminder if needed, that anything you post here can also appear on Facebook and be read by a wider audience.

dragonfly46 Tue 07-Sept-21 10:16:07

There doesn't seem to be much activity there Mick.

BlueBelle Tue 07-Sept-21 10:18:33

It won’t let me view it without logging in to it, and I dont want to be on it on fb

JackyB Tue 07-Sept-21 11:11:36

I refuse to join Facebook, too, on the advice of all three of my DS.

FannyCornforth Tue 07-Sept-21 11:57:19

I don’t trust it either. On other recent threads about FB, it does seem to be losing favour.
I thought that we were in the minority, but I don’t think that we are

I had a really bad experience with FB even though I didn't use it. My family often send me clips from FB so I have joined just so I can open them.

Jackiest Tue 07-Sept-21 12:24:20

It is a page which only the Gransnet admin can post on and their last post seems to be back in April.

Facebook is as good or as bad as the people using it. I am on it but do not post much and only really use it to find out what is going on around me.

Casdon Tue 07-Sept-21 12:44:00

On the Mariella Frostrup programme about the exposure of children to pornography yesterday, Facebook actually came out much better in terms of filtering inappropriate sites/posts than the other social media sites, so it’s not all bad.

Ro60 Tue 07-Sept-21 15:31:05

No thanks. Stopped using FB years ago.

Neen Tue 07-Sept-21 18:13:56

I don't do face book nor would I.
I honestly think it adds to mental health related issues.

Neen Tue 07-Sept-21 18:15:51

BawBee2 really ?

BawBee2 really ?

I don't think it is done at the moment but there is nothing to stop it being done in the future.

Don’t forget the national press.

GN is a business. It’s not your friends/ family private chat.

seacliff Tue 07-Sept-21 18:46:40

I find it very useful if used with care. I use it mainly in my role as a volunteer for a cat charity. Helps with homing, advertising lost/found cats , asking for volunteers etc.

Also very useful for anything to do with local events, finding out what's happening in my area. Local speakers at the library etc. The important thing is to make sure your security settings are extremely secure.

I am always interested to hear what people who don’t use FB think of it. It may shock you to know that anything you write on this site a d the pictures you post can be read, seen and be reposted anywhere. Any posts I put up on on Facebook are only seen by the people I choose.

Definitely.
The best advice I have ever had is ‘don’t compare your inside to others’ outside’
On FB you see a lot of facades

BlueBelle Wed 08-Sept-21 09:50:02

I love fb and use it everyday but don’t want to be on GN on FB
I only have friends I know on my fb page so mainly see nice posts and nothing to get upset about
I do go on some local groups and get some upstarts on there but I like local information so ignore the cleverclogs

Alegrias1 Wed 08-Sept-21 09:50:35

On FB you see a lot of facades

And on GN, where people return as if by magic pretending to be people they aren't? Or make snide, sneering remarks because they are anonymous? Or gang up on people? Or send nasty PMs? Social media is social media, whether it's Facebook, GN, or anything else.

FannyCornforth Wed 08-Sept-21 10:08:50

Too true Alegrias

When I joined GN I realised quite early on that I was going to be spending a lot of time on here, so made a conscious decision to be completely honest, and only speak to people as I would face to face in real life.
I might be naive, but it’s worked for me so far

FannyCornforth Wed 08-Sept-21 10:10:24

In fact, that’s exactly why I don’t do FB. I’ve no interest in creating a false image of myself, and additionally I don’t want to render myself vulnerable by letting people into my private life

I use it but rarely post but I do like to see what friends in far flung places are up to as I can't meet up with them now.

It depends on how you use it and what your privacy settings are.

Callistemon Wed 08-Sept-21 10:33:19

Ps there's nothing at all private about Granset!
