Hello ladies of the Kitchen on a truly beautiful South of France day!

Panache you're a dear soul and absolutely no thanks are necessary. Have you had a really good look at "the lovely lot" (as Soop describes them) in this Kitchen? They are such dear souls and I'm so happy to be here - how can I not offer a kind word (or a lot of blethering,) when problems or sadness arises.

This lot - and you - and the lovely bouncing Tigger that is Cherry, the poetic Izabella from the Shires and lots more I could name, welcomed me and kept me going; kept me sane in Lockdown. I always felt better, calmer, more able to cope with a very scary situation because of how I was treated. I'm forever grateful for that. And so this is how I try to treat everyone else.

So when I refer to you as my hero - hope you'll understand where I'm coming from. Can't call you a heroine, I suspect, since the PC brigade will have put an end to that. But you will forever be the hero who cared and hoped and struggled and worried and loved right until the end. When I recall your fight with the staff at the last hospital over visiting hours and the way you kept finding the strength and just held it all together, I feel truly amazed that one person could overcome such adversity. When I read of Harrigran terrible struggles now, in the face of almost no practical or medical support at all as she cares almost single-handedly for her DH, I do think of you each time she posts on the GM thread. Where people find the hidden strengths when they are almost on their knees, I have no idea, but it happens and it is such an example to us all. So, keep going dear lady. You deserve some happiness in life again and all of us wish that for you - however impossible that seems now. Please keep posting when you feel up to it. Sending you a big hug in the meantime. x

Syn what a carry on! And your DH went for a fitting for a new leg and the person who measured him for it got it all wrong - course she did. What IS the matter with everyone?! In the chaos of your newly adapted home - I expect you think you are living through the Blitz; but how wonderful when it is finally done and you and your DH can settle down and have some peace and a proper life again. Best wishes to you both and good luck with it all as you head for the finish line.

Soop every good wish for that lovely man's rapid recovery. It must have been a frightening experience. Please make him rest until he feels quite normal again. His problems have convinced me that I am having a flu jab and a Covid booster jab, quite separately - with space for recovery in between. A big yellow stripe up my back is enough to encourage me to take it slowly. I shall start with the booster, I think. Fingers crossed.

I am so pleased that you have had no post vaccination problems, Aldom. Not so impressed that you could have been seriously hurt by an idiot on a bike, though. Is there anywhere to walk these days without wheels of some kind approaching from every direction ?

Excellent idea to make separate (wish) lists regarding a holiday destination, Susan. Especially as you shared a couple of possible destinations. Have a brilliant holiday, Doodle. Sticks of rock all round then? We'll all wait patiently.

We didn't return from our lovely lunch until 4pm. 2 years' absence from friends involves a lot of chat and catching up. Such a nice way to pass a Saturday.

Ive just come in from the garden as it’s started to rain, it came on really quickly so caught me out with the washing. anno I’ve also got a couple of maple trees in the garden, they’re beautiful aren’t they? Stunning colours at this time of year

Synonymous you must be pulling your hair out but I do hope everything is wonderful very soon.
Ann I can’t believe it’s a year. Where has that time gone? Where have the last two years gone, come to that? ?
Today I cut the hedge -one of those jobs which has been looming but wasn’t nearly as bad as expected. Tomorrow I may cut the lawn. DGC are here for the night then off to Sunday school. They will all come back for an outing for the pizza oven. It will probably be the last this year.
soop I do hope * MrS* is feeling much better and you both get a good night’s sleep.

Tilly you have just educated me. I looked at your lovely photograph and thought 'but that's not ivy, it's Virginia Creeper'. It's not though, is it. It needs to have 5 leaflets not 3 to be V. Creeper - so what you've photographed is Poison Ivy. Am I right? They are so similar - how many times must I have been fooled in the past.

I wish you were my next door neighbour and I would help out. Actually I would be happy to help out anyone here. Thank you for all the supportive words regarding ddog and my very minor strain/sprain. Much appreciated. My confidence was shot to bits. Ddog firmly back on track. Double toast today to make up for none yesterday. Good night everyone. This is such a good place.

I too feel despondent for harrigran I’d jump any hoops to help them both, frustrating.

Dogs so glad your Ddog is back on track. I had Granddog staying here this week, so enjoyed his company, I know I spoiled him. We got soaked on our woodland walk yesterday, so I dried him with a fluffy towel and finished him off with the hairdryer, he let me!!

I felt really lost without Mya today. It's been 4 months since she's had a day at the doggy creche. Dropped her off and she clung to my side like a small child would on it's first day at nursery. I use a creche run by a lovely couple at their own home. They only take two dogs at a time as they have two of their own. The four dogs spend the whole day together. As I walked away I realised I was more anxious than Mya was. On my return, the owner remarked how much Mya had now bonded to me but was starting to enjoy being around other adults. They've helped me a lot with her training over the two years I had her.

I only visited one garden today but found a fantastic tearoom there. No plants bought but lots of ideas. Those autumn colours are amazing Anno and Tilly. Need to check out that leaf.

Had half an hour before Strictly tonight which was filled with catch up on news here. I'm a notebook scribbler too Nannytopsy. Like tonight, I tend to only get one chance to do a thorough read through and that notebook needs to be handy. I struggle with names Grandmafrench?. Absolutely useless - Pathetic. It would take me half a term to learn the full names of all the children I taught.

Doodle and Susan - MrM had a much better night thank you, except he said he could still hear me snoring breathing heavily, He was on the sofa downstairs again. Our bedroom is on a mezzanine level. Hope you get a restful holiday Doodle.

We’re just back home after babysitting. Early - 4pm till 9pm. Their parents came here into the town centre for drinks and a curry. They like to be home before the looney tunes come out.

You might be wondering about the old fashioned Pyrex dish & lid. I took a photo of it whilst babysitting. I was rootling about in one I’d daughter’s cupboards and found 2 of these at the back. My dear mum must have given them to her years back - probably when they were first setting up their own house. It’s the same Pyrex I used to take to school for ‘Domestic Science’ when I was 14y old. So this little casserole bowl is more than 50y. I had to take a pic because it made me nostalgic remembering times long past ...

This ‘I haven’t got a sweet tooth’ person could just manage just a mini magnum please muse ?
I remember that Pyrex Urms, crumbs, that takes me back, I’m sure my Mums had a blue pattern though?

I’m back home after a whirlwind few days at my daughter’s. The baby is doing well, seems to be feeding nicely and he’s now wakening up a bit, peering round him at this strange world. Big Sister has had her moments(!) but she assured me today that it was because her toy rabbit had had some bad dreams last night and she’d had to be awake to tell him stories and get him back to sleep. ❤️ I think I’ll sleep like a log tonight!

I’m sorry MrSoop has had a bad reaction and I hope he’s improving.

I don’t know the many back stories here, such as Panache and Synonymous but I’m sorry for your troubles, and hope life improves for you all.

I definitely remember those Pyrex dishes Urms I think my mum had a set of 3 different sizes but the same pattern, used for almost everything!

I hope that Mr Soop continues to feel better, and that you both get a good night`s sleep tonight.
