Celebrity Endorsements

Is anyone out there actually influenced to buy anything due to celebrity endorsements?
Personally it has the opposite effect on me. I can’t stand a well known actress who is the face of Lancôme so I would never ever buy the perfume.
Flicking through the Style supplement of The Sunday Times ( or the Pseudsday Times as my late sister used to call it ) the reader is confronted by one sulking celebrity after another, toting an ugly handbag or dressed in a coat more suitable for Widow Twanky and the public are expected to be impressed.
How about you ? Do you buy fashion and accessories because your favourite actor/ celebrity endorses it ?

Clearly the H&S ad didn't work very well...

Sorry everyone, I mentioned Gloria Winkleman in a previous post (about Head & Shoulders shampoo). I should of course, have said CLAUDIA Winkleman. I knew it wasn’t quite right - silly me!

BOZ
Well yes I’ve obviously been influenced by Claudia winkleman/head and shoulders advert.
See my previous post ( can’t work out how to quote previous Comment)

I am not influenced by celebrities, in fact I detest most famous people, as I think they are all over-paid egomaniacs, and when they started telling us to "stay at home" to protect the NHS from their mansions with parks as gardens! What a cheek especially when some people lived in flats with no gardens.

Had a giggle last night watching Johnny Depp flamboyantly playing a guitar with a Wolf in the desert for "Dior Sauvage". It was so OTT I will remember it.

Like many in here I deliberately avoid anything advertised by a celebrity. What I really hate are "celebrity collections " I don't believe for one minute the celeb has sat down with a box of crayons and designed the pattern for bedding or cushions.

Boz Thanks for telling me that was Johnny Depp. I fast forwarded the ad, but I didn’t know who it was.

That’s a great example of how an endorsement can backfire. It’s a risk when a company wants an ‘edgy’ celeb to endorse their product, as they walk a fine line between rebellious and scandalous. Look at Kate Moss who was the face of Rimmel- when she was caught doing drugs with Pete Docherty it was really awkward for them.

Also Jade Goody (perfume) and Kerry Katina (Iceland) fell from grace quite spectacularly, although their image was, erm, rather different from KM’s.
