With drawing from Girl Guides

The world has gone mad.

Quite apart from the issue of the dominatrix Guide leader with dubious connections, and the potential for embarrassment, indignity and coercion from penis-owning girl guides, is the more traditional consequence of girls and boys finding a way to be together overnight without adult supervision. None of this is likely to meet with the approval of very many parents, surely?

My DGD, now 19, joined the Scouts on leaving the Brownies (she thought the Guides were 'too girly). For six years she has been a Cub leader, now fully qualified. I haven't asked her about washing and lavatory facilities at camp, but I'm sure she will have interesting observations to make. She's a fearless character so no doubt will make her opinions known.

As one poster said on MN, everyone is entitled to a private sex life but the fact that MS made their sex life public, by uploading dominatrix photos to Instagram, has made it open for public scrutiny. To also pose for selfies with guns just beggars belief and makes me question the GG safeguarding procedure.

Someone is also pondering on the need for GG leaders to supply barrier methods of contraception on an all-girls residential trip.

Who knew that girls as young as 13 could be supplied with condoms by GG, without their parents knowledge, SueDonim? Gives a whole new meaning to their motto "Be Prepared".

And she's been proven right hasn't she Callistemon. The original ethos of GG has been obliterated by those who have a completely different agenda for what the movement is/was about. I'm hoping that the national press get hold of the story in the coming days.

V3ra, I agree a female teacher should not be watching girls shower. My post was not intended to cause trouble - I was perhaps over sensitive! My mum was also a Guide Captain for many years , prior to that she was a Ranger and I have the certificate she was given when she joined. My mother was born in 1911 so was a Girl Guide in the early years , at a time when girls would not normally be allowed to be under canvas!! She loved it and in later years she enjoyed being a member of the Trefoil Guild. Her love of guiding was passed to me and my sister. If she were here today reading what has happened in the Guide Association she would be horrified. As indeed am I!

Girlguides launch probe into commissioner, 58, who identifies as trans after campaigners uncovered 'disturbing' social media messages and pictures including her dressed as a dominatrix and wielding an assault rifle.

Bus driver Monica Sulley, 58, reportedly became a guiding Commissioner in July this year, overseeing Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
Another snap showed Ms Sulley dressed in a tight fitting black top and taking aim with what appears to be a fake assault rifle with a holstered handgun hanging from her waist.

She was also seen in a third picture posing with a sword and in a Twitter picture showing off her ample cleavage with the caption: 'Boobs, or did you want to see more?'

The female sex are under a barrage unlike anything that has preceded it. We are not to be allowed anything that is just for 'us'. And the saddest aspect is the number of females colluding in this erasure! At least in the misogynistic past while women were 'kept in their place' it was very clear exactly what was a woman. Now we have two classes of women, the ones who must put up, shove up and be quiet/kind and the ones who get to do and say exactly what they want because they have 'lady penises'.

Most importantly, women need a place to call their own. To my mind, this is vital. Sadly a core part of being a woman is the fear for threat of sexual or physical violence from men. this is the sad truth isn't it? Of course some/most men are incredible and would die sooner than make women feel threatened or less than themselves...but subjugating oneself to the fear of men is in our blood.

When I was in the Guides the very essence of its point was that it was a place where girls and women could just be. Without having to make themselves small/strong/available/invisible or any of those other life-limiting things that men have to do when there are men around.

Of course there were always men around on guide camps.
The gentle cocoa-making husbands of leaders, the kindly and ancient farmer who owned the land, but that a person who might need a condom should have access to the young girls sleeping in tents on a Guide camp renders the entire concept worthless and dangerous in my opinion.

Sorry, that should have read "life-limiting things that women have to do when there are men around."

I’m just staggered by this revelation!
Surely now this person will be sacked?How is there a shred of credibility left for somebody in this position, no matter if they are a real woman or a trans woman?
It seems to me ( and many) that organisations are falling over themselves to prove how inclusive they are .....with dubious results.

Presumably a self-identifying transwoman? But of course all transwomen are women aren't they.

It's hard to believe all this crap that women and girls have to put up with, just to accommodate the gender thoughts of a tiny minority.

The problem is that any criticism of someone who says that they are trans is assumed to be phobic, and many organisations fight shy of accusations of transphobia.

As we have seen, however, a number of more enlightened organisations are resigning from Stonewall's Diversity Champions scheme, as they are realising just how dangerous it is to disallow free speech. With luck, more will follow.

Unfortunately for genuine transpeople, Stonewall has set back their cause by many years.
