Or is that too personal a question?

No. The Head made the son of his mate, another local Head, Head Boy. There were better candidates!

I was the furthest thing from Head Girl that you could possibly imagine!

I was made a monitor in the Lower Sixth. I was supposed to keep order over lunchtime in the new part of the school which was built when we went comprehensive from being a Grammar school. My younger sister had moved to my school during this process from her secondary school and made my life a misery refusing to do anything I said. I was demoted and very glad to go back to spending lunchtime in the library!

I was a prefect for a year in secondary school

I was a prefect for 2 years. Hated it because of the abuse I got this was back in the mid 70's. Hopefully things have changed if they still have perfects.

I was form captain once!

Ours was a big day school with a small boarding house. I was the Senior Boarder.

At the end of the year the Headmistress said if she had any more Senior Boarders like me, she would start choosing them from the junior school.

My DS said this was a compliment to my effectiveness in representing the boarder's interests to the teachers, rather than being a mouth piece for the head mistress to the boarders.

I think the boarders voted me into the job because they recognised my natural bolshieness and also the way I would always speak-up and wasn't intimidated by authority.

In the infant school, I was the monitor who went to collect the teachers’ cakes at break time from the bakery next door. Sometimes I was allowed a pink iced ring doughnut as a reward.

In the third year sixth, I was Deputy and became Head Girl in January after the HG left to spend the last two terms in Germany before going to university. I used the status to skive PE first thing Monday morning as I made sure that the Head wanted to see me.

No Kate 1949……that was me!

Nope.
We still had a head girl but my school sort if did away with prefects during my time there. Well they decided that all of the lower sixth could act as sub prefects and all the upper sixth could act as prefects. But in reality we just didn't really have any. Was a bit peeved because when there were prefects they got to wear short sub fusc gowns which I always coveted!! But I probably wouldn't have made prefect anyway...

I was ink monitor in Primary school. The ink was a powder that had to be mixed with water, my teacher said I always got it just right.

At Secondary School I was a Prefect in the 4th year and a Senior Prefect in the 5th year - I still have my badges - never made it to Head Girl. But I was Editor of the School Magazine for three years because I did well in English.

My sister was Head Girl at the Catholic Convent Boarding School we went to. Can you imagine it? she was a real goody goody too, The only thing I could do was to be the worst behaved girl there!

@ Atqui I always thought it such a glamorous post to be voted into, although I’m not sure who did the voting. We had ‘super model’ looking girl who was sleeping with the geography teacher!

My schooling was a bit of a car crash. Alcoholic head who choose different ones to go out and buy his booze when we were in juniors. ( yes we were served) Another head who was a pervert and a bully.

inishowen Thu 25-Nov-21 11:27:30

I was a prefect. My form teacher put me forward to be one. However the old bag that was in charge of prefects didn't like me so she ignored my completely.

Yes. Fun!

Trisha57 Thu 25-Nov-21 11:35:10

I've just remembered this! One of my jobs on Fridays in Junior School (Y6 nowadays) was to write out the menu chart for the teachers' lunches for the following week, in duplicate using carbon paper, ruler and pen and take it to the staff room for them all to indicate their choices. The fog of cigarette smoke in there used to make my eyes water - you could barely see through it to find the teachers!!!

I do wonder how you ended up dating someone who was mean to you Katy!
