Daughter-in-law thread - please don’t look away!

I'm afraid I don't have one grannyactivist but I enjoyed reading about yours and the lovely relationship you have which is just as it should be.

I don't have a DIL but a future one, and she is a lovely person, we are both in the same line of work so bonded immediately.

The main thing is, she makes my son very happy and that's all I could truly hope for

Oh that's lovely grannyactivist. My dil is just like yours and a teacher to boot! We are lucky to have such kind, thoughtful members of the family. Oh yes, and she knows exactly how to handle our son!

I'm very fond of my DILs and SILs - and eternally grateful that they put up with my kids - and make them happy. What else could I ever ask for?

I am very lucky too, my daughter-in-law is gorgeous - outside and in. She's very thoughtful and such a kind person. She always includes us in the grandchildren's lives and regularly takes photos of us with them and sends them to our WhatsApp group. She is happy to ask for advice (usually regarding cooking), is a wonderful Mum, and is just an allround lovely person. Our son is a very lucky lad! I can honestly say I love her as much as our own 2 sons.

grannyactivist your daughter in law sounds lovely and everything you could wish for in a wife and mother. She sounds just like my son’s lovely wife of 14 years and the mother of my 2 youngest grandchildren. She fitted in seamlessly to our family 18 years when they first met as students. She’s a wonderful wife and mother and also a hard working teacher.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our Christmas plans as she had covid but we are hoping to all be together next week.

I’m so happy to read about other lovely daughters-in-law because often the focus is on people in our lives who are difficult, (I have one or two of those in my extended family too ?) and that sometimes means we don’t celebrate the lovely people enough.

She's not an in-law yet, but I am keeping everything quietly crossed that my son's lovely girlfriend of a year will be staying in our lives for the duration ?????

I am extending this to sons-in-law. I have two. They are both magnificent. The one who married my eldest is a fantastic husband and father of my two grandchildren and includes us in everything that they can. We get on well with his parents too. Similarly the younger daughter's hubby, though we live a long way away, but he's everything we could wish for. I am blessed.

I have two lovely daughters in law.They look after myself and my husband just as they do their own parents and we love them so very much. They’re full of fun and its a pleasure to be in their company.

My DIL is absolutely lovely, as are her parents.
I am very fortunate.

My only isn’t married to his lovely partner but they have two beautiful children and I count her as my DIL. They live abroad and I’ve not seen them for 2 yrs now. She is also a teacher and she is so lovely always sending me pics and videos of the children and keeps me up to date. When I do visit she takes care to include me in everything, taking trips out around their area, beaches, mountains, restaurants etc she is the best thing that happened to my very shy son he’s blossomed in the last 10yrs.

My daughter in law is lovely too. She and the family are getting ready to go to the airport shortly. They've been here for almost 2 weeks. I hadn't seen them for 3 years and I'm going to miss them so much.

My sort of daughter in law is lovely too and puts up with DS2.

I too have a wonderful DiL and, as I told the vicar at the wedding, I cannot believe that someone so lovely would want to marry our son.

They have been staying a week and it has been lovely. She has been part of the family for nearly 20 years and we have never had a cross word or disagreement.

They are excellent parents and seeing our grandchildren growing up, such caring people, is a credit to their parents.

I may not have a deep relationship with dil/ partner but I do believe my sons are both well loved and respond equally. That's enough for me. ( would have wanted a " surrogate daughter", but they are happy. Job done .)

We are also very lucky , as we have a beautiful and loving DIL. She has a very high powered career, but still manages to spend time with us, and is the perfect partner for our son. We hit it off from the moment we met her, she fits into the family perfectly, and we love her to bits. Her mum and dad,her brother and his wife have also become part of our extended family, and we all get on so well.

Our future SIL is also much loved, and fits in well. I also love ,admire and am so grateful for the way he handles our quite highly strung daughter, in fact I think he deserves a medal!

The four of them get on well too, and have days out together. We feel as if we have 4 children to love. I do appreciate the fact that we are very lucky to have these wonderful people in our family.

I love the comments about how many of us love our dils because they love our sons!! I secretly think the sons can't be bad either!

We have four DiL’s three are kind, caring, wonderful mothers and wives to our sons and we get on very well. They get on well with DD and the cousins are very close.

Unfortunately the other DiL is very different, I will not say anymore.

I've been very lucky with my daughters-in-law. My younger son's partner is an absolute delight, a real friend and so kind.
But the big sadness is that my elder son and his wife got divorced a couple of years ago and it's been like a bereavement.
I was so fond of her, still am really and we are remaining on friendly terms. But she was the one who broke up the marrriage so I must be loyal to my son.
Not having daughters, these lovely daughter's in law have been a real bonus in my life and I treasure them.

My DiL is lovely and very kind and helpful. She and our DS have produced two beautiful girls.

This makes lovely reading. I only have sons-in-law whose praises I am happy to sing, but my sister’s two DiL are wonderful, caring women and she often tells me how good they’ve been.

This is about my future DIL.
She has been so good for my original quiet man, younger son, who always hated being the centre of attention and was too shy to find a partner.
She is generous, quirky, unconvential, fun, forthright, with no hidden agenda, but most of all she loves my son and he her.

We stayed over with them on Christmas Day, because she had decided that due to ongoing my ill health, she would take over the entertaining.

I have a permanent hacking cough and was struggling to breathe. The next minute my rather tipsy, future DIL, squeezed in beside me and started rubbing my back to try and relieve the coughing. I realised then, how much she cares for me! She is a keeper.

Sadly our eldest son is going through a divorce but we are still close to our dil. She is the mother of our two GDs and keeps us up to date with their achievements and sends lots of photos.
