Have a 70th birthday party planned for the 22nd January, having doubts about people wanting to mix. Would you attend a party for approximately 120 people ? Need to make a decision!

Def NO - glad it’s cancelled, was that the venue ? Have something in summer, a birthday is for a year ?

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 05-Jan-22 11:12:12

Definitely not! I value my health.

No. I am even having doubts about going to the hairdresser, though I am in desperate need of a cut. Haven't been since the beginning of the pandemic.

120 people would be an enormous risk. Really not a good idea.

We attended a family wedding on 27 December and it turned into a super spreader event. About 90 attendees and of our family table of 20 people - 14 are now Covid-19 positive, most were triple vaccinated too (hubby and I missed the bullet thank goodness) and I don’t know about the other 70 odd people.
I didn’t hug and kiss people, and I sprayed Boots First Defence up my nose regularly, they say it helps.
We knew there were risks attached to attending and have not mixed at all since, done regular lateral flow tests and 2 x PCR tests to be 100% safe before visiting my elderly mother.
It’s a tough decision to make. Stay safe everyone smile

Am I the only person who would have gone!

Theoddbird Wed 05-Jan-22 11:47:15

No I wouldn't...

EllanVannin Wed 05-Jan-22 11:48:19

Not wise at all. I missed out on my big family 80th, 15 months ago sad
I was obviously upset about it but realised that one missed birthay celebration seemed a small price to pay than no further birthdays ?

MissChateline Wed 05-Jan-22 11:51:28

I would have gone. I’m triple vaccinated and am not at all concerned about getting something that would probably only amount to cold like symptoms. Life has to go on

Glad to read you've decided to cancel it.

I'm now 72 but am hoping to celebrate my 70th at the end of April. It's been arranged three times now !

Ksb65 Wed 05-Jan-22 12:15:48

Definitely not! Maybe wait until later in the year and see how the situation is then.

Cossy Wed 05-Jan-22 12:31:53

Nope ! Especially as I have a member of my own household and my son in another both testing positive for Covid following two different NY events !

I went with my brother and a friend to their local pub on New Years Eve, small restaurant, socially distanced tables, only interacted with staff. Message on 1st Jan to say the manager tested positive that morning. Both my brother and his friend have COVID now and I am testing daily, so far negative. The only thing I didn’t do, which they did, was shake hands with 3 others, including manager.

I would neither attend one, nor hold one at the moment or anytime in the forseeable future.

Juicylucy Wed 05-Jan-22 13:03:38

Gosh no

Grantanow Wed 05-Jan-22 13:05:03

Of course not. Just because Boris is scared of his backbenchers and so limited lockdown measures does not mean we all have to be stupid.

Bridgeit Wed 05-Jan-22 13:09:15

I wouldn’t attend a party with 20 people , never mind 120 !

Daisydaisydaisy Wed 05-Jan-22 13:10:08
