Good morning from a dark, chilly E Kent.
Bon voyage, Urms. Hope you enjoy your stay in Spain.
Up early this morning as DH had another bad night and kept me awake. Our problem is that, although I sleep badly, I sleep better without him, and he sleeps better with me. Lose, lose…
Our Spanish class went well, but we were told it was unlikely to be face to face until at least the September term, which is sad. Our tutor has been doing a sterling job.
Bedding change today. Visit to my old friend in the Retirement Home. I have to put my best face on, find things to amuse her, and keep my temper with her querulousness.
Best of luck with your appointment, Mary. I hope you get lots of your questions answered. ❤️
Thinking constantly of grannySomerset. ❤️
Carpe diem, dear friends, May you have a good day. ?????

Beechnut Fri 07-Jan-22 06:18:08

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. It’s dark and the cars look icy.

I’ll go shopping this morning, not so much a regular shop more of a bits and pieces that I could do with. When I come home it will probably be my regular lazy Friday. If things were different my family would be here today.

Have the best day you can all ❄️?

Alizarin Fri 07-Jan-22 06:34:52

Woke up to heavy rain here in south Cornwall and a cool breeze from my open window, remembered that I put up my shelving last night and grinned. Eight holes drilled, lots of up and down a stepladder, working out which thing went in what hole and I laughed at my ineptness till I ached. Cow handling a musket, as my dear mum would have said. Son helped from afar via Whatsapp. The world is my DIY oyster now. Wondering what I can do with the grinding stones in my drill set...

Thinking of you grannySomerset, I've been through this with my young brother and my dad. The waiting... Hugs.

Good morning all from a wet and rainy Glasgow.
At least it not the snow and ice, which was forecast, since I have an early morning hospital appointment, where I shall have my first face to face RA appointment in two years, with my new consultant.
Hopefully I can get some answers about what is going on.

I have had very little sleep, due to high pain levels and am a very grumpy, old woman this morning. I feel as if I have toothache all down one side of my body.
How can Mr MD's head hit the pillow and he falls instantly, with no difficulty? then snores like some demented and distressed pneumatic drill ?

A stressful journey ahead, through one of the busiest junctions in Glasgow, the schools are back to add to the traffic congestion and my chauffer always needs reminded of the bus lanes!

Mick, I change the batteries in my watches myself, either buying them in the £1 shop or Renata ones (the ones the jewellers use) on the Internet. I have saved a fortune over the years.
I used to do it for my colleagues, when I was working, I enjoy fixing things. blush At no charge, of course.

Sending best wishes to the Covid warriors and wishing them a speedy recovery.
For GrannySomerset?
Wishing Urms a safe journey. #luckygran!

I have a question which Urms, and Pants, may be able to answer. Just out of curiosity, does travel insurance now include cover for contracting Covid and is it much more expensive than previously?

Have the best day possible, everyone!

Marydoll Fri 07-Jan-22 06:44:06

Thank you GM. I miss my retired consultant. He was eccentric, but so kind and supportive.
When I was in another hospital after my first heart attack, one of the RA consultants there came to see me and on hearing who my consultant was, said he was a legend and revered by all!! ?
He retired just before the pandemic hit, but because my new consultant was seconded to Covid ICU, at seventy one, against the wishes of his family, he returned to work to support his former patients, me included. An unsung hero of the NHS.

Scentia Fri 07-Jan-22 06:46:20

Good Morning all from East Staffordshire where it is freezing ?
No work today, I am resting my leg, although I am finding it is improving every day.
DD and DGC are on their way over to stay for the weekend as DSiL is due onshore today and needs to keep away from Covid germs as that would be a money losing nightmare if he was to get it at the moment and not be able to go back to work on Monday. We are going to all be Covid moaners together this weekend ?
I am planning on a food delivery from a fast food place who are now doing plant burgers this lunch time so I hope DD and DH don’t put the ‘kibosh’ on that by saying it is bad for you?
Just watching done baby flamingos on TV, how cute????
Grannysomerset is always in my thoughts ??
I have done my PCR and will go and post it shortly as soon as the sun comes up.
Take care everyone and stay safe.
Enjoy Spain Urms a postcard on here each day would be lovely❤️

Sar53 Fri 07-Jan-22 06:50:12

Good morning from cold, dark Essex by the sea.
After five minutes of tears DGD5 enjoyed her first day at her new nursery. DD2 sent me lots of pictures of what she had been doing.
DH and I are off to a Marina in Kent this morning to look at another boat. It looks good online so here's hoping it is just as good in the flesh.
Safe journey to Urms, enjoy your time in Spain.
Have a great Friday whatever you may get up to xx

kittylester Fri 07-Jan-22 06:51:14

Good morning all from North Leicestershire- it doesn't seem too cold and it isn't raining.

Decorators back today.

Had an exhausting day yesterday helping at a Memory cafe, hearing that 2 of the children have covid symptoms and can't access tests and my brother has more (minor) heart issues. I also heard that our Singing for the Brain Group will not be restarting in January and May start in February.

FannyCornforth Fri 07-Jan-22 06:55:23

Good morning everyone from me in bed with DDog and DCat in (D)Derby.

I thought that I’d better make an appearance as I don’t want to upset Mary any further (#^scared^).

I’ll include a few funnies by Tony Husband.
It’s good to see Matt back courtesy of Urms. He is such an incredibly understatedly talented man.

Thinking of all those with worries and sadness thanks

Wishing you all a pleasant and peaceful day x

FannyCornforth Fri 07-Jan-22 06:56:29

Apologies - the tag lines for the first two cartoons haven’t appeared confused

Ashcombe Fri 07-Jan-22 06:58:11

Good morning, all, from a damp Torbay.

I’m sorry to hear of poor sleepers and Covid sufferers and hope they see improvement soon. Safe travels to Urmstongran and kind thoughts to GrannySomerset.

I’m helping to host our monthly Memory Café at the theatre later but not expecting many to attend.

Take care and keep warm! ?????

Marydoll Fri 07-Jan-22 07:08:50

Oh bu***r, it's snowing!!!

Glad to see you Fanny!

grandMattie Fri 07-Jan-22 07:25:25

?? for you, Mary.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 07-Jan-22 07:28:30

Good morning from East Yorkshire . It’s dark and damp as I peep out the window.

All went to plan yesterday with deliveries etc.

Today we are off to a place called Thurnham near Lancaster for a few days. Looking forward to a change of scene. If the foreign travel rules had changed earlier than Weds we might have hung on and booked somewhere in hotter climes. As it is we will wait for a holiday in March where we should have gone last March.
Safe journey Urms I do envy your Spanish travels!

Thoughts to * GrannySomerset* ?
Take care everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 07-Jan-22 07:32:54

Morning Mick & all

Safe journey Urmstongran I am envious ?

Granny duties with The Imp today and hopefully a visit to our local Indian restaurant tonight.

Keep safe and well folks ??‍♀️

AGAA4 Fri 07-Jan-22 07:33:39

Good morning from North Wales. It has snowed overnight and feels very cold.
MaryDoll I hope your appointment goes well and the snow doesn't disrupt your journey.
My GD is ill and will miss our lunch out tomorrow.
Thoughts to all who are not well or have worries.

Urmstongran Fri 07-Jan-22 07:34:03

And we’re off! ✈️

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s still dark, raining and I’ve had to make my own tea as Himself is still snoozing. We have a very civilised flight time of 4pm and will ring for a taxi at 1pm. I hate rushing and, if there’s no queues, we will have time to eat a meal in Giraffe.

I like that I only need to take a handbag with my iPad, kindle, purse, keys, makeup etc. Himself uses a small grip bag (I’ve stuffed 2 new bras in it - I hope they don’t unzip it he’d be mortified ha!).

Regards Covid cover Marydoll we have annual cover for the 2 of us. It’s about £60 for the policy (I’ll check when he wakes and if it’s any different I’ll get back to you) and I asked Himself to check about Covid insurance specifically. He rang the chosen (by him) company and was assured last July that we were indeed covered. Sadly, I think in your case that your co-morbidities would in themselves push up the cost of a policy, independent of Covid. That said, your question was possibly just rhetorical. As you say Pantglas may have a different story here.

So, my lipgloss is in my clear makeup bag and I’m good to go. It will seem strange not bothering with boots - apparently it’s 20°C this weekend! Nice phrase Scentia I shall send a daily ‘postcard’ from our trip which is just shy of 3 weeks. Doubtless I’ll be having a stroll along the paseo to check that Pantglas has it all prepared for our stay!
?⛱?

Enjoy Friday (already?) those who can. Here’s Matt. x

Gingster Fri 07-Jan-22 07:36:04

Good morning all and it’s cold again here in Essex. I don’t think there’s a frost! We covered up the car windscreens last night as the frost was thick yesterday morning and it took ages to clear. as I’m on the school run, I didn’t want to faff around again this morning. The air blower doesn’t seem to be working as it should, so the car is booked in for next week.

Bon Voyage Urms.✈️

Bravo Alizirin - good work! ??

I hope the boat comes up to expectations Sar ??

DD has a hospital appointment today and her brother is taking her. Another one on Monday to see the plastic surgeon.
We might go to our usual Friday gathering with old friends in our usual country pub for a drink and light lunch, sitting around the fire. ?

Hope all goes well for appointments, travelling, etc. Take care ❤️

dragonfly46 Fri 07-Jan-22 07:41:31

Good morning - still dark here in Leicestershire.

We were back to Zoom last night for NWR. I hate it. This morning I have Nordic Walking group which can be face to face as it is outside.

Hope your appointment goes well Mary.
Safe journey Urms not at all ?!
My thoughts are with those who are worried or poorly and grannySomerset.

Jaxjacky Fri 07-Jan-22 07:47:40

Good morning all, a bit later today I dozed after the alarm, MrJ long gone to work, rain is imminent.
I hope your journey is smooth Urms warmth and sunshine await.
No real plans today, I think a wipe down of kitchen units and hoovering are required, Tesco delivery later and an Indian takeaway for dinner.
Getting there Scentia resting, though unlike you, will help heal. Enjoy your break Grandmadinosaur.
Thoughts, as always, with GrannySomerset.
??

harrigran Fri 07-Jan-22 07:53:29

Good morning from a cold and frosty NE.
Received probate from the solicitor yesterday, DD and SIL are going to visit today and we will make a start on finalising DH's affairs.
Thinking of Marydoll and hoping appointment goes well.
Thoughts are with GrannySomerset, a gentle hug for you.

brook2704 Fri 07-Jan-22 07:53:58

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold and frosty and another new layer of snow on the ground.
Have a lovely trip Urms and safe journey. I’m definitely feeling the need to book a holiday somewhere soon!
Today I’ll be going to the gym for my splash around at the Aqua class, it's on 3 times a week so I go when I can as I’ve nothing else to do and I enjoy it ?. Afterwards I’ll meet DH and we’ll go out for a coffee somewhere later.
Hoping all goes well today marydoll
Take care all whatever the day brings ?

monk08 Fri 07-Jan-22 07:56:52

Just wanted to wish Urms safe journey enjoy the sun.
Mary hope the appointment goes well
Enjoy your Friday everyone and may you all find some ?.

cornergran Fri 07-Jan-22 08:05:43

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is dark and damp, rain sounded like machine gun fire on the bedroom window in the night. Clear skies have been rare, I’d love to wake to a clear sky and a frost, odd though that sounds

Nothing to report here. As the chief organiser (me!) is still feeling less than energised not a lot happening. On the positive side our covid-son is almost back to normal and our daughter in laws family will all be out of isolation this weekend.

Hope your family have few symptoms kitty, always something to worry about with families. Safe trip urms. Hope your journey is less fraught than you fear marydoll and the appointment gives you some answers.

Thoughts are with grannysomerset and all with heavy hearts. Hope Friday is gentle with us all.
