There has been a spate of fabricated posts recently.
I think the latest is to feed someone’s sexual fantasy the others have just been ridiculous.
What on earth goes through these peoples minds when they write this tosh?
Do they get a kick out of the replies?

it is better to report then leave it alone because just by starting this thread about another feeds into the probem in my opinion.......

TMs?

If that message was sent supposedly from a friend, say on Facebook, it usually means that the friend's account has been hacked and they may be unaware.

It could be a number of reasons. mental health, loneliness, or let's just have a laugh at the Grans which is deeply unpleasant.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 07-Jan-22 12:31:03

How did they tell you it was TMs, did they PM you?

jaylucy Fri 07-Jan-22 12:32:06

Maybe we should have a competition about who can think of the most outrageous things they would like to post ?
I must admit I was taken in by one post before Christmas and it wasn't until I read some of the replies form other Gransnetters that I realised!
Whatever you belong to, there always seems to be a few people that have too much time on their hands and just want to stir.
If you call them out, they usually get very offended and offensive and the only thing that you can do is report them and hope that the post and the author are removed.

As a Sam we were expected to head them off as it were without acknowledging that we had sussed them if possible and I remember one night hearing my fellow Sam, an exceedingly spry lady well into her 70’s even 80’s , say in a cut glass accent “Young man, are you wanking?”
We were convulsed!

MayBeMaw didn’t want to reveal too much but the majority of new starters who left us gave TMs as their main reason.

I can believe that - not because anybody is shocked, although some of the fantasies were plain mucky, but because you set out to listen in good faith, you are there because you want to help and you are then taken advantage of.

That reminds me of one of the times I was on Jury service, hearing the frightfully posh Barrister reading word for word the defendants statement with all of the extremely crude words pronounced very carefully, with all of the aitches missing and local slang words, it was so hard not to giggle.

Your iPad is probably in shock lucca and busy hiding it’s ears
I wouldn’t leave any helpline because of that but I would have a job keeping a straight face

When I lived for a while in london in a flat with three other girls we had a TM who would phone and tell us his “dimensions “. In December the phone rang and he said “Hello this is Peter…with the 9 inches..” my friend told him to bugger off. Whereupon he said “I was just ringing to wish you Merry Christmas”

I do not think teens would get much pleasure from reading an over 50s forum, there are many far more entertaining sites.

I do think it is one person who has been using other names for a couple of years, she is either drunk, bored, or just likes the attention.

Some will remember a couple of years ago she was on a post with two identities, either signing in and out or using two devices, she confused herself and made a nasty comment using her "nice person" name, this was picked up by a couple of members. She disappeared for a while after that. She does not seem to comment on the made-up threads now, maybe worried she will confuse herself again.

BlueBelle Fri 07-Jan-22 13:27:37

Ohh you’re clever elizabeth I m not bright enough to know who you are talking about unless it was ‘she who flew’ and caused a lot of disruption for a while

I remember my days on mumsnet, most of the top trolls turned out to be long term regular posters.

Many years ago whilst living at home we regularly had 'TM's' I remember answering and calling to Dad "hes on again" the response was always put the phone down. That it. We were bored, the caller was eventually bored end of.

Having said that, until we got the gist of what was happening the stories became more and more complex to hold our attention.
One was they had kidnapped a member of the family.
This had a kernel of reality for us as a family member had been taken by their Aunt for a walk, in the pram, without permission, after said Aunt had her 3rd child die, and everyone panicked until child was found.
So we engaged the caller to find out more.
Eventually Mum who had spent the day cleaning, cooking and caring for my Gmother, and was now caught up in preparations for dinner and decidedly tense, marched out from a steamy kitchen, into the hall took the phone off me, and said "you say the name of the person you have is Nancy, well if that is indeed my mother you can keep her!
If my experience is anything to go by, she'll dive you up the wall. So you can strangle her with my blessings or let her go, just dont send her back here!
And banged the phone down.
We all collapsed laughing, although if I remember correctly Mum didnt.

Oh, dear - that's rather worrying!

GillT57 Fri 07-Jan-22 13:54:41

Blimey! I never see any of these, maybe by the time I sign in all of the suspicious posts have been removed.

Elegran Fri 07-Jan-22 13:59:37

You'll just have to get up earlier, GillT57, or get up in the small hours to check the latest posts.

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 14:01:42

omg who on earth has the time be a regular poster and a troll or numerous trolls confused
