Give me back my bodyguards: Prince Harry threatens legal action against the government and demands return of police protection because 'it is not safe for the Sussexes to return to UK for visits'

Because he is a close relative of the Queen , Harry and family would be a target for terrorists and nut jobs. He would need security. The met would be able to provide armed security and have access to immediate backup, which unarmed bodyguards wouldn’t be able to do. He would pay for this service. I can’t think why people would object to this when the taxpayers are forking out for security for Prince Andrew, ex PMs etc

his thread is rolling on and on with out of the air comments by peope who don't read what's gone before!

reasons have been given as to why this can't happen.....You cannot hire the Met for privats security. read through the thread.

nadateturbe Tue 18-Jan-22 07:27:43

I've read the thread. I still think he should get it.

Are we maybe missing a point here? Would the British Armed Police actually wish to share their intelligence with a private police organisation? There are so many different departments it would be difficult to allow an outside group into the fold. DS does military "jobs" and the co ordination required by all divisions is meticulously guarded.
What we can be assured of is that if anyone were intending to harm Harry and actually made a move, then the British Police would act immediately and appropriately anyway.

LadyWee I do not think I am among the vitriol throwers, but in life generally, I have little time for those who walk away from tasks in life but demand all the benefits. Like the man who refused to pay his Council Tax because he was a 'sovereign citizen' but didn't hesitate to use all the services the council provided from maintaining the roads to educating his childrem.

Prince Harry and his wife have decided that being an official member of the Royal family with its obligations is not for them. So they have returned to the country of her birth and are making their future their.

Prince Harry now has to accept that if he does that he cannot keep all the bells and whistles and trappings of that former life, while not 'earning' them.

There are many celebrities and politicians in the public eye, who I would think would be as likely if not more so of attracting the attention of malefactors who would choose to harm them. They do not get police protection and must organise their own security.

Prince Harry is now a private citizen. He is enjoying all the pleasures and privelieges that go with not being a member of the Royal Family. He must learn to deal with the downsides as well.

LadyWee

No one actually knows the truth about anything that happened with any of the royal family.
Because they are in the public eye people feel they can judge and criticise and state their opinions and judgements as truths.
Leave them alone! Stop falling for the British press intentions of inciting heroes and villains and victims.
All of these people are actually people! They all have feelings and emotions and this constant bashing of people on the public eye is immature, damaging and unhelpful. Like them or dislike them fine, but there is no need to write on forums in this way.
It just encourages the press to keep on hounding celebrities because it promotes conversation and sells papers. If it’s not celebrities it’s public sector workers!
How many more deaths of public figures do we need for the public to understand this!

Well said. I hate the way people just casually announce on threads that X member of the Royal family had an affair/is gay/is illegitimate when all they're going on is ill informed press reports and gossip. Some of them even claim to have heard this from 'a very reliable source' ie 'my cousin's neighbour's cousin went to school with someone who uses the same dry cleaner as Carol Middleton' s sister'.

It's so irresponsible to casually spread rumours like that with no thought for the actual human beings involved.

Exactly. The Met are not for hire, it’s that simple. It doesn’t matter what any of us think about Harry and Meghan, it’s a fact that the Met cannot be hired by private individuals.

Harry doesn’t want a British Bobby, he wants a protection squad who work with MI5 , he wants what the Queen has.

Josieann Tue 18-Jan-22 08:52:06

LadyWee I am neither a vitriol thrower nor a basher. In my experience those posters are usually one line throwers who find the nastiest comment to shock.
Many on the H & M threads have feelings too, and like me are a people's person who likes to fathom out human nature, particularly within the family unit. I do admit that the British press has a lot to answer for in its portrayal of victims and villains, and that people might jump to conclusions, but there have been some very discerning and enlightening comments on the Royal threads, including this one, which are of interest to many posters, even beyond those posting here.

Yes Annie but whatever he wants, it simply isn’t available to be hired as and when an individual wants or requires it.

Josieann Tue 18-Jan-22 09:06:42

a very reliable source' ie 'my cousin's neighbour's cousin went to school with someone who uses the same dry cleaner as Carol Middleton' s sister.
grin
Well someone has to use the same dry cleaner as Carole Middleton's sister, though I thought she only had a somewhat colourful brother?

Anniebach Tue 18-Jan-22 09:06:50

Yes maddyone it has been said on this thread the police do
carry out protection and there is payment but this is for police
crowd patrol not special squads , he shouldn’t and can’t expect
the protection which the working members of the royal family
receive,his six cousins don’t.

maddyone Tue 18-Jan-22 09:08:48

Yes I agree Annie but I believe it’s not possible for individuals to hire protection, only as you say, for crowd control.

Lincslass Tue 18-Jan-22 09:21:22

What I don’t understand , they live in one of the most dangerous countries in the Western world, where gun crime and the selling of guns is endemic. Hence the recent hostage taking. Yet this man wants personal protection for his family as he doesn’t feel safe in the country of his birth. . What. Recent comments by former girlfriends have stated his paranoia about personal security was rife. So why choose a gun toting country to live in.If they must come, they can be flown to Windsor by chopper, at his expense, see his , much berated by them, Grandmother, then fly back to Heathrow and away. Oh no he wants security to be able to visit privately his money making business mates. Very pleased to hear the Queen won’t get involved.

Well I know for an absolute fact that she has 3 illegitimate sisters, all fathered by Elvis Presley. In fact, if you look at Kate from a certain angle and then compare her to photos of Lisa Marie....

(that's a joke before anyone starts spreading rumours)

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Jan-22 09:28:39

If he wants to see his mates I think they have enough bedrooms to put them up in the US.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Jan-22 09:29:48

Not in great taste Beswitched.

Anniebach Tue 18-Jan-22 09:31:28

Yes, but the backdrop and scenery in USA would be pretty one dimensional for the Netflix movie compared with the balcony, the Mall, the crowds, the pageantry which must be included in the shoots.
Ooops photographic shoots, nothing else meant!

I have tried to follow this thread but it has:
a) repeated the same comments for 14 pages
b) turned into a gossip-fest of the worst kind with malicious speculation and accusations.
It must be true that old ladies have nothing better to do than gossip about other people!

Well you’re here too. Could say the very same about any other threads that like to gossip, spread rumours, without any proof whatsoever.

maddyone Tue 18-Jan-22 10:07:40

We know that Harry is seeking a judicial review over his request to buy the services of a protection team whilst he is in the UK. This is not gossip, nor is it malicious speculation. It is a fact.
We also know that these services are not available to be bought by individuals. This is not gossip, nor is it malicious speculation. It is a fact.

Posters have a right to discuss any topic that they wish to discuss. Why do some posters wish to close down threads that are about Harry and Meghan?
Any discussion about Prince Andrew is most certainly speculation because we don’t fully know what happened yet, but posters don’t seem to be accused of gossip and malicious speculation when he is mentioned.

maddyone Tue 18-Jan-22 10:11:19

Incidentally I’m not defending Andrew. Whilst I don’t know the facts anymore than anyone else, if he is guilty of what he has been accused of, then I feel utter contempt for him. But what I’m expressing is not gossip, nor malicious speculation. I’m expressing an opinion, much as others have done about Harry and Meghan.

Exactly ... in order to raise his image in the US and on Netflix.

Nannashirlz Tue 18-Jan-22 11:07:05

My words to Harry would be maybe read the small print on contacts you sign. You can’t sigh something then expect it to change because you want it to. Instead of stressing our queen and being selfish brat after all you have put her through in last two years
