Give me back my bodyguards: Prince Harry threatens legal action against the government and demands return of police protection because 'it is not safe for the Sussexes to return to UK for visits'

I don't think many of us will fret if Met protection is withdrawn from Andrew but people could theoretically die as a result of this. Just as could have happened with Eugenie & Beatrice.

The latter are photographed wherever they go and Andrew will certainly be chased through the streets by the paparazzi without Met protection - he's as high profile and at risk as H&M.

Anniebach Sun 16-Jan-22 10:45:06

GagaJo there is no Queen of King of England.

Curlywhirly Sun 16-Jan-22 10:46:03

I suppose I can understand him asking for Police protection (as they are legally armed and have access to classified information on terrorists etc) and I am actually surprised that he's offered to pay for it. But, he should just accept gracefully that the request has been denied and certainly not be making it a legal matter. Their answer to anything they are not happy about is to get the lawyers in. America is a very litigious country and I think it's rubbing off on Harry.

Good point icanhandthemback. Lots of very unworthy people get taxpayer's money spent on them, including criminals. H&M are only here for a few days. If they decide to stay longer (unlikely) then some agreement needs to be made. But for short visits, well it's only a few days!

Harry and Boris have something in common. .... they have 'back seat drivers' ....so to speak.

Harry & Bozzer where the same characters as they are now long before they met their wives - they needed no encouragement.

Nannashirlz Sun 16-Jan-22 10:48:36

You never thought it’s there way to keep in the press. If they are not in the papers then we wouldn’t be talking about them. So well done for falling into the trap of talking about them. If I was queen I’d wash my hands of them and uncle as all a disgrace to her.

I would certainly say that Andrew needs Police protection whilst this legal battle is ongoing. Later on when it has all died down (presumably this will happen eventually!) he will I suppose be living a quieter more normal life and then it can be stopped. But he certainly needs Police protection for the time being as he is a target.

Lesley60 Sun 16-Jan-22 10:55:43

I Totally agree with Cold the Sussex’s always have to be in the limelight and always suing someone, to think they wanted to be like normal people they don’t seem to be doing a very good job of it.

Anniebach Sun 16-Jan-22 11:00:49

Andrew should have police protection whilst in this legal battle.
Does anyone want The Queen to bury her son.

AGAA4 Sun 16-Jan-22 11:04:07

It doesn't take long for H and M to get back in the headlines.
I would think the Queen has enough to put up with without Harry causing more stress for her.
The Andrew problem and the state of her government is more than enough for a 95 year old.

Chestnut Sun 16-Jan-22 11:04:50

I don't think the behaviour of either H&M or Andrew should be a factor when considering their protection. They are high profile targets, closely connected to the Queen, and for that reason should be protected. I am shocked that people think they deserve to be murdered.

maddyone Sun 16-Jan-22 11:06:17

Princess Anne and her family and Prince Edward and his family only receive protection when they are actually engaged in royal duties. All other times, no security. Security is being withdrawn from Prince Andrew (not sure why he got it as his brother and sister don’t) and Andrew’s daughters don’t receive security. Harry and Meghan don’t engage in royal duties any longer. It’s a bit like Djokovic, rules are rules. Harry can’t expect special treatment. Anne and Edward are children of the monarch, Harry is not.
Sorry, but I have no sympathy for Harry with this.

GagaJo Sun 16-Jan-22 11:06:32

Exactly Chestnut.

To answer your question Gaga, yes.

That is a shocking attitude GSM. They deserve to die for leaving the RF? That is a medieval attitude.

Where did you read that?

Was on BBC breakfast this morning. He wants the British taxpayer to fund his bodyguards when he visits the UK because he’s still a Royal and his private bodyguards apparently have no ‘jursidiction’ over here. If the reports are right, a clear case of wanting to have his cake and eat it. What is the Sussex’s problem ? Is Andrew stealing their limelight or something ?

Anniebach Sun 16-Jan-22 11:08:49

One reason Harry left this country was because he thought his family would be in danger , why ask for the same protection now when he had no trust in it then.

GagaJo Sun 16-Jan-22 11:09:48

Security is being withdrawn from Prince Andrew (not sure why he got it as his brother and sister don’t) so exceptions can clearly be made because Andrew has had it and is only having it removed because there is a suspicion he is a sex criminal.

Anne and Edward are children of the monarch, Harry is not. He will be when Charles is King.

Chestnut Sun 16-Jan-22 11:14:38

Security should be provided when it's needed, and in the case of H&M and Andrew it is definitely needed. I don't want any of them to be killed. What other members of the Royal Family have in the way of protection is neither here nor there. These people are at high risk at this moment in time.

EllanVannin Sun 16-Jan-22 11:16:51

Another entitled brat !

trisher Sun 16-Jan-22 11:16:58

Well as Her Maj is probably paying for Andrew's legal expenses maybe she could buy some protection for Harry. And yes it could be police protection providing she paid more than the going rate aafter all she can afford it and the police could do with the money. Wouldn't most of us spend any amount to keep our GCs and (if we had them) our GGCs safe.

Anniebach Sun 16-Jan-22 11:17:05

Why are Harry and Megan at high risk ?

Josieann Sun 16-Jan-22 11:23:43

I assume any threat to Harry and Meghan is going to be in the form of a nutter who is incensed with their very public treatment of their own family. The threat wouldn't be from anyone wanting to do away with the Royals because they would have 5 others to get through first. Perhaps someone who is enraged that Harry has deserted certain causes?

Rosalyn69 Sun 16-Jan-22 11:23:46

If Harry doesn’t feel safe here then don’t come. Would he missed?

H&M have offered to pay for it! The Queen doesn't have to.

GagaJo Sun 16-Jan-22 11:27:44

I'm sure if the Queen requested it, it would happen.

Maybe she should. As others have said, if she can pay for Andrew's legal defense, she can pay to protect her GGC. Harry could always quietly pay her back.

Let's be honest about this. The attitude that he shouldn't have protection when he visits the UK is punishment for leaving. Whatever other spin is put on it, that is the real reason.
