Okay, it was suggested on a different thread that a new thread should be started about this, so here goes.
So do we need a monarchy today? That’s it really.

I was a royalist until Prince Andrew’s grim behaviour was exposed. That he was sheltered, protected, and his payout was funded by the RF, enraged me. Looking up some of the posters points and doing my own research regarding the obscene amount of money they are paid and hoard, I’m now completely over the lot. I’ll be sad on the event of the queen’s death, but after her I would like the rest of the rag tag bunch of the English royal family to be abolished.

Everyone has a choice,IF they want to leave a never ending flow of cash and privilege ...guess thats not Lizzie and Co .
We can all change direction if its what they really want..or they can complain about the intrusive press all the while courting them for the publicity to ensure the flow of public money .
Its medieval ,its out of date and our of touch with the real world.Let it go when Lizzie dies

How rude Callistemon.

Callistemon21 Sat 12-Mar-22 21:13:45

Possibly nadaturbe

But the continual onslaught of anti-English, anti-monarchist rhetoric from this poster has become tedious over many years.
I'm not a staunch monarchist by any means, but the hatred and bile about anything English is relentless.

I don't think I'm the only one fed up with it.

Mollygo Sat 12-Mar-22 21:19:52

No Callistemon21 and if you were rude you’ve had a good example set by some of those posting the continual onslaught you mention.
I’m almost convinced to be a royalist by them.

Callistemon21 Sat 12-Mar-22 21:24:19

Thanks Mollygo
I try to always be polite on GN even if I disagree and even if goaded, but just very rarely, if someone really tries my patience beyond endurance with their unpleasantness, I might say exactly what I really think!

How rude Callistemon.

Maybe if you’d listened to this shite for years and years you might be just a tad pissed off with it.

Straight to the point as usual

So strange, I am frequently criticised for my spelling of Megan
not a squeak from those posters when the Queen is called
Lizzie, never was when the same poster use to refer to
Phil the Greek.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 12-Mar-22 22:23:16

I too am fed up with it and hate to see the Queen called Lizzie.

Well Said I quite agree very well put.

Callistemon21 Sat 12-Mar-22 22:50:18

No, not at all well said.
A viewpoint can be expressed without venom

Callistemon21 Sat 12-Mar-22 22:51:25

But then some posters really are venomous and perhaps should be pitied.

Anniebach Sat 12-Mar-22 23:04:44

Such hatred , such talk puts one off being a republican, what sort of President would they want

nadateturbe Sun 13-Mar-22 02:32:12

Paddyann expresses herself rudely sometimes and does the Republian cause no favours.. I've told her so. But it's not OK to question her intelligence.
And it's not OK for anyone to use a derogatory form of a name because you don't like the person.
I too would like to see an end to the monarchy for the same reasons. Sooner rather than later. But I feel it will take time.

Grany Sun 13-Mar-22 09:50:31

We all have a choice it's right what Paddyann54 said. And the queen is called Elizabeth so it can be shortened to Liz or Lizzie and Co which includes the rest of her extended family nothing wrong with that.

The British should ask What is the monarchy for?

We found out queen lobbies had her lawyer exempt her from transparency act to hide her wealth.

What is particularly notable about this revelation is the extent to which the royal family may influence the formation of British laws in their own favour. Using the parliamentary procedure of the “Queen’s consent,”

When the receipts are laid bare, such as they are now, can we continue to affirm this cultural artefact that costs millions every year?

We are now in the middle of a pandemic that has caused incredible economic devastation—to say nothing of the many years of austerity. Poverty rates have now hit record highs. Can modern Britain really accept this lack of transparency on top of the already vast wealth and immunity of the royal family?

British people, and Britain, appear as small and vulnerable as everyone else on this planet. Revelations of overt Crown self-interest may finally puncture the appeal of living in a fantasy—even if it is only through the grandeur of somebody else.

We have a very unequal society in Britain and monarchy sits at the top and perpetuates this inequality

In short it is inconsistent with morality and democracy

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Mar-22 10:00:26

I didn't

And I didn't say I didn't like paddyann, just dislike some of her views and I think we all got thoroughly fed up of being shouted at over the years.

I assume you reported me nadateturbe

Anniebach Sun 13-Mar-22 10:09:39

Most confusing, the Queen is exempt from transparency act
to disclose her wealth yet we are told by grany details of the
Queen’s wealth , can we assume grany is just plucking figures to suit ?

nadateturbe Sun 13-Mar-22 10:35:13

Callistemon I know you didn't say that. Anniebach mentioned the use of Lizzie.
Grany I agree with republican views but Paddyann was using Lizzie in a derogatory way.

The RF are exempt from FOI.

I'm off! don't like arguing.

Grany Sun 13-Mar-22 10:40:50

The wealth she has accumulated over her role as HoS

Plus we know Sovereign Grant now stands at £85 million can only go up not down

Plus Duchy of Lancaster gives her while she is queen £22 million and going up. Charles gets same amount £22 million from Duchy of Cornwall going up

nanna8 Sun 13-Mar-22 10:42:04

I think in the uk you are stuck with them but it is high time we broke away from them in Australia. I don’t like them, feel no connection with them and just think it is time we grew up and stood on our own feet. Rather have the Danes ,if we have to have one of those families, because at least they have connections with Australia via Princess Mary.

Mollygo Sun 13-Mar-22 10:50:15

We have a very unequal society and people celebrating and revering ‘celebrities’ does more to damage society than the RF does.
Setting examples of rudeness and derogatory comments and thus implying that it’s OK to do so because you’re a republican and you don’t like the RF doesn’t do anything for the republican cause, but some posters on GN seem to think it’s OK.
If being a republican means being frequently rude and nasty as G and P demonstrate, it makes not being a republican a very attractive option.
