Good morning Mick and everybody. It’s colder in my corner of Lancashire this morning, currently 4°C. So far this morning we’ve had rain, sunshine and hailstones so it’s anybody’s guess how the afternoon will go.

Good news about your York trip Mick.

Glad your DH may be home soon and feeling chipper Scentia.

Glad the operation went well GrandMattie, safe journey home.

The sad and sickening news from Ukraine has driven other thoughts from my mind, but I don’t wish to bring this thread down. It’s being discussed elsewhere on Gransnet

Stay safe all.

I usually read these posts in the morning, but have only got tolook just now , it is good to see lots of bits of good news for people , so great to get an operation over you can feel that you are now starting on the road to recovery cant you? Glad that Mick is going to be able to still come to york. I have itchy feet to go and look round as it has been such a long time since I went , with shielding etc etc. At the moment it is still half term so wont try to go yet but maybe next week I might finally venture down to the park and ride . Depends on the weather, when I get hospital appointment for diabetic check ( apparently no one could confirm a date yet but says I should be going soon. Would have done but they packed up doing everything due to the covid situation!) didnt do well yesterday as there was one of those lethal half steps near a shop. You can hardly see it and as it is not a full step size it jarred my back, slightly tripped me and generally not good news . So back complaining more than usual, knees really hurting last night as I obviously tried to save myself and to cap it all last night managed to get something sharp in my heel so limping, hobbling, and sleepless!! So last night I was invited to go to a whist drive and decided to go . Used to play a lot but when my husband and I got together he wasnt very interested in cards, they were something we kept on the boat in case we were stuck somewhere, and we had scrabble etc so cant remember the last time I played but it was a very good evening, kept my mind from trundling along unhelpful lines such as electricty prices and what I can do to help my back etc. Awake about 4am and so decided to get up and go to very early swimming, but took so long to get ready and gave up in the end, but this afternoon went for first lesson at a duplicate bridge class starting from scratch with a good tutor. Great to meet some more local people, he is a good tutor , although does tend to jump from point to point at times. But it is just what I need, I had something to get my brain working and have a sort of little homework sheet to bring home and try to work out. I have put it by my bed so that when I get woken up and feeling rubbish it will be just the thing to do quietly and not disturb other people in the flats and take my mind off the back/knees/whatever else is aching. So it has been a very worthwhile thing to do today. I saw early this morning the dreadful news about Ukraine and Putin. Dreadful news and I feel very sorry for the ukranians but also the russian soldiers , who do not want this crazy situation organised by Putin and the Kremlin. It makes me feel very old when I remember the bay of pigs and how we all felt at that time, but this is so terrible and there is little I can do, but wait for news of collections or things needed to take to ukraine. It is all so dreadful that I feel all we can do at the moment is pray and hope that Putin wont be allowed to carry on as he is doing. May we all have as good an evening and night as we are able to and the simple pleasure of being in a safe, warm bed, and hopefully get more sleep than up until now. I wish you all a good night
