Can I ask if any of you have had cosmetic surgery or fillers in an attempt to make them selves look younger?
Would those who haven’t, consider it if they could afford it?The reason I’m asking is that, a friend of mine has had a face lift and it honestly looks amazing! You’d never know she’d had it done. So natural. She just looks 45 instead of 60! I never knew they Couid look so natural. It’s made me think about if I’d be brave enough if I had the funds.

Can people not feel proud of themselves what ever age they are we re not meant to look 20 when we are 70/80 there is nothing sadder than someone pretending to be young Lulu looks ridiculous Pricilla Presley even worse a young girl face on an old gals neck
I do not admire anyone who is so vain that they need to try to make themselves look like a teen again

Be proud ladies every line every wrinkle has a story behind it be proud of what you are and who you ve become

There’s no way I am trying to look like a teen again and I’m sure many others do not use it for that, they just want to make the best of what they’ve got, certainly in my situation anyway.Live and let live and l THINK I can live without your admiration BB….?

I know a couple of people who have had face lifts and they look amazing. I think it all depends on how much you actually have done. They both have lost their saggy jawline and droopy mouth but other than that just look their normal, healthy best. I don't think either had any sort of fillers though one is talking of getting her hooded eyes lifted.

Would I? I don't know. Maybe if I had so much money there was nothing else to spend it on ? but probably not. If I had that amount of money I would just be continuously travelling around the world.

No.
I know of older women in, who have beautiful skin with hardly any lines who, to my mind, are as old as the hills. They have an elderly attitude, dress old and generally have a jaded staid outlook on life.. They have fallen into the trap of not going anywhere unless its in the afternoon. Matinées Rule. Thdy stick to boring meals and basically won't get out of their comfort zones
On the other hand, have a friend 75+ who has a face that looks like a lived-in old boot.
She travels all over the world, doesn't dress safe, has a massive friendship circle and isn't afraid to go out at night.
She's constantly learning new things.
Even though her face is lined, her youth, enthusiasm and energy shine from within.
This woman comes across as far younger than some women 10 years her junior who have had work done.
I don't buy the myth that all it takes to look young is 'looking after your skin' and having botox and fillers.
Looking young is about also about Attitude.
No point trying to look like a 40 year old if you act and behave like a 90 Yr old.

Luckygirl3 Thu 10-Mar-22 17:21:24

Why would we want to look young? - we aren't. When we are young we do not think it is a bad thing - why feel bad about looking older. We just are what we are at each stage of life.

Farzanah Thu 10-Mar-22 17:22:57

I agree BlueBelle. I think it’s about confidence with who you are as a person, looks are superficial.
I value people for who they are, not what they look like.

Farzanah Thu 10-Mar-22 18:16:40

Yes Luckygirl. I heard something similar discussed recently, think it was on Women’s Hour. There is no “permanent” body ideal. At each state of life our body changes. Accepting this I think is empowering.

Patsy70 Thu 10-Mar-22 19:24:00

I couldn’t afford it, not even the teeth implants (which I was considering.). Instead, I spend money on my grandchildren (educational school trips, horse riding etc) and the home & garden, also my regular hair appointment. I don’t look bad for 74, or so I’m told! ?

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 10-Mar-22 20:09:28

I would look a bit odd with these treatments alongside my husband. People would think I was a gold digging floozie!

AreWeThereYet Thu 10-Mar-22 20:23:57

I don't think it's about wanting to look young in all cases though. For many it's just about getting rid of something that doesn't make you feel good about yourself. If I had the money I might consider it just to get rid of the marionette lines that make me look sad and bad tempered any time I'm not actively smiling. I don't want to look younger, just to look more like I feel inside. Then perhaps people would stop asking me why I'm unhappy, just because I'm not laughing.

No to all cosmetic surgery. I hate pumped up lips in particular.

The best thing I have done is get my dentist to make some plastic teeth guards and twice a year I put in peroxide and have whitened my teeth about 3 shades it has made such a difference.

Okay so a facelift can probably make you look younger but what about the rest of your body? It'll still have all the signs of aging.

GR206 Fri 11-Mar-22 11:42:02

Very similar to the Endymed Intensif mentioned, in UK it's called a Micro Dermapen treatment. Usually takes 3 treatments for full effect. It cost about £600 for the 3, it was a little uncomfortable during the 45 mins and I went a little 'red' for 3 days but otherthan that no one new why my skin was much brighter, it doesn't eradicate lines but somehow made them appear less deep. I made sure it was a nurse who treated me.

pen50 Fri 11-Mar-22 11:44:05

I don't think I was particularly attractive when I was younger but I seem to have improved compared to my age cohort as I've got older. So whilst I have certainly spent time in front of the mirror pushing and pulling at my lines and wrinkles, I've never had any real temptation to deal with them. My resting expression isn't good though, so I have trained myself to keep a smile on my face at all appropriate times.

I watched some news footage of Dolly Parton.......she's obviously had work done, her cheeks don't move and her mouth moves like she's a ventriloquist dummy.

Fashionista1 Fri 11-Mar-22 11:47:28

If cosmetic surgery, fillers or botox make you feel better about your ageing face, then I'm all for it. Like others on this thread I would have a lower facelift but the thought that something might go wrong and also the pain afterwards puts me off a bit. I think famous people indulge too much in cosmetic procedures and that's why they end up looking plastic. I think a one-off facelift might be ok if done by a reputable surgeon after having done lots of research.

I had the Endymed treatment in United Kingdom… if I had had all three treatments it would’ve cost me £750

Grandma14 yes, doesn’t make vital organs last any longer. I have enough trouble keeping up with dental and optician’s bills.

LizzieDrip Fri 11-Mar-22 12:04:58

No, I would never have any work done! Think Ann Robinson - she looks absolutely horrific. Growing old gracefully and with style is far better.

Annaram1 Fri 11-Mar-22 12:08:47

I've had Botox a couple of times to my forehead and around my eyes, and also fillers in my cheeks and the lines around my mouth. I think it was money well spent as I always looked better after a treatment. I went to a clinic in Exeter which specialised in facial treatments. Botox does not last long, but the fillers do. You hardly feel any pain when the products are injected. Due to covid I have not had anything done and all I see when I look in a mirror is a haggard old lady...

Alioop Fri 11-Mar-22 12:12:40

I'm just keeping my face the same age as I am. You start on your face, then there's your neck and it carries on and on. My hands the worst, so I would have a smooth face and old lady hands unless I wear gloves all the time... My friend gets fillers and Botox every 6 months, but wouldn't get Covid jabs because of the toxins being put in her body. Loon!
I say go on fab holidays, have great days out and don't worry about looking older, enjoy yourself and use your money in other ways.

It's not a road I'd be willing to go down but it's a personal choice and who knows what drives that choice in people.

I once met Sylvester Stallone’s mum years ago - that put me off for life …

Paperbackwriter Fri 11-Mar-22 12:23:30

I had a facelift when I was about 48. It was great. The surgeon said I'd look just like myself "but tidier" and he was right. I've never regretted it, though I slightly wish I'd waited another 10 years! I can't stand all the prim judgement about this subject. People are perfectly Ok with having teeth straightened (I've had that too, full-on braces in my mid 30s) yet apparently it's some kind of sin to enhance your face. Though having said that, I don't fancy fillers etc. I'm not keen on pain.

jaylucy Fri 11-Mar-22 12:28:50

No I haven't and no I wouldn't as have seen too many end up with fat lips way out of proportion - only use is to help lipstick manufacturers!
Someone I was at school with had a face lift that did look quite good - her face slowed down with ageing but it was a shame that her neck didn't!
She had to spend all year either wearing polo/turtle necks or scarves even in summer !

BlueBelle Fri 11-Mar-22 12:33:14

One very young (40 s) very pretty young lady I knew had her lips done She was such a pretty lady but the lips went one sided and try as I might I could not keep my eyes of it while I was talking to her Another lady in the opticians has huge lips and people who don’t know her name always say the lady with those lips and you know just who they are talking about I think people are very very silly and very vain to even consider it
Have you seen Dolly Parton face lately ?
