I worked in Social Services for many years and of course met many people, a lot of whom owned dogs. Only one dog in all those years managed, after several attempts, to nip my ankle as I was leaving, a Jack Russell terrier who was extremely protective of his elderly owners. They were mortified , but we resolved the issue by them promising to shut 'Fred' in the kitchen on any further visits. I wouldn't have dreamt of making a fuss and risk their much loved dog being removed or worse.
