Gaudy peacocks at Prince Phillip’s memorial service

I’ve just watched the start of the service and I was surprised at the gaudy gold thread and over embellished vestments of the clergy. They looked like a flock of peacocks each trying to be more flamboyant and eye catching than the next, a church version of my dick is bigger than yours. Why?
Then there’s all the gold and flamboyance in the actual church itself, there’s an awful lot of money in the church isn’t there. It’s a far cry from preaching on the hillside and being good to the poor.
Still the choir are good.

There are far worse people connected to the RF than Prince Andrew.

Give us a clue...who is worse than a suspected sexual predator who had to pay $12million of what might have been his mum's money, to avoid a court case?

FGS *this was *not a private family occasion but a state one & presumably funded with some public money.

It was a very deliberate act of public support for Andrew which is perfectly permissable. However, as an experienced and high profile public figure HM knows what she is doing and will be prepared for those of us who think it was too soon and be seen as a bit of a F-you to victims of sexual exploitation. She won't care anyway what I think!

“Suspected” being an important word here. Twitter and the lower end of the press suspect him. Not convicted, not even charged.

Just noticed that the Queen was walking with a thumb stick. That won't give her much support. If she has such mobility problems that she needs a stick she should have one of the right length and with a good hand grasp.

And yet...he is a suspected sexual predator who had to pay $12million of what might have been his mum's money, to avoid a court case

So who else in the RF is worse than that? What could possibly be worse than that?

Mollygo Wed 30-Mar-22 13:36:44

If we’re going to talk about paying- how many convicted criminals are we paying for to keep them incarcerated?
I’m not looking at guilty or innocent here. That involves the US version of justice.

I’ve read on here, though I don’t personally know, that HM paid or contributed to Andrews fees. If she did, then she had the choice whether to do that or not.
Unless she has no money of her own, she paid. How many of us have a choice about paying for bed and board for convicted criminals?

OK, this is getting weird...

PECS Wed 30-Mar-22 13:50:30

Nobody without some level of guilt pays that amount of money to avoid a court case. If he is as innocent as some believe he would have had his day in court. For the queen to strip him of his various titles etc. & fund part of the settlement was public acknowledgement that the RF have details of what unpleasantness would have come out in court.

To say it was not a high profile role ..you're having a laugh! Escorting the Queen of England in a highly televised and hyped up event seen across the world confused

Of course Prince Philip's family & close friends have every right to mourn him and have a memorial service for him. But this was a state occasion and very public. The queen will have intended that having Andrew escort her to be a way of 'rehabilitating' his public image.

PECS Wed 30-Mar-22 13:58:18

mollygo no real idea what you are on about!

Are you suggesting it is OK for families to pay to avoid a court conviction because society should not fund prisons?

If my son assaulted someone it would be better for me to pay a sum of money so I did not have to face the embarrassment of my beloved child facing a conviction? Is that what you are suggesting..or have I misunderstood your post?

Prince Andrew walking the Queen into Westminster Abbey is a slap in the face for victims of sexual abuse & proof (if ever needed) that the elite think they live under different rules.

The monarchy must go- it is central to maintaining class division.

Some people just don't see what an insult to the country this is, the 'I can do what I want' no consequences, we see it in out PM, privilege, elitism...knows no limits...yet the rest of are going to struggle, so long as this attitude remains equality is a joke

Anniebach Wed 30-Mar-22 14:04:43

The PM was voted in

volver Wed 30-Mar-22 14:07:36

And can be voted out again.

And will be.

PECS Wed 30-Mar-22 14:18:48

anniebach so was Putin .....

Just because someone wins an election does not make them above the law or a good & decent person and certainly does not mean they cannot be criticised!

Mollygo Wed 30-Mar-22 14:22:26

have I misunderstood your post? Yes.

Anniebach Wed 30-Mar-22 14:28:33

Yes PECS in no way was I defending Johnson, just a reminder
to grany that when we have a vote we can have a PM without
morals or the ability to speak the truth as we now have.
