I am 70. chronically but not mentally. If anyone calls me elderly I will spit, shout and swear (boy can I swear) I weigh 8 stone 12lbs. Wear jeans, crocs, and trainers. I trim my own hedge, paint my own house, drink wine by the bucketful. I drive long distances and listen to rock music. Love horror films, the gorier the better. Laughed my way through Friday 13th. I thought elderly people wore twin sets and pearls (I would rather die!) or have blue rinses. My hair is brown, totally natural and never been died. I want to travel the world, write a book and have abundant sex. So as said fxck off anyone who dares call my elderly!!!!

And your point is OP?........I think it’s very normal for older people to look younger these days, but well done anyway. ?

FannyCornforth Mon 02-May-22 15:33:18

A crocodile roll?
And keep it snappy!

Blossoming classic crocs aren’t backless, they have a strap at the rear

Glorianny Mon 02-May-22 15:34:16

She wears crocs and trainers???? At the same time?
Please will someone tell me is "trim my own hedge" a euphemism?. I'm going to sit here clutching my pearls until someone explains.

Polly73 Mon 02-May-22 15:34:48

“Classic crocs”? Isn’t that an oxymoron?

volver Mon 02-May-22 15:35:10

Is a crocodile roll the same as a crocodile rock?

Perhaps the OP is Brazilian?

MOnica 'Being comfortable in my own skin'. You have hit the nail on the (undyed) head. I am the same as you and I wear pearls if I want to. Never owned a pair of crocs but wear trainers when appropriate. Jeans often. Pretty dresses are a must in summer. Also pretty sandals /shoes. I run my own home and care for my garden. As my 17 year old granddaughter said, I'm not old in my head. And that's what counts. The OP is so much younger. I don't understand why she/he feels it's necessary to sound off in such an aggressive manner.

MissAdventure Mon 02-May-22 15:42:59

I think "I trim my own hedge" is a line from "I am what I am!"

Aldom Mon 02-May-22 15:44:27

Correction : same age as you.

I thought the post was amusing, not obnoxious but each to their own

muse Mon 02-May-22 15:57:52

Each to our own Hink2.

I'm 72 but can't boast of being 8 st 12 lbs. That would be rather stupid of me as I'm just over 6' in height.
Footwear ranges from wellies to walking boots with any comfy shoes in between (excluded crocs ? ) as most of my time is spent outdoors. My fashion sense is ageless and I love a bit of folk but well into rock (hence my user name ? ).

Much of what you do at 70 Hink2, is loved by many I know that are over that age. You're lucky not to have failing joints and hair still its original colour.

From the way you describe yourself, why would anyone think you are elderly and say so? The only time I mention my age, is when filling in forms. I don't every recall anyone using that term to me.

Oh Dear! Elderly and foreign! That explains a lot.

... bit of a truculent and defensive post there!

"Elderly" is just a word - to a describe a demographic. I don't think it's designed as an insult.

And no-one, as far as I know, demands that older / elderly people conform to a certain style of dress, type of entertainment, or mode of conduct... except perhaps for that of showing a modicum of maturity.

... you sound like my son. When he was 14.

Now go upstairs and tidy your bedroom before dinner...

Reminds me of the time I told my neighbour I was going to put outdoor lights in my Pyracanthus bush, only I forgot to say Pyracanthus blushblush

Good luck to you I hope you are happy. I certainly like the wine I swear like a trooper especially when in a temper. I don't dye my hair and when arthritis allows I can cut trees and decorate but in sturdy shoes not crocs.
However I can't wear pierced earrings anymore I just bought a pair of clip on pearls I guess they will have to been worn with my pearls. Anyone who knows me wouldn't call me elderly not to my anyway.

Redhead56 Mon 02-May-22 16:15:57

Not to my face!

LuckyFour Mon 02-May-22 16:22:47

You seem a little self obsessed Hink2. Ok so you don't feel old, but are you a nice person. I have a friend like you, she never stops talking about herself. What sort of a friend are you, is anyone ever good enough for you.
We all wear jeans these days no matter our age but I suspect you only have eyes for yourself Hink2.

LuckyFour Mon 02-May-22 16:28:53

Also, isn't swearing very old fashioned these. Haven't heard anyone swear seriously for years.

MissAdventure Mon 02-May-22 16:31:37

Come back and have a proper chat, Hink2.
I think you'd enjoy it here. smile

I did the other week when I had severe sciatica.
I surprised you didn't hear me, Luckyfour!

I'm elderly fortunately, if I'd had this face and body when I was young I'd have been quite depressed but I'm actually reasonably content with how I look. This thread has made me smile though. I think we should have a thread showing our most outrageous shoes, especially for the over 70's, mine wouldn't be crocs!

Can't say I thought it was obnoxious. Just a bit weird. Especially since the op is doing everything most other of all ages people are doing - enjoying what they've always enjoyed, wearing comfy shoes and clothes, reading, travelling if they want to, drinking wine. Although I don't know anyone under the age of 50 who wears Crocs except for gardening. Some of the responses did make me laugh though. Maybe the post was the result of the buckets of wine?
