Synonyms for ‘Fat’ that aren’t Cringeworthy…?

Hello! smile
I am fat.

But I do not like saying ‘I am fat’.

But neither do I like ‘curvaceous’ (probably the best of a bad bunch); ‘cuddly’ (bleugh); ‘curvalicious’ (give me strength); or the word de joure ‘thick’ (confused)

Can you think of any acceptable, non-cringe words for not being slender? Because I can’t

Thank you!

In a tv interview, a reporter was talking to a chap whose house had gone on fire, he said he had to pull his wife out of a window to escape the flames.”She’s a heavy girl”, he said over and over! I often wonder if she has forgiven him for telling the entire country his wife is a heavy girl,

god that's funny grin

Definitely 'voluptuous' - it sounds like a sexy complement, so enjoy using it to describe yourself.

As long as a person is describing herself the choice is surely hers.

Stout, well-built, generously proportioned, ample, plump, or as Mma Ramotswe of The Ladies' No. 1 Detective Agency says of herself "a traditionally built lady".

Yes, that’s it; I’m trying to find a word to describe me.
I am fat; but to me, fat makes me think ‘flabby’, and I’m not.

Musicgirl no, I’m not tall. I’m extremely average, 5’4 I think

Don’t worry about repeating things. - it always happens.

Voluptuous is definitely very popular.
I might just go for it. Go the full Nigella.
Pass me the spoon MissAdventure! ?

‘I’m a heavy girl’
That’s probably more like it!

This is a phrase from a Victoria Wood joke, I can’t remember the the rest of it, but I often use it in relation to various situations and myself :

‘Two big lads and a wheelbarrow’

I don’t have a problem describing myself as fat. I prefer this to any of the euphemisms mentioned above, which I think are all super cringe-making and some twee. For example, I’d only use ‘Rubensesque’ about myself in mimed inverted commas, as a joke when talking to friends.
I have also used the factual ‘big’ or ‘large’. If discussing clothes, plus size seems a clear and accurate description.

A bit off point, as usual, but in America clothes for overweight youths are described as 'husky'. Somehow, I find that very funny.?

Is it?
That’s really mad!

A friend of mine used to say “plumptious”:

Alioop Fri 13-May-22 15:01:26

Maybe curvaceous or rubenesque

Knittynatter Fri 13-May-22 15:19:23

I’m ‘bigger than the average bear’
But then my offspring always refer to me as Mother Bear ??

Pearl30 Fri 13-May-22 15:27:04

Shapely? well proportioned?

Speldnan Fri 13-May-22 15:50:26

In the health farm. “Clench your buttocks”…..” it’d take two strong lads and a wheelbarrow to clench her buttocks”

One of Victoria’s all time best .

Kryptonite Fri 13-May-22 16:03:12

My mother's overweight best friend was known by us as 'her biggest friend'. Other terms I remember: 'plenty to grab hold of' and 'there's more of me to love'.

MissAdventure Fri 13-May-22 16:04:36

Ooh! Matron!

Kryptonite Fri 13-May-22 16:07:50

Ma Larkin. How beautiful was she.

minxie Fri 13-May-22 16:08:53

Our bodies are covered in subcutaneous fat, and it’s the direct terminology. It’s just society has decided it’s an offensive word.
My partner calls me his snorkus porkus and I weigh 126lbs. If I put some weight on in the winter. I call it my winter duvet

AGAA4 Fri 13-May-22 16:09:45

You could describe yourself as 'traditionally built' as does the Mwa from Number one ladies detective agency.
