Virtual cruise Lyon to Avignon and Arles

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 12:04:06

ixion and GSM. Did someone say Enigma machine? As we are in Imitation mode is Matthew Goode onboard dressed as skipper? Or maybe Charles Dance in his Jewel in the Crown heyday?

FannyCornforth Sun 12-Jun-22 12:10:42

Ixion, your last post really made me laugh grin
Which reminds me, the bar’s open…

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Jun-22 12:11:04

I have totally lost the plot. Sorry, simulation. And I still have no idea what the Arch thing was about. I don’t think I’m good at suspending my disbelief. Thought this was going to be a leisurely cruise. I suspect there may be a mutiny.

ixion Sun 12-Jun-22 12:13:11

There will be, unless that length of red rubber tubing is thrown overboard.

FannyCornforth Sun 12-Jun-22 12:17:32

SD I have given your request for links considerable thought.

I have come to the conclusion that you (*SD*) are allowed to post just three links per day.

The idea being that you will be happy sharing your ‘finds’ with the rest of the party; and it will make you even more discerning in your choice of material.

Does everyone else agree with this arrangement?

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 12:22:06

FannyC I missed last night's festivities as I was drinking Cinzano with sailors in Marseille. What I need is coffee and to lie in the shade with a trashy novel. Can you keep the noise down please?

Re links. I'd rather have none (as I thought we had agreed to) as it feels like I’m having a guidebook waved under my nose telling me what to see and do and listen to but I guess I can ignore them.

Marydoll Sun 12-Jun-22 12:25:26

I have totally lost the plot. I thought this was meant to bee fun cruise.
It seems the thread ship has lost its bearings. I am jumping ship and making my escape on an inflatible dinghy.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Jun-22 12:27:01

I find links very aggravating.
ixion, are you confusing an enigma machine (to decode SD’s arch thing) with an enema machine??

StarDreamer Sun 12-Jun-22 12:27:03

But I have ready a link to a video of the steam railway that is one of the shore excursions.

Three per day is a good idea. SOIT!

Like the constraint of finding rhymes for a poem can produce a better poem.

StarDreamer Sun 12-Jun-22 12:29:21

[arch]A maximum of three links per day and those links only to videos[/arch]

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Jun-22 12:30:35

Why must we have a link to something that, if we are so inclined (i.e. remotely interested), we can look up for ourselves?
I may need to ask if there’s space in that dinghy Marydoll.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Jun-22 12:31:49

More arches! ?

Joseanne Sun 12-Jun-22 12:34:50

Who has put the kibosh on photos loading now?
I seem unable to post my choice of plats chauds for tonight's dinner, let alone my Hermès scarf. Does GNHQ operate in France? I may be a while.

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 12:35:51

No no no! Please don't jump ship MaryDoll. The voyage was chosen based on you photo of Lyon. I was hoping you would tell us something of your time there.

Did ixion say she was joining for one night only for the food? I hope she doesn't think she has to work her passage by pumping out the bilges.

Again, no links please.

FannyCornforth Sun 12-Jun-22 12:36:11

In reality I’ve got lots to do today, so I won’t be seeing much of you until later.
Please try not to fall out (with each other and the dinghy!) smile

Some of the links to videos have taken quite a bit of searching to find and then I evaluate what is available and make a choice.

People can do their own search if they choose to do so, and ignore any link I post if they choose to do so.

But if the simulation to work well, there needs to be easy to follow included links too.

Joseanne Sun 12-Jun-22 12:39:39

For vegetarians

Marydoll Sun 12-Jun-22 12:41:49

Now the dinghy has a puncture, blast and double blast. I may be forced to remain on board.

I am frantically searching for some of my photos of the Odeon in Lyons. I may appear for dinner, but only if it is tasty and none of the tradional Lyonaise stuff. I didn't really fancy it at all.

Joseanne Sun 12-Jun-22 12:43:37

So that is stuffed mushrooms with beetroot cream and tuiles. The latter component inspired by Lyon lace.

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 12:43:58

Glad you are staying MaryDoll.

That looks yummy Joseanne. What are the tuiles (is that the word?) made from?

StarDreamer Sun 12-Jun-22 12:44:28

More arches! ?

No, the same one arch, opened again, a change to the rules of the simulation made, the arch closed using [/arch]

CaravanSerai Sun 12-Jun-22 12:44:50

Crossed posts. Now I know they are tuiles.

Joseanne Sun 12-Jun-22 12:46:35

How do you fancy poulet de bresse Marydoll with mushrooms in a silky sauce as a nod to Lyon's silk industry?

Marydoll Sun 12-Jun-22 13:11:44

Parfait! Merci, Joseanne

As part of the course, funded by the British Council, we were treated, to fantastic French cooking.
Whilst eating dinner, we were already planning what to have the following evening.
However, one evening, after getting hopelessly lost, because we hadn't been listening to our instructions, blush we went to a traditional bouchon and I just didn't enjoy the food. On the plus side, the owner presented us all with a red rose, purchased from a flower seller, who came into the restaurant.
