‘Evening All’

Hello kitcheners. Boy, it’s been hot today hasn’t it?

Thank you for the ‘welcome back’ soops. It means a lot. I felt a bit low about the whole debacle to be honest.

My stepfather joined us for Sunday dinner this afternoon and enjoyed a pint in the bar downstairs first. Plans were drawn up for a visit up to Plockton in Wester Ross at the end of summer. He will actually celebrate his 90th birthday up there and his eyes lit up chatting about past times in his village. It was interesting listening to his stories. How times have changed!

So - come early October there will be a ‘Last of the Summer Wine on Tour’ visit. He will be 90, my uncle just 80 and Himself 70.

Which one will be Compo I wonder? ?

Shower number two and in my jammies. It has been very hot for central Scotland too, Urms. 26° is way too hot for my northern blood. Dd invited me round for fun in the garden. It was fun but I'm suffering a bit now. It has been lovely to see the sun and feel heat though. Have a good night kitcheners. Early bed for me.

brook2704 Sun 10-Jul-22 20:12:23

What a beautiful DGD you have kitty thanks for sharing the picture
A real scorcher here in Inverness, about 25º and wall to wall sunshine. We’ve had DGS here all day, we went to the local crazy golf this morning ( he just loves it ) and has become a regular there now. Then a picnic lunch and then back to watch the tennis. He’s off on his cub camp tomorrow so I was trying to get him in bed for 8pm - he’s in bed now but not asleep. He could definitely win a trophy for negotiation skills, especially over bedtimes and screen time!
Hoping your DGDs have a lovely time gillgran Disneyland must be so magical at those ages!
Take care soop so pleased there wasn’t any more damage done and hope your hand isn’t too painful
You’ve both been busy again Jax and grandmabatty ?
The road trip sounds good Urms something for everyone to look forward to

SueDonim Sun 10-Jul-22 20:25:23

Welcome back, Urms. You really must learn to behave! grin

I’m sorry for your fall, Soop. flowers

Kitty, what a lovely photo! ❤️ Of course our GC get all their good points from we grans. The maybe less desirable points are clearly the Grandads’ fault! grin

Thank you for the good wishes. I’m on the mend, I think. Temperature coming down and I’ve hung up some laundry to dry today. Still got a painful throat, cough and totally bunged up nose. I must say, I am blooming glad I’ve had the vaccines. I wouldn’t like this illness without the benefit of some protection. My DD’s little troup also seem to be improving- let’s hope we can say bye-bye to germs for a bit!

My mum is still in hospital and will be for a while until her mobility improves and her house can be adjusted for her. A friend has been in today and told me that it’s really pretty dirty. I do have someone going in next week to clean but I think there’s an ongoing problem that needs to be sorted out.

In good news, my son and family are on their way to the UK from America, for the first time in nearly four years. They won’t be able to stay with us, as we’re between houses, but (Covid-free) plans will be made for meeting up. smile

Time for another rest before bedtime! TOYA. Xx

Urms I guess you’ll be Norah Batty then?

Blossoming Sun 10-Jul-22 22:06:46

We missed you Urms, I can’t imagine what you did to deserve the norty step, but I guess we mustn’t talk about it! I love Plockton, spent a lot of time there when I was younger. I expect it’s changed quite a bit now.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend SueD. It sounds like your mum may have been struggling to cope for some time, hope something can be put in place.
I had a lovely walk to the river, it’s been so hot here all day but there’s always a breeze by the water. Goodnight all, sleep well.

Pittcity Mon 11-Jul-22 08:37:44

I'm moving into the kitchen for the next couple of days as it's much cooler than the above 30° that we're getting here in East Anglia.
I bring Magnums for all.

Blossoming Mon 11-Jul-22 09:45:38

Thank you, Magnums are always welcome Pittcity! It’s not going to hit 30° here, but it’s still much hotter than usual. I’ve taken my hayfever tablet, just waiting for the sneezing to stop grin

Dogsmakemesmile Mon 11-Jul-22 10:39:39

Take care today soop. I know the perils of falling...Leave your key under the mat and I'll pop in to do any essential/urgent chores for you!
A bit cooler today but certainly another scorcher. Ddog banned from garden as does not understand need to stay in shade. Currently flat out in hall which is coolest place in the house.
Absolutely nothing planned bar elevenses. Best wishes to all

Blossoming Mon 11-Jul-22 14:29:01

Very warm now. My iPad is slowly but surely giving up the ghost, it’s had a hard life! I’m now using a new one. I have been transferring everything across over the weekend but I wanted to leave banking until today, in case I needed to go into the branch. It’s all sorted now, phew!

After that was done I folded up and put away the newly washed t-shirts. Despite a really good clear out a year ago I still have far too many clothes!

Now feeling nauseous again, sitting in a recliner with a bottle of water. Hope you are all managing to keep cool.

Spec1alk Mon 11-Jul-22 15:37:00

Soop, could you clear a space in the pantry? I’m bringing 12 jars of raspberry jam.

brook2704 Mon 11-Jul-22 16:09:03

It’s about 24º here in Inverness but cloudy and not even a gentle breeze … I’ve given up pottering in the garden and come in for a cup of tea
Thank you for the jam Spec1alk and welcome to the kitchen. The jam will be just perfect with some scones for afternoon tea on the terrace
Hope everyone is managing to keep cool ?

Yiayia4 Mon 11-Jul-22 16:09:54

Welcome Speclalk the jam sounds lovely.

Love the sun but its 34° here in leafy Surrey, far too hot to do anything.Missing the Ionian sea breeze.
For dinner we’re having smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and salad very easy.No new news from Australia a good sign maybe,DH will ring early tomorrow morning for an update.

No more falls please Soop please take care.
Enjoy your evening everyone stay cool.

soop Mon 11-Jul-22 17:19:30

A very warm welcome Speclalk there is an entire shelf empty and waiting for your 12 jars of raspberry jam. Us lot will congregate on the kitchen terrace extension. Thank you for the suggestion, brook. I may also treat myself to an enormous dollop on a bowl full of creamy rice pudding this evening. Most generous of you. flowers

Yia Your dinner dish has inspired us to do likewise tomorrow night. MrS has his regular Oban hospital appointment with the blood specialist tomorrow. He asked me what we could have for our supper that doesn't need a lot of faffin' in the kitchen.

Pittcity The kitchen is deliciously cool. We all have the benefit of top of the range air conditioning. Magnums all round. grin

Sue You sound much brighter. I imagine that when you do meet with your son and family you will be on cloud nine, and your spirits will be completely restored.

After the fall, my left hand is bruised and swollen. Thankfully, I'm right handed. Even very simple tasks (like hooking my bra) are just a tad bothersome right now.

Sweetie Pie (feral cat) visited at breakfast time and feasted on four pouches of prime cat food. She also returned after lunch and polished off a further three pouches. We are lucky because a couple of villagers have donated two carrier bags full of cat food that their own cats don't fancy. hmm Our cat is cannier than most. wink

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 11-Jul-22 17:20:44

I’m at Vienna airport waiting for my flight home. Apparently there’s a heatwave in England! My daughter has gone to Salzburg for a few days so I’m travelling alone. I left it too late to have a slice of sachertorte. I’m having marble cake instead as the airport cafe has run out.

soop Mon 11-Jul-22 17:23:14

We have a full day tomorrow. However, I shall pop in before we take the long and winding road to Oban.

My love to you all. Stay safe and do not exert yourselves unduly. smile moon

Urmstongran Mon 11-Jul-22 17:23:20

Safe journey home LLFL. ?

soop Mon 11-Jul-22 17:24:45

Ladyleftfieldlover Wishing you a pleasant flight. sunshine

soop Mon 11-Jul-22 17:25:23

Urms Snap! grin

kittylester Mon 11-Jul-22 17:39:34

Rather than let that jam go begging I have brought scones, butter and oodles of clotted cream. Shall I test them all out? Thank you speclalk

I was in a lovely residential home today helping deliver a course. When the course was finished the home treated us to the most delicious lunch with cream scones for pudding. I was about to book a room grin until someone told me the cost was £1700 per week - even I couldn't manage that many scones.

Hope tomorrow goes well soop.

Nannytopsy Mon 11-Jul-22 18:21:09

? Kitty. It’s a bit scary though.

Urmstongran Mon 11-Jul-22 19:26:28

‘Evening All’

Goodness I’m melting! It’s SO humid isn’t it? I can cope in Spain (by the sea) with higher temperatures than what we’re experiencing here at present! I’ve had 2 showers already with nice cool water on my scalp. At present I’m wearing a vest tee and a pair of soft baggy shorts. Sartorially challenged - yep, that’d be me.
?

Grandmabatty Mon 11-Jul-22 19:37:10

Good evening Kitcheners. I agree about the humidity*Urms*. It's been unpleasant. I had an unexpected visit from dd and the boys today. It was lovely to see them. We played outside when dgs2 went for a nap. Dgs1 is coming back tomorrow for a day with Grandma. I love having him here. I'm sure when he's older, he won't want to spend as much time with me so I'm making the most of it. Chicken and ham salad for dinner, followed by berries, ice cream and cream. A quiet evening ahead. Take care all

Jaxjacky Mon 11-Jul-22 19:46:42

Too humid, I agree Urms we had mid 30’s even 40 in SW France, it was manageable.
Bedding washed, bed made, greenhouse watered, twice today and not much else done.
Managed to catch the chimes earlier!
Have a good evening all x
