Yesterday afternoon, we travelled inland from Cannes to Grasse to visit the combined Fragonard Perfume Museum, Provençal Museum of Costume and Jewellery and the John-Honoré Fragonard Museum of Art.
Fans of the Great British Sewing Bee spotted Esme Young examining this jacket, an example of a caracos, popular from the mid-18c to early-19c. Lots of challenges there for Annie, Brogan, Debra and Man Yee in this week’s final. We wish them all luck.
Tomorrow, we depart for Antibes Juan-Les-Pins made famous in Peter Sarstedt’s Where Do You Go to My Lovely.

Other one up with The Lark although it was hard to get much sleep at all with all the racket from the Gin Hokum school and ixion and Grohl dancing through the night. The galley’s a mess. A Pablo Picasso day for me at the Grimaldi Castle which became his art studio, now the Picasso Museum. He left the city no fewer than 23 paintings and 44 drawings; among them, the La joie de vivre (opposite). Neither the art nor the man to everyone's taste but interesting work to puzzle over. Had a lively lovely morning, a little promenade in the sunshine mingling with the beautiful people found me on the terrace of the old Bastion de St Jaume at Port Vauban.
Such a feast for the eyes of sculpture lovers.
Not yer classical eyefuls today but this lovely chappie looking out to sea. If you look closely, you will see that he is constructed entirely of aluminium letters.
It is by the sculptor Jaume Plensa (no links, Google him when you have a few minutes).
He seemed strangely familiar- then it came to me ?.
I saw his work in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park years back.
I am attaching a couple of his Yorkshire works which particularly impressed me.
