Why report so much ?

I am bemused by the amount of times GNetters seem to “report” other members for things which are frankly none of their business. I guess they were school snitches …
The result is the loss of longstanding members of GN through either suspension or their resignation (often due to some perceived “ganging up” aka. Disagreeing with other posters. )

Well done !

I have read the words quoted, and do not like what I read, jaxjacky. Words quoted are words which have been posted.

I would assume, Miss Adventure, that 'gnhq' means GransNet headquarters? I would think that people do have the power to cancel others by way of reports, which is what this thread is about, is it not?

Having lived under the fear of fascist rule, I understand very well the link made between the words quoted and the rule of the Taliban.

You mention having lived under fascist rule.

Yet you assumed that I was guilty based on an accusation.

That is not how it is supposed to work in this country.

I expect Maximillian isn't aware of all the nuances of the site, seeing as he is new. smile

*Stardreamer*, did you suggest I am a bully. Please reply!

I will certainly to try to reply.

Could you say which post or posts to which you refer please?

A page number and a timestamp would be helpful please.

It seems to me very improper to report a post but not have the courage to say openly that you have done so, the courage of your convictions. Sneaking to the teacher behind someone's back is what children do. In an adult it is traitorous, as dogsmother said.

No.

If a pupil in school is the victim of nastiness by someone who is always well-behaved when the teacher is around but is nasty when the teacher is not there, it right, proper and correct for another pupil to quietly and privately inform the teacher of the situation.

The badness is in the bullying itself, not in the reporting of it to the proper authority. That does not mean that the teacher should punish the person against whom the allegation is made just because the allegation has been made, but the teacher should at some time return to the classroom unexpectedly and catch the bully in the act.

SD, it was the use of the word grassing I objected to.
As a retired teacher and a member of the management team, I have a pretty good grasp of how to deal with bullying and the consequences of it.
What experience do you have?.

Trying to stop being bullied and the bully telling me I was a grass.

StarDreamer, I referred to children but this thread is about the behaviour of adults who should have the courage to be open with their peers if they report somebody. Do you believe it is acceptable for adults to report a fellow poster and not say they have done that, and why they have done that? I do not think it is honourable behaviour

Not honourable at all. Sneaky is how I would describe it. But then the world has plenty of sneaks around, sadly and I suppose, unless they change the rules, we just have to live with it. I hadn’t particularly noticed who was not around, though, until someone mentioned it.

Thank you for that.

But it was you who introduced the scenario and asked me to comment. I thought it was a hypothetical scenario that you had devised. You omitted to say it was real. I would not have commented if I had known it was real.

StarDreamer
One of us is very confused here, and it’s not me. I certainly never introduced the scenario.

I wouldn't get drawn into an argument, stardreamer, if I was you, because these things never end well.

Marydoll Wed 06-Jul-22 10:11:13

SD, I was responding to your rather naive suggestion of how a teacher should deal with bullying. As I suspect, you were never a teacher, so you will find it difficult to see from that perspective.

I am sorry that you were bullied at school. However, I'm sure some of us on here were also bullied at school, me included.
The difference is, we don't see bullying every time someone disagrees with us.

I feel sad that you cannot enjoy the lighter side of GN. You are missing so much.

MissAdventure Wed 06-Jul-22 10:12:21

stardreamer has been enjoying the lighter side, recently.
Wonder why that is???,

You did introduce the scenario in the thread about Delivery Drivers in 2021.

You asked me to comment on it.

I thought it was a hypothetical scenario that you had made up.

Do you really consider that I, as a male, should be enjoying, for example, the post about a statue that is on page 30 of the thread about the virtual cruise from Lyon?

I don't see bullying every time someone disagrees with me.

But when I was accused of base motives when I tried to support and protect a lady who had protected me and for whose kindness in doing so I will always remember and value, then it was grossly unfair bullying.

DillytheGardener Wed 06-Jul-22 10:22:32

I have only reported one spam post, I wouldn’t report posts that are in opposition to my own ideas. If I were to do that I’d have to report my own husband to someone as I disagree with most of his opinions these days?

MissAdventure Wed 06-Jul-22 10:23:33

You are being set up to fail, stardreamer.
Most unpleasant.

CatsCatsCats Wed 06-Jul-22 10:26:52

I do hope she's well and back on the forums soon (even though her and my opinions are far apart smile).

StarDreamer, the guilt lay in the quoted words. I have read those words for myself and saw that you posted them. I am not intending to bully you by saying this, but stating a fact. I was very disappointed by what I read. I have been a British citizen for a long time and know how things are supposed to work in this country

Well, please quote where I posted them with a thread, page number and timestamp so that we can all assess what I wrote in the context that I wrote it.

If I am considered wrong for what I wrote in the whole context of what I wrote, then fine, but not please on the basis of quotes and comments upon them.

I,would expect whitewave to be about, considering the resignations and political climate.
It's a bit concerning, but hopefully she's just resting.

Quite possibly.

But allegations have been made, I did not get them banned, it needs clearing up.
