Why report so much ?

I am bemused by the amount of times GNetters seem to “report” other members for things which are frankly none of their business. I guess they were school snitches …
The result is the loss of longstanding members of GN through either suspension or their resignation (often due to some perceived “ganging up” aka. Disagreeing with other posters. )

Well done !

I've seen actual GN bullying where a few people make apparently nonsensical posts which are intended to ridicule someone.
In my opinion, people who do that are nastier than 'sneaks' who report.

Agree FarNorth. I also think it's incredibly childish for an adult group. Surely we're too old for that?

Hi I've just joined gn today and this is my first post. I feel as though I've joined a Primary School playground at its absolute worst. Where is the sharing of wisdom and wit that is stated in the gn joining blurb? Or are all of the previous comments on here meant to be read as being wise and witty and I've misread the tone?

Elizabeth27 Wed 06-Jul-22 11:41:40

I have now noticed who is missing from this thread, for some unknown reason she took an instant dislike to SD and was negative and downright rude when he commented on anything.

I assume she has gathered her coven and they have been banned, I do hope it is for good this time, she keeps being allowed back yet cannot control herself.

ExDancer Wed 06-Jul-22 11:46:53

I'm not surprised Baggytrzzas is confused.
She's right

Welcome! You have joined the wrong thread if you want words of wisdom. This one has descended into chaos. It happens sometimes. Start with a more gentle thread, there are plenty of them.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of it all, there is no need to be unpleasant. She has gathered her coven is quite offensive in my book.
I won't report it, as a personal attack on someone, who may not be able to respond, because I want others to see how unpleasant this thread has become.

Just remember, a lot goes on behind the scenes, which many of us are not privy to. We never really get to know the whole story and there are always two sides.

annsixty Wed 06-Jul-22 12:10:31

A lot does go on behind the scenes, that is very true.
I won’t say anymore it would get me banned but it has been going on for a very long time.

'Ganging up' isn't always 'disagreeing with other posters, Lucca, sometimes it is exactly like a gaggle of school children targeting a particular person. I have reported it on occasion and I make no apology for doing it. We're supposed to be mature adults, not playground bullies.

If people don't like a poster follow Calendargirl's example and pass them by.

Apart from that, I have no idea which 'longstanding members' have been 'lost' because I don't stray far from one forum...

Yes I have reported posters who are obviously ganging up. It's nasty and childish and people on here should know better.

I have also reported a particular poster who can be really spiteful or hurtful to anyone who challenges them. People like that ruin forums like this one.

FarNorth Wed 06-Jul-22 12:12:15

What sort of thing annsixty?

annsixty Wed 06-Jul-22 12:13:30

And hypocrisy which I have met in PM’s when the poster is oh so sweetness and light on the threads.
That is my “three’pennorth” on this subject and this thread.

I have only reported one spam post, I wouldn’t report posts that are in opposition to my own ideas. If I were to do that I’d have to report my own husband to someone as I disagree with most of his opinions these days?

grin me too!

Iam64 Wed 06-Jul-22 12:25:00

I’m not on top of gransnet - lots to do at home

It seems to me possible urmston and another regular are not able to post or take pm’s. My impression is someone Is game
Playing. I’ve seen this before. It’s rare but it happens - report buttonse pinging, provocative posts responded to, ping anithrr report and a regular suspended
I never agree with my n.w neighbour’s politics, she doesn’t agree with mine. But
I hope we respect each other
I’ve reported very rarely and always indicated as much on the thread. It’s been racism and once the bullying by one
Poster.

Vintagejazz Wed 06-Jul-22 12:25:29

There are ways of disagreeing with people. Most posters do it in a way that is respectful and polite. Some do it in a way that is rude and antagonistic.

dragonfly46 Wed 06-Jul-22 12:25:40

Wow Ann I am really sorry to hear that - I cannot imagine that you would cause offence to anyone.
I am neutral in all this but do not condone any ganging up on other posters especially behind the scenes as it were.

Welcome Baggytrazzas. Please look at the list of Forums and read some of the others threads. Many enjoy the Good morning thread. Another friendly thread is Soop's Kitchen.
I hope you will find something to interest you and that you will in time enjoy Gransnet. smile

eazybee Wed 06-Jul-22 12:48:30

Elizabeth 27, I noticed recent sharp-tongued comments targeted at a particular poster for no apparent reason, and wondered why.

GagaJo Wed 06-Jul-22 12:59:29

I also agree Baggytrazzas. But I think like any social sphere, there are a range of types. There are lots of lovely people on here. Stick to them

kittylester Wed 06-Jul-22 13:14:53

SD, hmm.

Elizabeth could you please tell those of us who are not as on the ball as you exactly who the specific poster is.

Charleygirl5 Wed 06-Jul-22 13:25:19

Elizabeth27 that was unnecessarily rude, especially saying she has gathered her coven. I agree with Marydoll and what you have written should not be banned, it should stay for all to read.

Did you not give a thought to sickness, holiday or spending time with her family? She may also personally be wanting some "time out" from GN before she joins the fray again. Not everybody has been banned just because you have not seen or heard from them.

Purplepixie Wed 06-Jul-22 13:27:05

Never had the need to report anything.

nanna8 Wed 06-Jul-22 13:32:23

Me neither. Just avoid anything/ anyone nasty, plenty of other fish in the sea, so to speak

Doodledog Wed 06-Jul-22 13:36:08

I have no idea what's going on, but would like to say to those who comment that they stay away from politics threads because they 'get nasty' that they are often robust, but on the whole people are up front with what they say to one another. Posters are only human, and tempers get frayed at times, but that tends to work 'both ways' and a group of people can be on one 'side' in some arguments but disagree on others.

I don't usually go on 'chat' or 'royal family' threads, but whilst you might expect them to be the least contentious, they seem to be where people fall out with one another the most.

lixy Wed 06-Jul-22 13:49:56

Coincidentally I have just made my first 'report' - someone on the migraine thread talking about male fertility - clearly some kind of sales pitch.
There are many disagreements on GN and some reach the edge of my understanding of how to communicate with another body - I tend to stick up for the person under attack if I can rather than 'reporting'.

Lucca Wed 06-Jul-22 13:54:45

Someone upthread asked me to be specific. Sorry I already said no to that. In any case I believe there may be a few in this case.
I abide by my opinion though
SD I never said you reported by the way

kircubbin2000 Wed 06-Jul-22 14:02:39

I wonder what this thread is about. ?
