I report when someone goes beyond the line of acceptability. And I'm proud to do it and "own up" to it. When the post gets deleted 5 minutes later because its so blooming offensive, I feel justified.
Something you find offensive, and beyond the line of your acceptability. Acting as judge and jury as usual? You seem to think you have an automatic right to post but others don't. It really isn't up to you to act as the thread police, especially when you have chastised others for doing just that.
You don't seem to understand how this works.
We report. GNHQ decide if they want to delete. If I (or anyone) was reporting maliciously, GNHQ would no doubt sanction me.
Anybody who allows deliberately nasty, personal attacks to stand isn't being "fair" to the poster. They are being cowardly and ignoring bullying.
But if you are determined to be offended and to blame me for that, there's not much I can do about that. ?
Or you are determined to offend.
When I first joined Gransnet. I got into a heated debate (can’t remember what it was about) and it was pointed out to me by another poster that my comment could be taken as a personal attack. I was unfamiliar with GN battlefields and thought I was just standing up for myself.
I apologised, the other poster accepted it and we all moved on.
Reporting should surely be a last resort when there is an obvious threat of bullying? HQ don’t always get it right and often leave reported posts to stand. Sometimes they zap posts which seem harmless.
Surely we can at least attempt to behave like grown ups and rise above the temptation to report posts that annoy/upset us?

Or you are determined to offend.
If I was determined to offend, I might post that another group of posters hated - actually hated - 50% of the population because they had a different constitutional opinion to mine. Or I might say that a poster spends time on GN because they are sad and have no life. Or maybe that other posters were slavering maliciously at the thought of posting on a thread they wanted deleted.
On the other hand, I might realise that there are things you shouldn't be saying about other people in a public forum, and that GNHQ sets the rules.
We can discuss which option is behaving like an adult, if you like.
Merlot post is a fair observation.
Will it make a difference? Unfortunately its unlikely.
Do as I say not as I do seems to be the preferred option for some on GN.
I noticed there were several deleted posts before mine was reported but I have no idea what the content was as they had already been deleted before I had chance to read them. Obviously there had been a lot of offensive comments. I’ll leave it there
Its certainly not going to make a difference to me if you think we should just rise above everything. ?
People make posts here that, if they made those comments in a public place, would result in them being asked to leave the building for inappropriate behaviour.
If anybody ever wants to report me, they can. I've been deleted a few times and I take it as GN's decision because this is their site.
There are rules about posting on GN. Live by the rules. Aren't we grown up enough to do that?

Yeah, I think someone was reported for doing a character assassination on me and making very insulting comments about another GN member who is generally thought by everyone to be one of the "good guys". It wasn't me who reported.

Not sure why you’ve aimed that at me. You had several comments deleted so it was you who was being reported obviously. As for character assassination I find it happens all the time. I’d prefer to have it out rather than go reporting but hey, we’re all different.
Not sure why you’ve aimed that at me.
Because you were wondering about the earlier deletions and I had some information about it? That's how conversations work. ?
Regarding the reason for deletions, it seems I was right then. You really don't understand how this works. ?

I would never report you volver. I think we should all be seen in our true colours and let other people decide what they think of us, our opinions, and the way we talk to others.
I could write things about you though Chestnut that were unacceptable. Then other posters could come along and say that I was right, and gang up on you. You might be OK with that but that's not the sign of a sensible society, its like Primary 2. I could compare you to an animal, as was done to somebody else, earlier on this thread. We can't just tut-tut and leave it be.
I think saying posters have no life or a sad life is appalling and shows no understanding of how hard “life” is for some people.
Thank you Lucca I am one whom it seems deserves mocking,
You don’t Annie
Lucca

It is Lucca
You certainly do not, Anniebach
I think some posters have been on GN for many years, formed relationships (and by that I do not mean cliques) and helped one another through troubled times.
Others who are relatively new may not know some people's backgrounds and may not be able to understand how throwaway comments such as "Get a life" or "You must lead a sad life to think that" might hurt.
Other people may not share their troubles on GN but still have their own troubles.
I'm not saying posts should be sugary sweet, we need robust debate, but perhaps we need to be more mindful of others' feelings.

Don’t understand the crying with laughter emoji. Have you said something funny?
You haven’t informed me of the reason why several of your posts were deleted. In fact you haven’t informed me of anything and I know exactly how ‘this’ works.
Now, let’s get back to the OP. Anyone else have an opinion on Harry’s speech?
Post references deleted post Talk guidelines.
I decided to watch it and struggled through. It was very dreary although he made his points quite well and didn't seem to need prompting which was impressive. He seemed sincere, but it was all so depressing and hardly inspirational.

Oh for goodness sake. ???
I agree Chestnut. I believe he is sincere but you’re right, nothing inspiring.
