Eeek! Manchester Tart, custard etc am exactly the same - remember being sat on my own in the school dining room whilst Mrs Pearson from Class 5 stood over whilst |I point blank refused to eat Manchester Tart! I would eat the swirl of cream off the top and drop the lump of custard out and eat the pastry and jam, but the custard, NO! Same with the milk puddings - others used to lick their spoon and 'bagsy' the skin, as far as I was concerned they were welcome to it! But their cheese pie was delicious and I have never found anything like it since - wasn't a quiche all eggy, was just like a lovely pastry case full of warm red soft cheese, yummy!
