Written in 'honour' of our ex sil - commonly know as the ar****le.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 17:49:45

Nothing at all Delila.

Callistemon21 Fri 19-Aug-22 17:58:31

People were just asking for clarification - what’s wrong with that?
Jumping in and attacking the OP wasn't just asking for clarification.

Asking for clarification would be: "I don't understand, could you explain please?"

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 18:06:01

Honeysuckles response was understandable.
I too was baffled.
Someone could have "jumped in" and explained. And that would have prevented everything that followed which spoilt the thread.
Just my opinion.

Delila Fri 19-Aug-22 18:17:08

The OP, as it stood, made no sense, other than appearing to be a curse on Kittylester’s SIL.

Those who don’t know the history could only take it on face value, and responded accordingly. An explanation at the outset could have avoided any misunderstanding.

There was already another thread remembering Phoenix on the anniversary of her death. Is it too much to expect that people, some of whom seem to read every thread, would have noticed that and put two and two together?

Delila Fri 19-Aug-22 18:34:36

Yes, GSM, I think it is too much to expect.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 18:40:53

Delila

Yes, GSM, I think it is too much to expect.

Agree.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 18:42:14

There is no mention of Phoenix in the OP.
I knew Phoenix and didn't get the connection.

People who read the thread about remembering a much loved poster who only died a year ago having been hounded off gn when she was terminally ill.

Yes, that was shocking.

Why was she hounded off? I was here but I must have missed it. How awful.

I’ve just copied out the Curse of the Gammon to pass around the family in a couple of months - so thanks to whoever posted it.
And I must say I found some of the comments about the other poem sanctimonious in the extreme.

Same comment. Some posters seem to have been on GN for so long and know all about each other. Newcomers cannot guess.

On another thread, some posters say Johnson should not have been called 'a fat ponce'! I am sure the man cursed here has not hurt as many as Johnson has.

The title, Phoenix’s Curse, wasn’t enough for you?

Beckett Fri 19-Aug-22 19:13:57

It is obvious the poem in the OP is a joke but it seems some people have had a sense of humour by-pass. I didn't know Phoenix but I took it to be a joke. (Here's a hint - curses aren't real!)

Is it going to become necessary to have to add footnotes to all posts in order that someone doesn't take offence? I have noticed that some people are already marking their threads as being "lighthearted"

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 19:16:26

It was a clue GSM. But I didn't know the story behind it.
But those who didn't know Phoenix wouldn't get it.
As I said, it would have been better to explain right away, instead of having all the unpleasantness.

Galaxy Fri 19-Aug-22 19:18:18

If you are going to post a curse or a poem or a story on the internet then some people arent going to like it. People are allowed to hold different opinions.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 19:19:48

Becjett your post is just rude.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 19:20:48

That was to Beckett.

Because an awful lot of people have been indoctrinated not to offend anyone
If Phoenix had ever gone into stand up comedy she would be cancelled. She would have been bloody good, though ?

For me, Phoenix is a town in Arizona.

JenniferEccles Fri 19-Aug-22 19:40:45

How was Phoenix hounded off GN?
She always struck me as a feisty person who could stick up for herself if she was being got at on the site.
It’s particularly unpleasant though as she was so ill.

I so agree! It is a true that some of us have been here a long time and 'know' each other why should be deny that connection.

Callistemon21 Fri 19-Aug-22 19:49:45

I don't know why posters persist in arguing about phoenix, her name, the fact that you don't "get" the OP and, even when all is explained, carry on with self-justifying posts.

If you have no clue about her and her humour then there are lots of other threads to post on.

Some posters are remembering her with fondness.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 19:54:44

I remember Phoenix with fondness.
I am not offended by the post.
I understand now that it's been explained.
I don't think it is right to be rude to those who didn't understand.

Not rude just stating my opinion - some people DO appear to have had a sense of humour bypass

kittylester Fri 19-Aug-22 20:00:12

To be honest, it is nothing to do with anyone who didn't know Phoenix and is just reminiscing fir those of us who. So leave us alone.

nadateturbe Fri 19-Aug-22 20:17:00

Posts are open for everyone to comment.
Why did everyone keep telling Honeysuckle she didn't get it instead of explaining. As if you were an exclusive group.
You spoilt the thread.
