I don’t read the articles but see the headlines, the poor couple must be seriously damaged by the constant attention and criticism they are receiving.

I’m not a fan but enough is enough surely!

If Harry ever was ‘the favourite GS’, I would imagine the last couple of years have made the Queen think again.

merlotgran Thu 01-Sept-22 18:18:49

Maybe the Queen uses one of Bruce Forsyth’s catch phrases with whichever GC offers to walk the corgis or put a new battery in the TV remote.

You’re My Favourite!

I just failed to see the crash date as something she’d have memorised

I fail to see that it is something of which Meghan is unaware.
She seems to be a loving wife and of course will be aware of one of the most formative events of Harry's life.

Sorry, but the editor and publisher decide when a magazine article will be published. Not the author nor the person being interviewed.

Just in case you need to learn how the process works: www.encyclopedia.com/media/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/magazine-industry-production-process

CBS decided when the interview was going to air. Meghan did not go to Oprah and say hey? Prince Philip is going to die in a few days we should run that interview on TV.

Rumors of an interview started in November 2020. In January 2021, the rumors intensified. CBS confirmed the rumors of an interview on February 15th 2021.

Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital on Feb 16th. The Palace reported: “The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.

“The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest."

Oprah's interview aired on March 7th on CBS

On March 16th, it was reported that Prince Philip was successfully treated and was returning home.

Prince Philip died April 9th, a full month after the interview. Not a few days, not shorty before. A month.

So no, Meghan did not plan the interview in order to hurt the royal family surrounding Prince Phillips death.

FWIW, my grandmother died when I was 13 years old. All I remember is it was October. I was her favorite grandchild.

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when Princess Diana died. I never remember the day until the media tells me it is coming.

So it’s just a string of amazing coincidences.

Must be a world record.

tickingbird Thu 01-Sept-22 18:50:58

From what I’ve just heard Americans are losing their fascination with her. She hasn’t done herself any favours with the Mandela story. Surely she must realise the press will dig into such porkies?

Incidentally Imaround are you a member of her PR team or just her biggest fan? grin

Calendargirl Thu 01-Sept-22 18:55:09

No thanks, I’ll pass on that, and remain in blissful ignorance.

I did not say Meghan is unaware Harry's mum is dead and died in a car crash. I did say I failed to see the crash date as memorable.

Yes, formative and memorable for Harry.

I have no idea when she died, until it's upon us, in the news.

eazybee Thu 01-Sept-22 19:02:50

So Meghan, and let us not forget Harry, planned, filmed and broadcast an extremely critical interview about the royal family knowing that a leading member, their 99 year old grandparent was critically ill and very unlikely to recover.
Such compassion.
Did they not think to ask if he was OK?

icanhandthemback Thu 01-Sept-22 19:21:18

No, of course not but the timing is not down to MM. The media will use their interviews at a time that is right for them because it will sell more copy. However, when PP became ill after they had given the interview to Oprah, how likely do you think it was that the schedulers will have pulled it from their schedules?

Summerlove Thu 01-Sept-22 19:23:14

Do we know when the oprah interview was filmed? genuine question

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 19:36:51

I am not her biggest fan. But I refuse to believe tabloids over verifiable facts. A simple internet search could prove or disprove so many things.

Luckily I have learned a valuable lesson in determining what is and is not fake news the last 7 years.

Some of what is being reported about Meghan is true. Some of it is not. I would research the same way about anyone.

It appears that the interview was recorded sometime between November 2020 and January 2021.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 20:01:35

Summerlove, the more I think about it, I think the interview was done in January 2021. They all had long sleeves on outdoor in Southern California. She was pregnant enough to be showing. But not so pregnant that she was uncomfortable. Since Lilli was born in May, a January timeline would make sense.

I am laughing at the thought of me being on anyone's PR team. My communication style is the opposite of what would be expected of a PR professional. Maybe she can hire me to be her fact checker though? Money is money at the end of the day I suppose. wink

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 20:01:42

I'd imagine Oprah has a vested interest in stirring the pot, her PR will be looking at the predicted viewing figures, and how to ensure they're high.

What better than a rift, a scandal, the royals, and someone who is ready to talk about it (whether it's real or imaginary doesnt really matter)

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 20:27:25

I agree with you missadventure but, again, it was CBS who funded the project, recruited the advertisers and released the interview. They alone chose the date. CBS, not Oprah and not Meghan.

Oprah has a golden touch here in the US. She doesn't need to worry about those things any longer. Oprah can release a Tweet at midnight and people would set their alarms to wake up to read it.

merlotgran Thu 01-Sept-22 20:34:10

Oprah can release a Tweet at midnight and people would set their alarms to wake up to read it.

No wonder Meghan wanted to return to America. ?

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 20:34:16

Ah, right.
Well, anyone whose living is made by selling to the public use all sorts of techniques to lure their customers.
I've noticed Oprah is hugely popular (again)
CBS must feel it's their lucky day with the interview; it contains everything, with Oprah as the cherry on top!

eazybee Thu 01-Sept-22 20:47:51

Which does not alter the fact that Meghan and the lamentable Harry chose to give a malicious interview at a time when they knew the 99 year old Prince Philip was in very poor health and his family deeply concerned. All of them only concerned with how much money they could make.
A golden touch?
Trash.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:00:36

Oprah is a well respected person in the US because she worked her ass off for over 40 years to build an empire. As a black woman, she had obstacles that others did not. She started out as a news journalist and pushed back against the powers to be at the time because she did not want to do the "trash" tv of the time like Phil Donague and Jerry Springer. She did not move her offices from Chicago
when she went i to national syndication because she did not want to uproot her staff. She is NOT trash.

I don't work for her PR team either by the way. I can just imagine the response I would get if I called a well respected public person from the UK trash. Especially when the truth is I know nothing about that person.

We have a ratings system in the US which stations use to determine when programs should air. Sadly for you all, the interview brought in the same number of viewers as the interview with Kairlyn Jenner. Less than the Superbowl (90+ million every year) and the Michael Jackson interview. 17.1 million viewers out of 300 million people.

Hardly a smash success.

Vintagejazz Thu 01-Sept-22 21:02:29

Norah

I imagine Meghan has no recollection of when Dianna died. Diana's sons appear to have not memorialized the anniversary, how would Meghan know?

If course she remembers the date. It was a seismic event in Harry's life and is mentioned in the media every year.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:03:00

*Katilyn Jenner

MawtheMerrier Thu 01-Sept-22 21:04:17

Caitlyn Jenner?

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:12:02

Oh yes. My bad. I spelled it wrong.

Yep, I used my bad. Maybe this months "what American words offend us" thread can start early.

Summerlove Thu 01-Sept-22 21:32:24

Smileless2012

I was referring to the Cut magazine article that was published on the 29th, 2 days before the 25th anniversary of Diana's death.

I’m curious what day their monthly articles are usually published.

It’s probable she knew she’d be the September cover

But not when the magazine would release

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:48:43

Summerlove:

It looks like the magazine is printed twice a year.
