On a lighthearted note I always wonder how they go to the toilet when they are glued to something

So damaging art is a protest about denying climate change. What does the first have to do with the second? If I objected to climate change activists per se, would I be entitled to hack into computer systems that predicted the weather?

That is very much a hypothetical suggestion as I have no idea how to hack into anything. I also support pressure or, perhaps, I should say persuasion to a) accept climate change as a scientific reality and b) put pressure on those in positions of power to try to mitigate it.

They should just be left, in situ, glued or whatever, no contact, no food or drink, ignored.

Idiots.

Yup.

They have a right to protest but they don't have a right to be deliberately destructive or to stop other people from going about their lives in peace.

Why don't the police seem to know this?

nadateturbe Sat 29-Oct-22 07:45:19

Am I the only one who wonders where common sense has gone?
No. Totally bonkers.
But I believe in the right to protest.

toscalily Sat 29-Oct-22 08:07:29

While I think we need to retain the right to protest this is not the way to gain support by destroying priceless pieces of art. Utterly stupid and does nothing for the cause.

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 08:16:28

What pieces of art have been damaged or destroyed, please?

NotSpaghetti Sat 29-Oct-22 08:24:34

I found it peculiar that they chose to attack the waxworks of the King instead of someone more obviously appropriate? By that I mean, linked to oil/cars/aviation/etc...

The protests do get attention but seem so meaningless.

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 08:29:23

The fact that they are getting attention means that they are not meaningless. How many threads have we had about this? We're all talking about it.

vegansrock Sat 29-Oct-22 08:50:49

Those dreadful suffragettes - just middle class women with nothing better to do - shouldn’t have chained themselves to railings, attacked policemen, chucked themselves in front of the King’s horse and spoiled the Derby for everyone.

As opposed to stuff protected behind glass etc making it a symbolic not actual destruction.

Personally I don't think good tactics - but my question valid?

I wonder that when those men were hanging above the bridge do you think they just sprinkled over the side or took empty plastic bottled up with them they could then use as ammo?

harrigran Sat 29-Oct-22 10:04:22

Was it in Germany where they asked for access to toilet facilities and to be provided with food ?
The work force turned the heat off and lights out and went home, now that is what I call common sense.

I agree. Don't any of those people go to work? They seem intent on stopping everyone else from doing so.

Can you help me out with this? How did the people throwing a custard pie in the face of a waxwork of the King prevent anyone from going to work?

And can we decide who it is we are hating this week?

Is it the young people who have never really experienced hardship and deserve all they get, or is it the middle aged who are probably claiming benefits and should know better?

HowVeryDareYou Sat 29-Oct-22 10:35:50

Volver I didn't say I hated anyone. Not am I interested in getting into an argument

HowVeryDareYou Sat 29-Oct-22 10:36:47

"the middle aged who are probably claiming benefits" ????

I did say they got attention (for something I believe is truly very important by the way).
Unfortunately I find it hard to get past the lack of symbolism and the muddled semiotics. I wish they did this in a more focused way.

Just saying.

I think hanging for days above a vital commuter bridge might be called a nuisance and if their own jobs were vital like the Fire service or police they would not consider it.
Who do you think we should be hating this week? You are one of the chief protagonists of turning an innocent steam into an argument, you probably have lots of ideas.
Give yourself a rest and have a weekend off.

I used to know Germs Greer. She deliberately argued against general opinions for publicity and it worked for her. It doesn’t work on this forum, it just irritates people and makes them think that that argumentative ‘intelligent’ person has personal anger management issues.

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 11:05:30

Germs?

Yes. Common sense prevailed.

Lathyrus Sat 29-Oct-22 11:16:43

Tubs and tubs of glue made from?

A mountain of orange paint that needs pollutants to manufacture and clear up.

I wonder how they travelled to the protests.

🤔
