King Charles coronation

I’m reading today that Charles will be insisting that Harry & Meghan will be invited to his Coronation next year… but why? So they may still whinge & moan and take sneaky pictures for maybe another forthcoming battering of the royal family, moan that all the family will be so cold towards them, that no one is friendly towards them. Charles do your best and don’t invite them, they probably wouldn’t attend anyway..

Callistemon21 Fri 23-Dec-22 21:04:16

Just say the magic word and I'll transport you 😀

maddyone Fri 23-Dec-22 22:57:51

Of course Charles will invite his son and daughter in law to the coronation. I think they’ll come myself. I suspect that they’ll be treated as they were at the jubilee with little opportunity to flaunt themselves but afforded every civility. Maybe Johnny will be seated behind them again. At the end of the day this is about Charles and no one else.

Joseanne Fri 23-Dec-22 23:33:11

By inviting them, Charles would retain the moral high ground. It's then up to them to decide whether they will accept or not.

Bet they wouldn't miss it for quids. Another chance to be in front of the cameras.

And more scope for more whinging.

'This elevating of one family, what is the matter?!'

This caller who finds the UK's hierarchy 'nauseating' says 'we are going to spend £100m to put a metal hat on someone's head', adding that we are the 'only country in Europe' that still has coronations.

'If King Charles wants to have an extravagant coronation, he should put his hand in his own pocket.'

This caller says the Royal Family 'are the epitome of inequality' and doesn't believe they have 'a place in any modern democratic society'.

Two republicans view points will monarchists listen

Grany Sun 25-Dec-22 11:53:32

Do you think £100 million is a lot of money to pay for a man to have a crown put on his head he is already a king. Why don’t pay

Two republicans view points will monarchists listen
Probably not, unfortunately.

Nope, not interested what republicans say they can rant all they like I will back the pageantry and tradition that the monarchy brings

Even if £100m is correct it’s about £1.40 per head of the population, which is a drop in the ocean compared with the amount that is wasted in the UK each year

nadateturbe Tue 27-Dec-22 15:49:32

Another rude poster. Same argument about cost per head 😴

Not interested ... Rant. hmm

Behold, the level of engagement of monarchists. Got any other arguments about how our country is organised or just that you like the fancy frocks and horsies?

Katie59 Tue 27-Dec-22 16:12:10

Volver I’m pretty sure I’m one of the majority in the UK so it’s you that is out of step, it won’t matter to all those in Scotland because you will be independant soon.
My only regret is that I won’t get a vote to get rid of them!

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 16:26:25

Once more for those at the back having trouble following...

I have said on another thread today that I hope some day more people will think like me and so I know I'm in the minority. Telling me I'm in the minority isn't the killer blow you think it is.

If Scotland votes for independance independence, that does not mean becoming a republic. It means political separation from the WM Parliament. That has nothing to do with the King; who is also King of Scots.

Get rid of? What, you going to set us all adrift in a wee boat? And they say the Scots hate the English. Other way about for some, it seems. hmm

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 16:28:54

What, you going to set us all adrift in a wee boat?

Some might vote to stay in the UK 🙂

Just saying ............

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 16:30:34

Yes, they might. Like they did last time.

Not very good at this political debate thing generally, are we? Stating the obvious now, that's a core competence here.

Just saying...........

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 16:32:47

Oh, I should say, for all those who think the Scots hate England. DH and I can't put up with the coronation on TV every minute of the day and night over that weekend in May, so we're booking a remote cottage.

In Northumberland.

Katie59 Tue 27-Dec-22 16:33:38

Independance is just that, no hanging on to the coat tails of England, a customs border and visas to visit, you think you can emulate Norway, the best of luck with that.

Jaberwok Tue 27-Dec-22 16:44:19

Katie59 😁😁 👍👍. God save the King. Coronation? Bring it on, gloomy o!d Britain needs cheering up, can't wait to see all the great and the good, the pageantry and crowns.

Och, I know, I'm just petty, but...

Independance Independence.

When you learn to spell it, you can give me advice about it.

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 16:57:50

This thread is really quite funny.

50 Shades of Rudeness!

All these royal celebrations are giving you and your DH great excuses to go away for holidays volver. Your 3rd holiday recently I believe, now that sounds like a big positive to me! Maybe I should swap sides? grin

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 17:04:15

I presume it will go ahead, all being well, wherever I am or whatever I decide to do.

If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound if no-one is there to hear it?

Calendargirl Tue 27-Dec-22 17:07:51

I’m often tempted to point out the spelling mistakes of others on GN, but apparently that is considered the height of bad form, shaming those not so well educated.

Bridgeit Tue 27-Dec-22 17:07:58

By inviting them he has put the ‘ball in their court ‘
Not much else he can do. In my opinion he has done the right thing ( as many parents do for their offspring)
In years to come H&M themselves may well be in a similar position.

I consider myself suitably chastened.

What about telling posters you want to get rid of them and their countrymen? Is that OK? Asking for a friend.
