harrigran Fri 30-Dec-22 06:13:29

Good morning Mick and all to follow.
Been awake since 4am, it is very windy and noisy in the street because the dustbins are out.
I did nothing yesterday, stayed in bed until 2pm in an attempt to rest my shoulder.
Had a pile of post, Christmas cards with a postmark of 7th December, well done Royal mail only 22 days to deliver mail with 1st class stamp. Everyone I have spoken to say they will not be sending cards next year.

grandMattie Fri 30-Dec-22 06:14:26

Good morning from E Kent. Still dark, but we are promised strong winds today - not unusual for these parts.
I’ve nearly finished my second knitted nativity and about to launch on my third!
Quiet day yesterday sorting out washing etc., after being away. Tried to change my M&S handbag, but the ones there were ghastly! May get a refund and try somewhere else.
I’m meeting DGS and his mum for lunch in Folkestone today. I haven’t seen him since the burial of DH’s ashes in early October. Really looking forward to that!
I hope that everyone is listening to their bodies and only doing as much as they easily can….
Carpe diem, dear friends. 🦩🦩🦩🦩

ShazzaKanazza Fri 30-Dec-22 06:16:05

Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull.
I’m up early probably excited as we are flying off to Madeira today.
Just saying about your air fryer Mick I think we may invest in one when we get home. DH was complaining about how much our energy bills are yesterday so we are going to have to make some slight changes.

Well we are packed so will head over to Manchester when we are ready we are booked into the meet and greet from 12 noon.

Have a lovely day everyone. Virtual hugs to those suffering stress and illness. 🌻🌞

BlueBalou Fri 30-Dec-22 06:20:17

It’s bucketing down and blowing hard here, a very wet corner of Wiltshire this morning, it’s just as well I don’t have to go out other than to take DDog for a walk. Wellies and long raincoat today 😊, I don’t mind so long as I have the right clothing. DDog’s got a waterproof coat, she doesn’t care what it’s like out.
Housework today m I may take the tree down, I actually like the twiggy version we have this year so maybe it’ll stay up a bit longer!
Take care everyone x

cornergran Fri 30-Dec-22 06:37:28

Morning Mick, morning All from a windy and very wet corner of Somerset. The puddles have joined and resemble a lake. Enough now.

Snap haeri. A heap of post was yesterdays excitement. None for 13 days. Many cards, all very welcome but sadly won’t be displayed as decorations are being dismantled. A long letter from cardiology for Mr C had taken 25 days to travel the same number of miles. We’re hoping the two anticipated appointments will be made by phone. Other than that a trouble free shopping trip and a long chat to our friend who is finding it hard to adjust to her very distressed husband being in a care home, community care is just not available.

Meter man is due this morning for a third attempt to get our sulking gas meter to turn smart. I don’t envy him, our meters aren’t under cover. Other than that a new recipe to try and some more decoration dismantling. I prefer to do a little at a time rather than suddenly having bare rooms. We’ve a twiggy tree too bluebalou, it will be the last to go.

Safe journey shazza and to all on the move. Hope Friday is gentle with us all.

Grammaretto Fri 30-Dec-22 07:03:19

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Blowing a hoolie here. Really I hope no slates or trees come down

DSis &DBiL are driving South today. They offered to take me with them but I have various appointments and commitments and will go in a month or two.

Like yours Harrigran the postie came yesterday with a pile of mail. I don't mind as I know the days of fast post are long gone unless you pay a big premium. We all email now.
Parcels are different somehow. Remember telegrams?

We had a lovely walk yesterday and lunch out.
Tonight I have my Christmas night out with the "girls"

Hope everyone has a good day.

I am curious about your knitting Nativity scenes grand Mattie and had to check the date?

Kalu Fri 30-Dec-22 07:13:37

Good morning all from Glasgow. Heavy rain yet again! The only time of year I wish the days to move along quickly out of the dark winter days. Our postie, who is a Munro bagger, is still in shorts! Fortunately he has rather nice legs. ☺️

I will have a look at my to do list before deciding what’s happening today. A washing is a must, a glance at housework and potting up 3 white amaryllis in a large bowl.

Hopefully a good day is ahead for all and many hugs for those who need them during difficult times.

kittylester Fri 30-Dec-22 07:17:13

Good morning all from a dark North Leicestershire. Haven't looked outside yet but it sounds peaceful - well apart from the bin lorry that just went down the road.

I have my covid booster today. Hopefully, I will have no side effects.

My drive yesterday was uneventful but very tiring.

Have the best day possible, everyone.

Ashcombe Fri 30-Dec-22 07:20:01

Good morning from a blowy and soggy Torbay, much like elsewhere by the sound of some contributions here!

Safe travels, ShazzaKanazza: Madeira is lovely! Will you brave the toboggan run?! I’m delighted with my air fryer and cooked two thirds of last night's meal in ours (the chipolatas and the wedges: gourmet cooking here!!)

I hope you enjoy your lunch, grandMattie and you find some relief from your shoulder pain, harrigran.

We’re still receiving late Christmas mail, including one from a friend of DH's who put Cornwall in the address and missed a digit from the postcode. It’s frustrating when long awaited mail includes important content like medical details, cornergran. Most postmen wear shorts here, too, Kalu, as do other men throughout the year, much to DH’s disgust!

No plans today as I have to be home to receive a delivery of tablets from our local hospital pharmacy because they couldn’t completely fulfil a prescription from the cardiologist when I was there before Christmas. I'm impressed that they deliver!

Have a good day and take care on the roads. 🦩🥰🎅🏼⛄️🎄🦩

brook2704 Fri 30-Dec-22 07:23:16

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s still dark but looks like we’ve had a bit more snow overnight but I think it’s melting now
Yesterday I had a lovely day with DD2 and family here, the DGC wanted to stay over so are both still snoozing in their beds. 7.30 is their usual get up time so they’ll be coming into the bedroom soon!
Hope you have a lovely holiday Shazza safe travels
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Pittcity Fri 30-Dec-22 07:23:27

Good morning from a dark, damp and mild Colchester. 12 degrees and rainy is today's forecast.
No plans except to run the hoover around.
Love to all 🦩 x

Pittcity Fri 30-Dec-22 07:25:32

We love our air fryer and have been receiving post regularly, except strike days. Just one late Christmas card yesterday which wasn't postmarked.

Urmstongran Fri 30-Dec-22 07:28:51

No Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dark but dry. It was very windy in the night but seems a bit calmer now with gusts every now and again. Safe journey over the Pennines to us Shazza on the first leg of your journey. Expect some buffering! Puzzled by your ‘meet and greet’ comment. Are you doing with a group?

We are babysitting tonight so daughter & son in law can go out for a cocktail and a meal locally. It’s back to work on Tuesday for our daughter and such a shame she had ‘flu the first week of her holidays. She was wiped out and hasn’t had the same benefit of R&R to recharge her batteries. Tonight will do her good.

I’ve finally lost another 1lb! Woohoo! I’ve plateaued over Christmas. Only another 1lb to go for that champagne treat to myself. Then focus on the next half stone! I’m hoping to reach my target weight just before Easter, slow but sure. These food choices over the months are re-educating my decisions. I never want to pile on that amount of weight ever again. It crept up very slowly over time and I stupidly just ‘accepted it’ instead of doing something about it and then it seemed such a big task I didn’t know how best to tackle it!

Marydoll Fri 30-Dec-22 07:36:28

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where its a mild 10°C. I was wakened a few times during the night by the torrential rain.

No plans for today, another day in bed ahead is on the cards and Mr MD, will be conscripted to to do the supermarket run.
We have a family lunch tomorrow, I want to be well enough to go, so I am taking things easy.

Safe journey to all, who are travelling and sending healing vibes to all in the sick bay.

ShazzaKanazza Fri 30-Dec-22 07:38:27

Well done on your weight loss Urms the same has happened to me with weight creeping back on.
I meant the car meet and greet at the airport we usually do that one.

The border force are on strike again today but I think it’s more coming in to the country where the disruption is but I think the army are doing a great job.

Ash we have been many times but have never done the toboggan. We have seen it stuck behind a bin lorry going at a snails pace so it kind of put us off. We have family joining us as well so they might fancy it. X

Urmstongran Fri 30-Dec-22 07:42:55

Ah, thanks for explaining Shazza - as we just get a taxi ‘up the road’ for 10 miles to the airport we’ve never needed to park up and I wondered what you meant. Have a great holiday!

Greyduster Fri 30-Dec-22 07:51:15

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Too dark to tell what is going on with the South Yorkshire weather except that it’s cold! I had a long chat on the phone with my oldest friend yesterday. The first thing she said to me was “I got your Christmas card today!” I also got a couple of stragglers. I think this will be the last year I send cards too. I woke up at three o’clock on my side (the good one fortunately) and spent the rest of the night in great discomfort, not being able to settle after that on my side or my back. I’ve had the best part of a week flying solo, and have managed pretty well, except when I dropped a box of grapes and had to pick all the loose ones up with a grabber. I felt like a contestant in some daft game show! It took ages. DD and her menfolk are coming over today to “sort me out”! The boys are grocery shopping and DD is “cleaning stuff that folks with gammy legs can’t reach”, changing my bed linen and doing laundry. I will also press them into service to get the Christmas tree and attendant paraphernalia put away into the loft. It will be nice to have the company.
Hope your shoulder is better soon, Harri.
Safe travels Shazza and anyone else on the move today.
Have the best day you can folks.

BlueSapphire Fri 30-Dec-22 08:01:29

Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton where it looks dry out, but I fear rain is forecast later this morning. I may delay my shopping trip till after lunch when it's supposed to be dry.

Had a pleasant afternoon at the panto yesterday (enhanced by a glass of wine during the interval...). It was very slick,.but did not really keep to the traditional story, and to be honest, I preferred DGD's production.

Nothing else planned for today apart from usual Friday bus to the shops. So I will wish everyone a pleasant day.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 30-Dec-22 08:12:57

Morning all

Sorry I haven’t opened the curtains, I can hear the wind and we are expecting rain.

AS4 and wife are taking GD (5) and GS (3) to Disney on Ice at the O2 today, GD is just so excited.

We are meeting up with our friends at our favourite Indian Restaurant this evening, we haven’t seen them for ages, much to catch up on.

DD and DiL seem to have crashed back down again with the virus/bug doing the rounds, hopefully DD can get a GP appointment later today.

Happy New Years Eve Eve folks 🙋‍♀️🦩

Grandmadinosaur Fri 30-Dec-22 08:19:50

Good morning all from East Yorkshire. It’s just getting light and quite blustery.

Happy holidays shaza I know you will have a great time fingers crossed for a safe journey.

I have a hair appt this morning. Then going across to see GS. It is his 6th birthday today. He is excited … again! This evening we are going out for tea with them to a pub with an indoor play area.

We also received post yesterday. It included a card from MIL. Mm never know where we are with her. Could it be she’s reminding us she’s still around and her birthday in January. We know her so well.

Have a good day everyone.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 30-Dec-22 08:20:45

Good morning from a wet and very windy South Downs. Dog is still snoring, but will wake and prance around until we go out for his morning walk for an hour, so that will get us properly wet.
DS off to Berlin for a New Year break. Booked a show and cabaret. I’d like to do that. Love Berlin.

Didn’t manage our walk yesterday as the rain blew in, so sat and read instead.
Today I’m going to clear out and clean the fridge of Christmas detritus, as my oddbox of vegetables will have arrived over night and need putting away.
Then I’m going to make Turkey stock and use some of it to make Turkey soup.
Also making a pasta vegetable sauce for supper tonight.

It is a day for staying in I think.

Have a good day everyone.

monk08 Fri 30-Dec-22 08:21:01

Good morning all from a wet and windy Black country.
Another who had a pile of cards yesterday.
DS and the boys are coming over later their mum will come after work and they'll stop for dinner/tea.
We are off to the club to meet up with friends this evening, so a fairly full on day.
Enjoy your break Shazza safe travels and to anyone else on the move.
Have a good Friday all whatever your plans and may you all find some 🌞.

ginny Fri 30-Dec-22 08:26:59

Good morning from a very wet and breezy N. Bucks.
We and the little ones enjoyed the lights yesterday, see photos .
Today is a tidying day and I use prepare a beef casserole for tomorrow evenings dinner.
I’ll also force myself to do a bit of ironing before the mountain falls over.
Other than that I’ll stay warm and dry and sort out some art materials ready for an on line course that starts on Monday.
Wishing all a good day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 30-Dec-22 08:27:58

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed but better get up soon! A quiet day I think. There’s a pile of ironing with my name on it which has been sitting in the utility room since before Christmas. Younger son is going back to London this evening so the house will be back to normal. After last night’s Two Fat Ladies pheasant extravaganza, I think we’ll have bangers and mash for an early dinner! There’s Christmas pudding to finish off too. Have a good day everyone.
