Has this topic been aired? Not sure why I thought of it but do you remeber using Inecto hint of a tint shampoo that came in a sachet? Also Avon Brocade cream perfume in a little pot along with a honeysuckle one and Adagio? I remeber my mother using 4711 and Amami hair setting liquid.A funny thought.. she always had to wear a rubber corset when she was going out.It came in a cardboard tube.I vowed never to truss myself up in one of those!

I still use 4711.

I really liked Armami setting lotion, I wish we could still get it - mousse doesn't cut the mustard.

My first boyfriend gave me his mother’s bottle of 4711. I thought he asked if I liked “Force Heaven Eleven”, I’d never heard of 4711 as my mother only had Avon Occur!

M0nica Fri 20-Jan-23 20:23:12

It is still freely available and I probably buy a bottle every year.

I still use Ponds Cold Cream, as does my DD who brings back larger jars from America for me.
Wonderful stuff and also removes eye make up.

I remember the Armami setting lotion and, of course, 4711, which is Eau de Cologne, I think.
It came in a lovely bottle with an aqua and gold label.
I do like the scent, might order some 🙂

Anne French cleansing lotion - it really worked.

I had to wear a Liberty bodice as a young girl. It was a slightly padded vest which did up in front with a row of small rubber buttons. I got into someone’s bad books by using the lavender smelling wood polish, a free sample from the KleenEsee man, to polish the rubber buttons and wasn’t allowed the spoonful of Parishes Food I always looked forward to every Friday.

Ohh Yardleys Sea Jade perfume I loved it.

How I miss Drene shampoo. My mother thought it prevented us from having nits. I just remember it had a nice smell.

My granny loved 4711 and used to dab it on her face in hot weather, can’t recall the scent but it was a pretty bottle.

henetha Fri 20-Jan-23 23:20:45

I always have a 4711 cool stick in the summer months.

These are bringing back memories. My aunt used to have Sophistocat perfume- I think it was Yardley, and the bottles were held by fuzzy cats, which she would give me when the bottle was nearly empty. I loved them - the smell of Lily of the valley and the velvety black cats - I thought I was so grown up with them on my dressing table.

I like 4711, but haven’t smelt it for years. I remember hint of a tint. It didn’t work very well, but I was allowed to use it when I was 14 or so, and thought I was the bee’s knees. There was a blow dry setting lotion that I loved in the 70s too. I can’t remember the name, but I would recognise the smell immediately, along with peach kernel shampoo.

I also loved bath pearls - squishy balls with oil inside. They came in tubes, and I sometimes got them for Christmas instead of bath cubes - they were a million times nicer.

All of these are a trip down memory lane. I remember buying a single sachet of shampoo every week and hair spray (lacquer) also came in a bigger sachet, where you cut the nozzle off and squirted the liquid into a plastic puffer bottle to ‘spray’ it on - it set like cement! I can remember a lady coming to the house to give my Mum, Gran and Aunt home perms - Prom (?) - can’t remember the name, but the smell was unforgettable!

I was going to add Bronnley Lemons - yellow lemon shaped/scented soap that came wrapped in tissue paper in a wooden box, but when I googled, they’re still available.

However…this soap really caught my eye!

Parishes Food, liberty bodices and Playtex girdles bring back memories as does 4711 and Amaami. My mother used to give us Bengers Food when we were poorly, I can taste it now.

FoghornLeghorn Sat 21-Jan-23 08:21:54

Liberty bodices. 😱. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have those with buttons. Mine were pulled over my head. I remember starting to outgrow them and the struggle to get them off. I swear that’s why I’m claustrophobic to this day. 😂.

I remember Twink home perms and my mum and gran giving me one aged 6 when I was about to be a bridesmaid.

yggdrasil Sat 21-Jan-23 08:40:42

I thought I was old till I read this thread. I don't remember any of these except 4711 which I only know of as a name

Auntieflo Sat 21-Jan-23 09:55:30

How about Linc-O-Lin shampoo, in a little beer barrel shaped container?

henetha Sat 21-Jan-23 09:59:36

I remember those, Auntieflo. I liked them as they seemed to suit my hair.

Boz Sat 21-Jan-23 10:04:21

I miss Dab-it-Off. Never thought to sniff it; the reason for its demise, I think.

Callistemon21 Sat 21-Jan-23 10:17:23

Hair rollers and some hand hairdryers used to have a plastic bag you could fit over your rollered hair, it was easier to use than drying each individual roller.

hollysteers Sat 21-Jan-23 10:37:11

Georgesgran 😁😁
I still use these for the ends of my hair, fab.

maddyone Sat 21-Jan-23 10:58:09

I wore a liberty bodice, with buttons. What were they for? Or supposed to do? I’m sure I wore a vest as well.

annodomini Sat 21-Jan-23 11:15:15

It's hard to remember almost 80 years ago, but weren't there little buttons on my liberty bodice to which suspenders were attached for my horrible lisle stockings?
