I was looking through some of my photos yesterday and came across this bit of our local history. These old abandoned grinding wheels are littered along the gritstone edges here, where they were carved out of the rock and then transported to water powered workshops in Sheffield. When more modern methods were adopted, they were just left lying.
After our house fire I had to leave home for a week and stayed in a cottage in Shaldon in Devon. A little passenger ferry has plied its route across to Teignmouth since 1296, this is the current one.
