Typical Gransnetter

I do not think of myself as a typical Gnetter beacause I am a very fortunate Granny in many ways.

When I read other Gnetter's stories it makes me realise how fortunate I am.

Who is the typical Gransnetter?

Jaxjacky Tue 11-Apr-23 07:59:29

I don’t fit into your slot Fanny so maybe I’m atypical.
I don’t think there’s a typical gransnetter, but do see some people have affinity with others of a similar background.

Marydoll Tue 11-Apr-23 07:59:34

However, some were very accurate. Have you been taking notes? 😉

Wot no SeaSalt?!

And is she also not a member of the WI?

^Ah but it’s not the hand you are dealt but how you play the cards^

Bo***cks!.

Why is this B…s Merlotgran?
I believe there’s truth in believing our response to the challenges life gives us is important.

Marydoll Tue 11-Apr-23 08:06:51

I agree with Foxygloves. The hand I have been dealt with has made me into the strong resilient woman I am.
It's not the hand I would have wished for, but I can't change it.

FannyCornforth Tue 11-Apr-23 08:10:21

I agree with Foxy too.
My life hasn’t panned out as expected at all but I can live with it, and even be thankful too

Iam64 Tue 11-Apr-23 08:15:15

Thanks Marydoll and FannyC. I’m having a good life but have faced and continue to face difficulties and challenges. ‘Getting on with it’ is something many of us were brought up to do. It’s not always easy but it can help us deal with the cards as they fall

Wot no SeaSalt?!

Sorry no 🤣🤣

I am a The White Company, Boden, Mint Velvet with a sprinkling of Hobbs & LK Bennet Granny…

FannyCornforth Tue 11-Apr-23 08:21:59

🤦‍♀️ I did mean to add Boden (kicks oneself with jewelled kitten heel)

Fanny
Very amusing, and possibly very accurate, but apart from being 68, I can’t tick any more boxes.
I learned a long time ago that being smug is a very risky business, you never know what’s around the corner to wipe that big smug smile off your face.
Not, fortunately for me, that I ever was smug, but, like Varian, I felt quite fortunate.
I think life is a big challenge, it tests you from start to finish, if, you manage to get to this age without any serious problems, you are extraordinarily lucky.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Apr-23 08:28:51

Sticking my head above the parapet, I think
some on GN are happy to share all life experiences both good and bad, whilst some tend to share only happiness.

Others use GN to off load problems and/or worries here rather than burden friends and family.

Not sure it makes people smug or needy just makes us all different indeed unique…

It is not about celebrating our good fortune, but more about appreciating the struggles that some of our fellow gransnetters have had to overcome misfortune

It seems like your post has been mis-construed varian - I didn't think you were being smug. Just recognising that some seem to have more than their fair share of mis-fortune.

And I don't believe there is a typical gransnetter either!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Apr-23 08:33:34

I agree Dickens 👍🏻

Sarah75 Tue 11-Apr-23 08:48:20

The typical GNer probably never actually posts, only reads some threads………. Our of the ?thousands who are members of GN, I imagine only a few post, and of those, there is a vociferous group of regulars.
Our town has a Facebook page and frequently has many, mostly negative, posts in reaction to local news. But these people are not ‘typical’ of our local inhabitants.

FannyCornforth Tue 11-Apr-23 08:51:14

Sarah that’s definitely food for thought…

Joseanne Tue 11-Apr-23 09:03:38

And going by this thread, the quintessential (fav word!) GNetter misconstrues half of what is meant anyway!

maddyone Tue 11-Apr-23 09:05:04

I think you’ve nailed it Fanny. And as Sarah says, don’t forget the ‘votes Labour,’ or Green, or Liberal Democrat! Anything but Tory really, although I think there are one or two Tory voters on here. Well about five I think.

Spot on Sarah. Very few gransnetters are regular posters compared to the regular readers. At one time there was a mildly pejorative name for members who didn't post, but I can't remember what it was.

Redhead56 Tue 11-Apr-23 09:18:49

I have never been described as typical if anything I have been called eccentric different out spoken kind opinionated etc etc.

None of us are typical we have lived different lives. I’m an individual and unique as is everyone else.

Ooops, wrong thread, please ignore.

Franbern Tue 11-Apr-23 09:26:31

I do not think Varian sounds smug. She is just being honest and realising that she is lucky enough to be having a good life at the present.

Most of us have times of hardship and tragedy in our lives, particularly as we reach the so-called 'golden years'. The death of my youngest son at 25 years of age, 21 years ago was a total tragedy. The death of my parents, although totally missed and mourned was NOT - just normal as both in their 80's when they died.

I must admit that GN has shown how many parents and AC seem to be estranged from each other, and I find that dreadfully sad. My older brother was with his three children (his fault entirely) and never ever saw his youngest daughter. I keep in close contact with them all.

I have had some dreadfully difficult times in my adult life - and every day I recognise how fortunate I am now in being very happy in where I live, love my flat, have good contact with all five of my children and eight g.children. Life is good for me now - not smug, just very very grateful.

FannyCornforth Tue 11-Apr-23 09:30:51

Parsley ‘lurker’?

I don’t know whether or not Varian sounds smug, but I still don’t understand the point of the opening post, or what the thread was intended to achieve.

Parsley3 Tue 11-Apr-23 09:42:19

Thank you Fanny. I had twerker in my head but knew that wasn't right. I am with you as to the purpose of the OP but the question is now answered. A typical Gnetter reads but doesn't post.
