Keeping up appearances - or not!

Now that I live alone I am frequently to be found still in my pj’s at 11 or later having read the paper online, dealt with emails, Facebook, GN and WhatsApp. And sometimes the current book. I may have put a load through the machine or hung up what was washed overnight unobserved as nobody can see into my garden.
Judging by the Good Morning thread though, many others have put in a day’s work before I am even vertical.
However I am encouraged by the occasional sighting of my neighbour -at least while my hornbeam hedge was bare - in her conservatory at the same time, still in her dressing gown.
#sluttygran or is it OK to do what I want when I want and nobody’s business but my own?

I personally don’t think it’s anyone else’s business what you wear in your own house, if you want to wear pjs all day then do it. But I like to get dressed after my shower and put my nightwear on around 8pm. The only time I wear pjs in the day is if I was poorly. I’ve always done it and that’s how I am I’m not going to change now.

Do what you want. I'm only dressed now, 11:52am, because I have a hospital appointment this afternoon and I have a 50 mile drive to get there.

you said it Lady, nobody’s business but yours. I pull on a track suit bottom and top which I keep by the side of my bed.
I also put on some lippy after brushing my teeth. Each to their own, just don’t be stressed by your own behaviours. 💐

Well, I’m having a quiet morning today as well. I’m normally up fairly early and walk our dog with a friend but she’s elsewhere today. So Doggy and I have sauntered round the garden and are now catching up with admin, social media etc.

I solve the PJ problem by wearing a full length kaftan that means I look fairly respectable when I answer the door or go into the garden. Good prices on cotton ones in lovely fabrics from our local market.

And I’ll be busy till late tonight, so today is more of an ‘owl’ day rather than a ‘lark’ day!

Each to their own, I think! 🌷🌷🌷

I make a judgement call if I want to hang washing on the line in my dressing gown. If next doors blinds are still closed I'll nip out. Otherwise I wait until I'm dressed.

DamaskRose Wed 19-Apr-23 12:00:41

I like to read in bed for an hour or so so get up about 9 o’clock. I always shower and get dressed as soon as a I get up but having read all the above I’m seriously thinking about carefully chosen bottoms and roomy fleecy tops for my not going out days! I might have to put mascara on though or the postie definitely would think I was unwell!!

leeds22 Wed 19-Apr-23 12:02:13

I hang the washing out in my pj's too. I think the people in the holiday let next door get a bit of a surprise but they'll be gone by the weekend!

So glad to see others enjoying my kind of lifestyle Sometimes I think I must be too lazy

I'm not a pyjamas person, but in your own home I feel you can wear what you like when you like.

Every morning I get dressed in joggers, and a top of some sort.. they're 'home clothes'' I wouldn't dream of going out in them but they're fine for around the house and garden.

My goodness, a lot of these look just like summer dresses!

I usually get dressed in the morning because I take my granddaughter to school and wouldn't go in my PJs - though I have seen some people obviously wearing them under their coats or trousers.

harrysgran Wed 19-Apr-23 12:21:07

After years of been up at 6 and dress for work since retiring last July I happily stay in my pj's till lunch time some days

Knittynatter Wed 19-Apr-23 12:25:46

I have commitments everyday except Friday when I generally work from home in my nightie (very frock like) with a cardi. I shower about 5:30pm and put on joggers and a jumper for a stroll across the fields. I love my life!

Siope

One of the pleasures of retirement, for me, is not having to get up and bustle about in the morning.

I do try not to judge people who are naturally morning people though; I know it’s not their fault, and there’s nothing intrinsically worse about their habits.

No, we must try not to judge them even though they can be irritating when they are so upbeat at 6.30 am grin

I am not a morning person.

I’m so glad to meet so many others like me! My husband gets up and dressed as soon as he wakes up, and he goes downstairs to feed the cats and usually to mess about on his computer. I usually sit in bed with a cup of tea and my iPad and read the papers online and catch up with various forums and play Scrabble and other computer games I like. I eventually get dressed somewhere around 10:30-11 am unless I have a reason to be up earlier.

i live in my pj's 24/7, i have been house bound for the last month, i shower, wash my hair and then put on clean pj's bottoms with a t-shirt, i don't see any point in wearing out door clothes when i am just sitting about, i would rather be comfortable. who cares if the postman or the person who delivers my shopping sees me, it is my house and i can do what i like.

Soniah Wed 19-Apr-23 13:55:33

Just been life drawing so up dressed and out of the door by 8.30am, another day I might still be in bed listening to the radio at 9.30am, I don't like lying in bed in hot weather and I don't like living in pjs but I have no problem with those who do. I do enjoy wearing something decent sometimes (not really dressed up but a shirt and velvet jeans or a 'T-shirt' dress) as I get fed up with wearing gardening or painting (I'm an artist) clothes but most of mine are colourful and easy to wear and from charity shops (bought a lovely as new Gudrun sjoden dress for a tenner last week and a seasalt tin cloth coat) so I don't worry about messing them up and they wash well. I feel more ready to get on with life if I'm dressed than in pj's 😊

So you won’t be in the queue for the opening posts on the GM thread? 🤣🤣🤣

Callistemon21 Wed 19-Apr-23 14:02:36

I gave up on the Good Morning thread ages ago, Foxygloves, it was nearly over by the time I stopped to look 😂

Mind you, I had put on six loads of washing and thoroughly cleaned the house from top to bottom by the time I stopped for a coffee and to look at GN.
Not to mention mowing the lawn and weeding the garden
😇

MrsNemo Wed 19-Apr-23 14:32:59

I get up quite early, but am often still in my dressing gown at 10 am. This is because I wait on the cats and dogs, answer emails, make beds, sort and get laundry going in the machine, often dust around the house and make phone calls. Then I indulge myself with a shower, hairwash, makeup and clean clothes. I'm ready to walk dogs at about eleven! If you are happy in your nightlcothes, gardening clothes, or no clothes - good for you!

BigBertha1 Wed 19-Apr-23 14:42:44

I'm with Doodledog on this one!

Anniel Wed 19-Apr-23 16:04:12

I wander around in my nightie until I get in the shower. I read emails look at WhatsApp, have my morning tea ( very important and I drink Waitrose gold pack as we can get Waitrose stuff here. I love being in my nightie. Nobody is interested in what I wear. My nighties are cotton knit and hide all my bits and pieces. Wear whatever you like …it is a retirement joy!

Davida1968 Wed 19-Apr-23 16:50:49

I think "bohemian" has identified a significant issue, which is that it depends on why a person is spending all day (or a lot of time) in their PJs. If they are pottering about happily, then that's one thing, but if it's due to being too depressed to get "up and moving", then (IMO) that's quite another matter. I know of someone who suffers with depresssion; she was advised strongly (by her GP, who also prescribed anti-depressants) to get showered and dressed every day.

Cossy Wed 19-Apr-23 16:54:58

It’s absolutely fine and more than ok to do exactly what you want, when you want & how you want - enjoy ! smile

4allweknow Wed 19-Apr-23 17:22:17

Fancythat some of the nightwear look like dresses I have been seeing online for summer holiday/wearing as cover up at the pool.
