🤣🤣 Clawdy I always start squeaking ‘We are the police’ when that comes on. I can’t help myself!

Hey I do that too!😂

I liked the rapper singing on the Just Eat ad, trouble is these ads make me hungry.

The drumming gorilla - chocolate advert, the Smash aliens and there used to be an ad' for crisps with little singing potatoes! Loved that one...

I like the one for Cadbury chocolate where the young lady, working at the petrol station, says "love you dad". It always makes me smile

I like that one too. And the other Cadbury’s one where the shop keeper takes buttons and coins from a little girl , who wants to buy the chocolate for her mums birthday

I loved the Volkswagen one years ago, where the woman gets her divorce papers, gets in her car, looks sad for a minute, then drives off beaming, with "Young At Heart" pounding away on her radio.

I don't really watch much live TV now, but I do remember fondly the Cadbury's Caramel Bunny one and the Knorr Stock Cubes 'Pea and ham, from a chicken? Now that's clever!'

The Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny was voiced by Miriam Margolyes

The old Boddington’s ale ones - a very glam, beautifully dressed woman putting what looks like face cream on her face, followed by handsome chap in a dinner jacket saying, ‘By the ‘eck love, you smell gorgeous tonight!’ (It was the foam off the top of the ale.)

And the other, a man in what looks like a Venetian gondola, with what looks like (from above) an ice cream, to the tune of ‘O solo mio…’. (Just one Cornetto) - whereupon woman coming
in the other direction in gondola grabs the ‘ice cream’ (his beer) and bloke says, ‘That Gladys Althorp, she never buys her own!’

Both still,on YouTube I think - why don’t they make them like that any more??

And the one for Batchelor’s SuperNoodles IIRC - where two young blokes are complaining about their girlfriends’ disgusting habits, e.g. using their razors and leaving bristly bits in the washbasin - before both licking their plates clean instead of washing them, and putting them away in the cupboard! 😂

Comedy genius is sadly lacking in our ads now.

Witzend the girl in the Boddington’s ad was Melanie Sykes

Witzend Tue 04-Jul-23 09:00:16

Afraid to say I had never heard of Melanie Sykes! But there are so many actors etc. of whom I could say the same….

However I do know the other in the ‘Venetian’ Gondola one - it was Anna Chancellor - Duck-Face in Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Mr Bingley’s unmarried sister in the BBC P&P.

Hardly ever see an advert now with recordings etc, but I remember mentioning to a woman at a drinks party ages ago that I loved ‘glamour’ ads, say perfume, set in Paris or Italy with beautiful people.
She looked at me pityingly😁

Me too - the timing is perfection

Wrigley's Extra. Just seen it. It wouldn’t make me buy the chewing gum, but it was fun to watch.

i had no idea what that one was about, i just found it faintly creepy.
i didn't hear either of them say anything comprehensible.
and the one with the night watchman; had no idea that he was becoming a chef.
i obviously cannot decode the modern idiom.
i like things that are simple; koala's ears, fairy baby.

I remember an ad for Cointreau featuring a very attractive ‘ Frenchman’, saying ‘ grad ually, the ice melts’!

There was also a very clever one for a car ( I think) where the boy asks his dad where did he come from, then it cuts to a song about the birds and the bees, and ends with the boy saying that that was funny because Jimmy Johnson came from Edinburgh ( or another city)
