Worse than finding a spider

Spiders,i sects no problem,rats are a different story.
There was an article in a paper about rats crawling up the sewer pipes and being found in the toilet eergh!!, I only have one toilet in a ground floor flat,getting up for the toilet several times in the night light goes on ,lid up,and close inspection before action.
Yesterday whilst clearing and tidying in the garden,I found a flattened,hollowed out rat carcas,stiff,and with fur,gloves,shovel,and bravery required as no one nearby.
Last night I hardly slept imagining rats in the toilet escaping.

We found a dedicated rat carcass in the garden a few months ago.
I saw another live one yesterday, loathe them!

I found a large, intricate cobweb in one of my shoes this morning 😃

Much as I dislike spiders in my conservatory, there is a small one with long legs which lives under the cupboard in the downstairs loo. It just comes out at night and I chat to it, but do worry that there's not much in the way of spider food in there.
I left a dead fly for it the other evening, which was gone in the morning.

I need to find a name for it.

Those white tail spiders are nasty nanna8. I put on a hired wetsuit in New Zealand and one of the little beasts hiding in it bit me on the ankle. My leg swelled up and I could barely walk to the plane a few days later. Luckily I had a week in Sydney where I was prescribed antibiotics, and could finally get my shoe on to fly home.

Spiders here can kill you. I never touch them, even if they are not one of the recognised ‘deadly’ ones. They used to say the white tails were harmless once until they realised that on some people the bite sets off deadly skin rot and never heals.

Bella23 I expect you had rolled onto it/squashed it a bit. I can't imagine they would bite a person just for fun!
Horrible though..

I woke up like Joseann feeling sick, unworldly and with a peculiar feeling in my arm. We live in what was a barn and when we see spiders they are enormous. You could see the bite mark in a lump that developed. I now do not believe anyone who says spiders don't bite, they do. DH found it the next day and killed it.

My in-laws used to live in an old converted barn with a double height sitting room (up to the beams).

The spiders there were the size of a man's hand and very heavy.
They would drop down suddenly in the evening in front of the fireplace with a definite thump and then dash off noisily.

Like cartoon characters we would all lift our legs simultaneously off the floor...

It's still a talking point amongst the family - the children would say (about big spiders in our house) "at least it's not one of Granddad's"! They truly were massive.

Last night in bed I had an awful pain in my left shoulder, all down my arm, and my hand went numb and tingly. I even had to move quickly to get to the bathroom and felt sick too. Horrible. I almost thought it could be a heart attack. Got very little sleep.
This morning DH looked at my upper back and there was a red crater where a spider has obviously injected its venom. Still painful, but coping.
Watch out! They're on their way! 🕷 🕷

I would give insects a lot of respect in countries where they are likely to be poisenous.

The only insects I hate are wasps. When I was a small child one stung me on the lip (without provocation) and my face swelled up, I had to be taken to A&E. Since then Ive given them a wide berth and they are the only insect I will kill just to get rid of it. I usually try leaving the doors open to see if they will leave.

No problem with spiders, daddy long legs, moths etc. I also love reptiles which most people find peculiar, love tortoises.

We never did find the spider. It may be a while before I move the sofa though. Just in case!!!!

This reminds me of 'What's worse than finding a maggot in your apple? ... 'Finding half a maggot! I'm truly scared of wasps - especially indoors or in confined spaces. I once leaped from a taxi at the lights, surprising the driver!

I can catch and put outside any spiders, flies, mice, still I cannot bring myself to get close enough to a wasp - so it's me that goes outside until I find a hero.

I’m now adept after being scared, I couldn’t show my fear to my son, I get a big glass, pop it over the spider, slips a card underneath, carefully walk down the garden path and then deposit it next door.

Is not finding the bumble bee that buzzes past your ear and heads over the sofa!

I wanted to rescue it but can't find it.

Spiders terrify me, though, even the ones with very small bodies & thin legs. I cannot rest if I know one is around, and I can tell by spider poo on my window ledges, ugh.

That’s why I stopped having a compost bin!

Spiders are not my favourite creature but over time I've been getting used to them - as long as they don't crawl on me. We have loads in our shed and I keep bird and hedgehog food there so have spiders as company when I'm dolling out the food to the wild life. I get the feeling I'm being stared at but they don't bother me which helps me get used to them. They have a right to be there I tell myself.
It's in the house I don't like them. The smaller ones are OK but occasionally we get a fat bodied one but again I'm getting better at removing them - I don't want to kill them so out comes the glass, or if they're smaller I have a spider tube which is easy for me to put the creature outside.
We're lucky in the UK. There are no eight legged enemies really that can hurt us - it's just their appearance!

That spider will be on the look out for those germ ridden flies. Look after him.

Cockroaches. Hate,hate,hate them. They are so fast and black and yucky. They have cockroach races in Brisbane,so I hear. Nasty. Even my cats don’t like them. I can’t help it but if I see one I scream, even when I am alone.

I have a phobia about birds and finding a dead one in my raspberry bushes totally freaked me out! DH had to deal with it.

I am only cautious around black widow and brown recluse spiders here I am quite tolerant of the others as well as the centipedes I see occasionally I hate the blackbeetles which come out of the drains and the flies coming in from outside on sanitary grounds and am happy to have the spider and centipede cleanup crew!

Oh, my goodness, millipedes and centipedes absolutely make my skin crawl…🤦‍♀️

I once lived in an ancient beamed cottage. One Winter's night, with all the windows closed, a bat flew down the stairs. I was terrified, I find them very spooky. Much running around waving a spatula...until it eventually flew out the back door.
