Has anyone mentioned Je T’aime by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin? It was banned in a few countries and the BBC banned it here.

Standing on the corner watching all the girls go by had lyrics something like 'Brother you can't go to jail for what you're thinking'. As someone has already said, they were of their time.

Come On, Eileen has some dreadful words in the verses, as l discovered recently. We all sing the chorus with relish as it is so catchy.
There are two more songs that are very dated but for a different reason. When I'm 64 suggests that anyone over the age of sixty is frail, feeble and ancient. This might have been the view of young people in the sixties but there are many ninety year ols who are more alert than the 64 year old of the song. The other dodgy lyric was sung by The Who as they have lived long enough to regret the line: "Hope l die before l get old."

I don't think we would get the "death discs" these days, remember:

i find it so poingnant, that even in such a situation, she has the manners to send a message via her maid regarding a social engagement.
i presume it's her maid, musing on the whole event.
it reminds me of traditional ballads; it sounds quite light at the beginning, until the whole story unfolds, then there is a kind of sad resignation.

I agree, "Young Girl" sounds dodgy but he's trying to do the right thing. In one way, I can understand the problem. Many underage girls dress, look and act much older and if a 15 year old girl tells a 21 year old guy that she's 18, and she looks 18, what's he to do? Hopefully, as the song implies, he finds out before it's too late.

"Stand By Your Man" was my mother's favourite song, and I could never understand why! Yes, it's a catchy tune but the lyrics are terrible!

There's a song by Reba McEntire called, "Whoever's in New England", about a wife who knows her husband is cheating on her, but she's telling him that when "Whoever's in New England" is fed up with him, she'll still be there to take him back. Another song with a catchy tune and terrible lyrics!

Doesn't stop me listening and singing along to them though! 🤦‍♂️

My Baby Takes The Morning Train was (written especially for Sheena Easton) after she won some sort of talent spotting thingy on BBC.
She was heavily championed by Esther Rantzen and the That’s Life team and featured in the documentary The Big Time about her rise to fame.🎤

This was all some time before she came within Princes’ (artist formerly known as) orbit
I thought it was all a bit naff at the time but …what did I know.
She was quite impressive on “You’ve Got The Look” with him, I watched it on YouTube t’other day😊

Welbeck I love absolutely everything by Cole Porter.

There is an absolutely brilliant album called Red Hot and Blue with interpretations of Porter’s work by contemporary artists. Thinking about it, it’s probably my favourite album ever.

I always hated those and switched the radio off if one of them started.

I never liked Chestnut Mare by the Byrds.

I was about 15 when Young Girl came out and I knew some young girls who behaved in a risky way, like that.
I see no problems with the song.
