Good morning from Cornwall where sun is promised today plus, we are told, 80,000 people arriving to see the tall ships. Watched one of them arrive yesterday with cannons firing, horns blaring, flags flying and the masts adorned with sailors, as per this photo. An awesome sight and somewhat poignant, as my dad used to paint them from his studio not far from where I was sitting.

Watched Extraordinary Portraits on BBC iplayer last night, inspiring. Today, I'm meeting with a prayer friend at her house. Thanks karmalady for suggesting yesterday that I vary craft pursuits to relieve discomfort.

Hello all. It’s 3 pm in Port McQuarry, so I’ve had breakfast and lunch. I borrowed my brother’s partner’s car today to drive my brother and I to a rain forest centre. It was amazing. We had lunch whilst been harassed by wild turkeys! The weather is warm and I am looking forward to squash risotto tonight. Have a good rest of the day.
Here’s some photos (some of you may recognise the dress!)

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 15-Aug-23 06:18:03

I don’t know where the photos are!

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 15-Aug-23 06:20:00

I’ll try again!

Good morning Mick and all from Oxfordshire, I haven’t looked out at the weather yet, but as i am oven cleaning this morning it doesn’t really matter what the weather is doing.
I had a pneumococcal jab yesterday evening but apart from a sore arm no other side effects, apparently the jab can also help to prevent Meningitis and septicaemia, who knew?
Have a good day everyone, my thoughts are with all those grans who are unwell or looking after poorly folks.

Good morningMick and all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and cloudy. Mizuna that will be a spectacle for sure.
Yesterday was a good day. Lovely sunshine for the boys. We fed the cygnets in the park, played and ran around and dgs2 slept for two and a half hours in the afternoon. Mum was sitting up last night but didn't remember it was her birthday. She has very little short term memory left.
Today is another childcare one. I'm not sure what we'll do. Dgs2 has a doctor's appointment this morning so DD will pick him up and bring him back. Maybe a railway station visit to please dgs1. Have a good day all

Grandmabatty Tue 15-Aug-23 06:24:02

Ladyleftfieldlover I recognise that dress!

Good morning from a sunny Bristol.
I had an agitated night and have woken up later than I normally do.
I had planned to go out for hot chocolate or something, then was told they would arrive late and spend barely a hour. Then the girls came over earlier that I had thought. So plans shelved earlier, we had a drink at home and played Rummikub. They never played it at home though they have hundreds of games, including one I gave them years ago.
It reminded me of DD aged about 5, playing with my parents who were veterans of the game. DD having picked up the rules in record time, won almost every time, to the annoyance and admiration of her grandparents!
When DD arrived, she “helped” me plan what furniture I would give away and what/where it would be replaced with/go. Our ideas emphatically do not coincide, but hers will prevail for the sake of “a piece of quiet”…. I’ll get used to it.
Today is busy with tai chi, a walk with a church lady and a home haircut.
Have a gentle day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a sunny South Yorkshire, thank goodness as the engineer is coming to change my electricity meter this morning and it’s outside. GS is coming over and the plan is to make proper Cornish pasties. It’s a huge faff and it takes ages, but it’s something he enjoys doing.
Mizuna I would love to see your tall ships. DD has done a couple of sailing holiday out of Charlestown on the Bessie Ellen. I have a video of her taking the wheel. She looks very capable!
Have the best day you can folks.

ginny Tue 15-Aug-23 06:55:19

Good morning. It looks like there is sun outside.
A visit to the Needles is planned for today. However DGS2 was sick in the night so will have to see how he is.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Nannagarra Tue 15-Aug-23 06:58:01

Good morning from Sefton where I’ve been awake since ‘Wake Up To Money’ time. It’s dry so unlikely that I’ll be knitting, though as one ball isn’t quite the correct shade a trip to the wool shop figures in my plans. Mizuna’s discussion with karmalady prompts me to reflect that M’s father also painted trains. A few years ago she displayed a photo of his work for sale on this thread, I think.
Several juvenile jade plants are lined up on my kitchen window sill, ready to be given to away. A friend has a lemon geranium for me. Having lost mine, I’ve been keen to have another. My MiL, and, in turn, her MiL were fans. WWM2 has inspired me to refresh my displays for winter. I could effect this while listening to the programmes advocated by DH on BBC Sounds.
Whatever your plans, have the best Tuesday possible. My thoughts, as always, go to Urms, Kalu and others with worries and troubles.

Good morning from a sunny South Downs.

Yesterday went as planned - house in order for the week. A neighbour popped in with her two little boys to ask for their ball back - I didn’t know it was in the garden - and they had fun scrambling in around the shrubs “finding” stuff they had lost, and throwing it back into their garden. Doesn’t say much for my gardening!! Mum and I had a cup of coffee and chat.

My plan is to weed today and enjoy what is forecast to be a summers day. Quite a change after the autumnal weather we have been having. I shall also pick flowers for the house. The second flush of roses are starting so plenty to choose from. Mum gave me a crystal rose bowl, so I always try to fill that every week in her memory.

Today we are having the chicken chow mien we should have had yesterday, but we had a veggie rice dish for lunch and we were still too full for anything much by dinner time. So I had a bag of popcorn🙄.

Enjoy your day folk.

Good morning from a bright and sunny Torbay. ☀️

A great photo, Mizuna, although the event brings poignant memories for you. And you look very relaxed in yours, LLFL! A lovely dress!

It sounds like that’s a rather super vaccine, Oopsadaisy1 - is it a new thing?

grandMattie: Years ago, if I sat down with a cuppa, my DS used to say, “Are you having a piece of quiet, Mummy?”

Your comment about “living the life” made me smile, Susan56! We’ve all had days like that, I expect.

Last night's audience was the liveliest so far. They were very ready to laugh and applaud and actually booed at the sight of us as German sailors! I felt like I was in a pantomime! Six more performances to go.

Today I’m out for lunch with the Props team at Three Degrees West, a beachside restaurant only accessed by the funicular railway (recently repaired) or a very steep climb!

Enjoy whatever the day brings! 🦩🥰😎💐🦩

Morning all, not sure what the weather is going to be like today, but it’s bright at the moment.

We have The Imp today, he is going through a naughty imp phase he really played DD up last night, so today will be interesting.

My thoughts are with our morning friends who are poorly, troubled or nursing loved ones.

Mizuna Tue 15-Aug-23 07:05:24

Yes Nanagarra, my dad painted steam trains. You have a good memory! I tried to photograph Wetherspoons' roof garden yesterday, by the way, but it's completely surrounded by trees so all I could see were leaves! Better view in the Autumn.

Grammaretto Tue 15-Aug-23 07:06:23

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Light and bright here.

I've woken with a cold and backache. Most annoying!
I was planning to take the Brazilian helpers out somewhere nice as it's their second last day. May have to alter plans.
They have worked so hard . I came home from a day out in Edinburgh, to a spotless bedroom yesterday though unfortunately she had put a load of washing in the machine including a favourite hand-knitted wool cardigan!
sad
He lifted the horseradish which was taking over the veg plot. It sounds an easy job but I can assure you it isn't!

gMattie I was going to tell you to stand up to DD but then I remembered I can never stand up to mine. 😉 I hope you like the result as it's you who has to live with it.
Those tall ships look amazing Mizuna
It must have been quite a sight.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning from Denmark!
Sounds like everyone has a busy and positive day planned.
I travelled 48 hours from Siberia to get to Denmark using 4 planes, 1 metro, 1 train and a bus. Will be here 2 weeks with D . Lovely!
Have a great day everyone!

GrannySomerset Tue 15-Aug-23 07:15:57

Back with you all after being booted out yesterday for some reason - every now and again my password doesn’t work and I have to reset it, a nuisance and an unnecessary tax on my memory.

Early start as I am off on a WI trip to Slimbridge which will be fun but may be a bit demanding. Can always retreat to the coffee shop when I have had enough. Otherwise life is plum shaped as I have another huge bag of beautiful Victorias to deal with. The neighbours will be awash with plums! Have made 12 lbs of jam and have quantities of stewed plums in the freezer and am running out of space. A nice problem to have!

Nannagarra Tue 15-Aug-23 07:17:36

I’m looking forward to the autumn (feels wrong without a capital letter but indicative of my age) photo, Mizuna.
Oh, yes, invading horseradish, Grammaretto, and its mates: mint, bamboo, plumbago, houttuynia cordata. And don’t get me started on ground elder…
😂

RosesandLilac Tue 15-Aug-23 07:21:09

A wonderful sunny sky here, good morning!
Yesterday I spent the morning sorting out my drawers in the bedroom and wardrobes, I have far too much despite my efforts to get rid of clothes. I still struggle to pare things down and probably don’t wear 50% of them but am reluctant to let them go. Silly really!
I walked the dog in gentle rain, it was actually rather lovely, peaceful too.
Today a hair appointment first thing then I intend to sit in the sun with my book.
Have a lovely day 🌹

Pittcity Tue 15-Aug-23 07:25:48

Good morning from sunny Colchester. I've just put the bins out and it is already quite warm. The forecast is 23 and dry.
I'm spending the day volunteering at the charity shop as is usual for a Tuesday.
Love to all 🦩 x

Bigred18 Tue 15-Aug-23 07:27:20

Welcome to Sydney/NSW Ladylflover! Lovely weather for winter isnt it! Ive never been to Port Macquarie but I believe it's lovely, enjoy your visit to Oz.

monk08 Tue 15-Aug-23 07:27:21

Good morning all from a sunny Black country after yesterday's nonstop rain it's very welcome.
Gosh Juliee that's a lot of travelling over 2 days but worth it for your 2wks with D.
No plans as yet for the day, other than DH needs to fill the car up, I lead a very exciting life not.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.
