Yes, bravo- the right attitude. Of course mobility scooters can be really useful, but I do think it is a mistake to get one 'too early' and to stop moving- in fact the worst thing one can do.

In admiration x

Serendipity. Bloody good for you! ⭐️

Great idea Serendipity22! Not only have you dealt with your problem in a sensible way, you've also brightened up the day for the 99.9% of fellow shoppers. As for the 0.1%, it sounds as if something different is no bad thing for them to experience! More power to your camping stool, and perhaps you should give serious thought to the barbecue... grin

Brilliant solution.. I was only thinking today that shops no longer seem to have chairs for customers whereas it was common practise when I was young...

I think if I was in your situation, I’d have groceries delivered - then go for a walk in the park / woods / countryside taking the stool with me. But then I dislike food shopping and I love being outside!

I was about to say that!

Less than mobile after surgery Mr C was given a stick that unfolds into a seat. There’s a sort of tripod that comes out at the bottom to keep it steady. He uses it now. When he doesn’t want it I’ll take it when I’m having a bad fibro day and if I need to us it to sit down on the way round a supermarket thr so be it. Needs must I think. Good for you serendipity.

The camping stool is a very good idea. We should keep going any way we can and I have sat on rocks, fallen trees and anywhere with a
flatish surface when my legs needed a rest on my walks.
I have sometimes ended up with a damp derriere though.

Last week I was at a weekend reunion about 16 of us all roughly my age 73 . Some had mobility issues and several like me joint replacements or waiting for one. I was the only one using a stick. I use a hiking stick when I’m in an area I’m not too familiar with as my balance isn’t great . It really helps and gives me confidence to take bigger strides thus improving my balance. I wasn’t exactly laughed at but there were some comments about little old ladies and sticks which was annoying, especially as one of the group did fall on the cobbled street. Go for whatever keeps you out and about for as long as you can . I’m grateful for all the nice benches in our high street!

Good for you at least you are making the effort to go out still. I would probably do the same if my knees would allow it.

Serendipity, so far I have not had to make any alternative arrangements. However I applaud your way of taking a rest in the supermarket, good on you ! If I were to sit on a camping stool I am not sure my old pins would allow me to rise with ease!!!!! Camping stool at the ready and why not - biscuit aisle is as good a place as any 😊!

Firstly let me say that no way hosay is this post a Woe is me post.

Right, so I have M.S and am starting to find walking round our local Asda hard work.. soooo I decided to take along a little camping stool so when I needed to sit, I had something to sit on ( either that or park my derriere on a crate of beans )

The time arrives when I am needing to sit and rest for 5....6 minutes, out of my trolley comes my camping stool, I set it up alongside the shelves of biscuits. Picture the scene.... there is moi sat on the stool in the biscuit aisle, while various shoppers pass with their trolley's, 99.9% smile the other 1% looks at me like I have lost the plot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( hahahaha )

I don't want to get a delivery nor use 1 of the store scooters, I need to walk and use my legs and if it means resting on my camping stool then so be it.....

My friend said *Thank goodness you didn't put up your tent and start cooking a BBQ" hahahahahaha.

So my question is... what lengths have you gone to to rectify matters?
