Good evening Kitcheners. Blossoming I wondered at the double mention 😂. Brook safe journey tomorrow. Ladyleftfieldlover I love Led Zeppelin. I bet it's really interesting. Neine I'm sitting now!
Today wasn't as easy as yesterday. Dgs2 was grumpy this morning and had a few mini tantrums. He is coming out of them quicker than before,so I'll take that as a win. We went for a walk and I let him choose where we walked. That worked well. I had to nip to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and he was good. Then we went to Aldi to get something for his lunch and he was good again. He ate more than half of a ready meal chicken curry and napped for two hours. After we picked up his brother, they had fun adorning my back door with chalk. I'll wash it off tomorrow. I visited mum at night and she was quieter but fairly compos mentis. I've just had a pizza for dinner and I'm on the couch. My sciatica is bothering me a bit, so I will be in bed early I think. Take care all

Grandmabatty Tue 24-Oct-23 19:43:16

I almost never feed the boys ready meals but today I needed to have an easy day.

RosiesMaw Tue 24-Oct-23 20:34:20

Enjoying the sleep of the just after the trauma of a trip to the vet today with a(nother) pulled dew claw. Poor Rosie yelped all night every time she knocked it so we both felt a bit rough this morning.
I say “yelped” but it was more GSOD (greyhound scream of death) which is pretty scary to hear.
So we have had a quiet afternoon recuperating and normal service will be restored ASAP
I’m watching “Dream Horse” at the moment, please don’t tell me it’s going to be a weepie- I don’t think I could cope!

gillgran Tue 24-Oct-23 20:42:30

Hello to you all in soop's friendly kitchen.

I do hope that annsixty is feeling more settled after that upsetting incident the other day.

Safe journey brook, enjoy your time with family in lovely Cambridge.

Our daughter & 2 DGDs came today, (on the guided bus from Cambridge), we picked them up from St.,Ives, (roughly half way between their home & ours). They are staying until the weekend, great fun, but Granny & Grandad will be tired!!

Thinking of you all, especially those with extra worries & problems.

Grandmabatty Tue 24-Oct-23 21:08:58

Is Rosie ok RosiesMaw?

RosiesMaw Tue 24-Oct-23 21:14:55

She’s fine now thank you ! Resting her eyes as per usual.
I hated seeing her so sorry for herself and I couldn’t “make it better” - animals are so dependent on us aren’t they, they can be just like small children and this “Mum” was feeling very helpless!

Jaxjacky Tue 24-Oct-23 21:55:19

Route march for you neine AWOL, but excused, your house is very busy.
Good you got out llfl take it steady though, back to normal soon.
Good grief Grandmabatty a ready meal is perfectly acceptable, your day seems to have averaged out on a plus.
We’ll gloss over quiz last night, doing alright until the last round then 👎.
Cleaning today of the bathrooms, tedious, then a duster around the spare bedrooms, we have a friend staying tonight, so I showed willing.
It’s raining now and we’re on a weather warning overnight down south, it’s unlikely to be anywhere near as bad us those struggling in the north, dreadful for them.
I’ll wish you all a quiet night.

brook2704 Tue 24-Oct-23 22:24:50

I think if I was doing as much as you do grandmabatty then ready meals would feature on the menu quite often Honestly you do such a lot that anything that makes things a bit easier has to be a bonus!
Pleased to hear Rosie is a bit better maw poor doggie 🐶
I often get the guided bus from my DDs into Cambridge gillgran - it always says St Ives on the front so I’ll think of you next time! Enjoy your time with your family too

SueDonim Tue 24-Oct-23 23:25:15

A quick check in from me!
LLFL I love that colour. The dining room in our previous house was that red. It was a massive room for a modern house (16ft square’) and not welcoming but once it was dark red it was much cosier.
That’s fascinating, Rosiesmaw. Those letters are to be treasured.
Well done to the new drivers amongst Kitcheners grandchildren!
Busy, busy, Neine!
Safe travels, Brook. What’s a ‘guided bus’, btw?

I’m just taking a few minutes before dinner to catch up here. We had an extremely busy weekend but now everyone else has departed so it’s just Dh, dd2 and me here with the family. Serenity reigns! The weather is gorgeous, it was 78deg in ‘Murrican’ terms today - is that about 25C? - and beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

The famed American ‘fall’ is happening around us. When we arrived the flora was mainly green with touches of autumnal shades and now, esp after the first frost two nights ago, it’s mainly yellow/orange/rust with touches of greenery. There are some shrubs in gardens that are a brilliant pink/cerise/red that I have never seen in the UK. I am making it my mission to find out what they are.

Here are some pumpkins I spotted today. The Halloween decorations in gardens are insane!

Catterygirl Wed 25-Oct-23 00:26:00

Just popping by to say good night to all you lovely ladies in the kitchen.
So many people are bitter on some forums but not on this thread.

Ali23 Wed 25-Oct-23 02:39:25

I couldn’t agree more, Catterygirl.

I don’t post very often as I don’t have much of interest to say really, but this thread is a great comfort.

Grandmabatty Wed 25-Oct-23 08:38:43

Thank you Brook and Jaxjacky. I feel bad if I don't feed them homemade stuff. Dgs2 loves soup and can usually polish off an adult size bowl but I gave him soup on Monday so wanted something different for lunch. We're both fans of lentil soup. Suedonim the fall colours in USA seem spectacular. I'm quite envious

Yiayia4 Wed 25-Oct-23 15:40:25

Hope your feeling better* Annsixty.*What a terrible think to happen.
Great pic Sue.

Still no power at home so at DS1 for another night!Work to be done tomorrow thank goodness it’s been a nightmare. Not been a good week I had to get antibiotics from my old GP now as I have a sinus infection from the covid.🤧It can only get better now.👍
Hope your chilling today Grandmabatty.
Have a good afternoon all.

annsixty Wed 25-Oct-23 15:56:58

Thank you all for your good wishes.
It was very unsettling but I am ok now.
I haven’t been out since though until today.

I took a friend and neighbour out for lunch.
We have known each other since our girls were two and they are 58 now.
She had a birthday on Sunday, she caught up with me , we are both 86 now.
We went to a cafe attached to a farm shop as I felt she didn’t like pub lunches, however she told me that since her H died last December she has a small glass of wine with her meal every evening.
I was really surprised.
We had a nice time and have resolved to do it more often.

I send very best wishes to all poorlies and their carers.

It has been a beautiful sunny day here and I hope many of you have had the same.

My GD’s friend is here after work for a meal so I am off to put a chicken in the oven.
The veg were all done ahead of time as I need to pace myself now.

Have the best evening you can everyone and I think of absent posters many times and hope they all all ok and still reading.

soop Wed 25-Oct-23 16:00:44

I am delighted to find that RosiesMaw had shared a photo of her darling Rosie. We all know how painful any injury can feel when we stub a toe or bruise a finger. Animals feel pain, as we do. She was entitled to yelp. Please give Rosie a gentle pat from us lot.

Ali23 and Catterygirl. The kitchen is for kind and supportive Grans. That was my hope many years ago. Your words warmed the cockles of my heart. Thank you.

Your photo is wonderfully colourful, SueD.

Grandmabatty Your energy never ceases to amaze me. Five stars. smile

annsixty I trust that your are now recovering from the unsettling encounter with the man at the gate.
When I was about ten years of age, my pal and I were approached by a very scary man in an isolated spot. We were on a bike ride near a spinney. It was for both of us a terrifying ordeal. We never told anyone, not even our parents.

Mr Soop needs to have a scalp blitz at the local surgery. Bless him. He's such a dear man.

I'm about to rootle through my chest of drawers. The local village school collects any cast-off textiles. when the carrier arrives to collect the proceeds the textiles are weighed and the school is awarded a bonus. A very good cause.

Bye for now. Rest easy. moon smile

Blossoming Wed 25-Oct-23 16:30:39

Good evening dear Kitcheners. The sunshine has returned today and the clear sky means it’s much colder and the heating is back on. I have had a lovely walk by the river and a visit to my “sit ooterie”(pictured). MrB didn’t come with me but he knew where I was going and I took my phone so he wouldn’t worry too much. More rain on the way tomorrow so I think it’s time for yet another workroom de-clutter. That stash has a way of regrowing!

Think it will be soup and sandwich for tea. I’m a fan of lentil soup too Grandmabatty and will happily eat it every day.

Beautiful photo SueD, sounds like you’re having fun.

Sorry you’re still not home Yia and feeling poorly too on top of the disruption.

Pleased to hear from you Ann after your awful experience, glad you had a nice time with your friend.

Hello Soop, I hope MrSoop’s scalp responds to the treatment and soon heals.

Thinking of our poorlies, as always. Hugs to those caring for loved ones ❤️

Jaxjacky Wed 25-Oct-23 16:37:53

Poor Mrsoop his scalp has certainly taken a battering, I hope the latest is not too uncomfortable for him.
How very trying Yia, other descriptive words are available, hopefully tomorrow will sort it and your antibiotics start doing their stuff.
I’m pleased you went out ann a regular lunch date is a treat to look forward to.
It’s been cloudy today after rain through the night until about 10am, I’m hoping tomorrow improves I have plants to put in.
His flat keys, left near Leeds over a long weekend have been delivered and he left this morning.
I’ve had some autumnal flowers given to me by friends whose house we checked on whilst they were on holiday.

Jaxjacky Wed 25-Oct-23 16:38:51

Left out ‘our overnight guest’s ‘keys!!

Urmstongran Wed 25-Oct-23 17:31:19

Hello everyone in the kitchen. We had warm sunshine today so I took myself out for a stroll and along our (main) Road I saw this knitted topper. Isn’t it wonderful? I had to take a pic I was so impressed. It’s done by a ladies group in Urmston library. They crochet too and call themselves the ‘Happy Hookers’.
😊

Grandmabatty Wed 25-Oct-23 18:22:54

Good evening Kitcheners. Soop poor Mr. Soop. It sounds quite painful. Urms that's delightful. Sadly crochet is not one of my skills. Jaxjacky beautiful flowers. Blossoming a lovely spot to sit and contemplate. Yiayia that's vexing for you. I hope the antibiotics do the trick. Brook I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family. Is this your last visit before Christmas? Annsixty what a nice day you have had. Grannmarie I hope life is treating you well. Ditto to Neine. I'm sorry if I've missed anyone out tonight.
Today I have been to the library and borrowed three books. I've cleaned everything in sight. I spotted yoghurt splatters from dgs2 and cleaned elsewhere too. I pottered about generally and then read a book this afternoon. So it's been a quiet day but enjoyable. DD popped in to borrow my KitchenAid to make her mother in law's birthday cake. Tonight will also be peaceful and lazy. Chilli with rice for dinner soon. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

hulahoop Wed 25-Oct-23 19:29:15

It's been a strange week for us we had a leak in back bedroom which oh was able to sort it then we had several power cuts back to normal now hopefully .Sending good wishes to all.

Blossoming Wed 25-Oct-23 19:40:40

Hope everything is OK now hulahoop

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 25-Oct-23 21:47:17

Evening everyone. Oh dear Soop, I hope Mr S’s scalp treatment isn’t too distressing,
Well, I decided not to go with my friends to see Grayson Perry in Oxford. Although my energy is improving, by the evening I am exhausted and would probably fallen asleep! But I had a good day. I made batches of lemon iced cream and chocolate peppermint iced cream. It was OH’s turn to cook dinner and I listened to a talk on London’s tunnels.
Have a good evening.

Nannytopsy Wed 25-Oct-23 23:21:41

Hello! We had DGC for 24 hours until DiL came home from work. I took DGD shopping but my hip played up terribly in the middle of town. There is some arthritis there but periodically it starts giving way and is very painful. Not what I needed with shopping and a 7 year old!
The decorator is arriving at 9 am tomorrow so the alarm will be set. He is doing the kitchen so I hope he’s fairly speedy. It’s the first time we have used him.
Good luck to MrS with his head. This happens quite frequently doesn’t it soop?

brook2704 Thu 26-Oct-23 08:33:33

Just popping into the kitchen early today as I had a busy day yesterday and didn’t get chance to see you all!
A guided bus is like any other bus SueD I think they’re mostly electric but they have like a separate roadway that’s not open to other vehicles or bikes etc. Halloween is such a big thing over there isn’t it, they really know how to decorate 🎃 Enjoy special every minute with your family
It was a good journey and I arrived before lunchtime. We had a lovely afternoon at the local country park and the autumn colours were lovely. Today the grown ups are working so I’d planned a day out with the DGSs but the youngest has been sick a few times in the night so we’re staying in having a quiet day instead.
I’ve another trip planned at the end of November grandmabatty for DGS1 9th birthday, and then a quick trip the week before Christmas too.
Lovely pic Urms such clever crafting people!
I’ll pop back later and try to catch up on all your news
