Irritating email from Santander

We've both had emails from Santander saying they want to thank us for our loyalty. Oh good I thought, gift voucher possibly. But no, they just want to thank us. Then they asked how useful this email was. You can probably guess what I said

I've been with Santander since 1979 when they were Girobank then Alliance and Leicester then Santander.

Yes me too from the Girobank days....so a lot of loyalty. Would like a gift card at least. Not just a thank you!!!

I was also looking forward to an unexpected reward for my loyalty…I have only been with them for seven years!

I think they bought out Abbey National

I feel insulted, I am obviously not a valued customer.

Happygirl79 Wed 11-Oct-23 14:11:59

It seems to me that every organisation wants praise for simply doing their job these days. Madness.

Maggiemaybe Wed 11-Oct-23 14:18:22

Me neither! We’ve been with them since the Girobank stage and I didn’t even get the email. grin

Beckett Wed 11-Oct-23 14:20:26

I have been with them since they were Abbey - I haven't received a thank you!!!!

I had that email a couple of months ago, seemed pointless to be honest.

I ditched Santander, found them to be the least efficient of banks I invested with.

Is a thank you not enough?
Loyalty is often rewarded by a hike in charges - utility companies, car insurance spring to mind.
I didn't get the email either but I'm pleased that the interest rates on my savings account are going up a bit at last.

I must say that Santander have been very good when my account was hacked/scammed. The money taken by these evil people was put back into my account straight away they also phoned me and wrote to me.

They might just be checking you are still at the same address . Or indeed still alive.

I have been with Abbey National/Santander for 40+ years and also had that email. I thought exactly the same as you, so I deleted it into the email bin where it deserved to be! What a waste of time and money confused

Ailsa43 Thu 12-Oct-23 14:53:47

Not Santander, but Halifax.. I've been with them for close to 40 years.. never had anything in the way of a small token for loyalty

jenpax Thu 12-Oct-23 15:02:20

I have been a customer since 1999 and have not even received a thank you let alone a gift card 😂

vickymeldrew Thu 12-Oct-23 15:09:02

Poor old Santander - damned if they do and damned if they don’t. It’s just a way of showing that they appreciate your custom.
Often shops have a sign up saying ‘thank you for your custom or airlines say ‘we appreciate you have chosen us’.
Why the high horse ?

Cagsy Thu 12-Oct-23 15:16:53

Seems a lot of us have been with them since the Giro days. I had that email too - I actually thought it was a nice touch, easy enough to do for sure but still someone thought of it.

Just wondering if the lovely gransneters can help. I've got a large fibroid and probably need a hysterectomy. I'm 65 and type 1 diabetic and therefore worried about major surgery xx

Sorry to blot my copybook but I changed banks from Santander when they began having Ant and Dec on tv telling us that what customers really wanted was teenie weenie pens in the banks-No - what customers want is good interest rates and fab friendly service.I like Ant and Dec but find their adverts condescending.

Think you need to start a new thread. X

I was originally with Abbey National and when it became Santander l was given shares. This is the only reason l stay with them to get the (somewhat small) dividend. They are not the best bank !! And l didn't get a thankyou email even though l have probably been with them for over 50 years !!
